My daughter is suffering from chronic tonsillitis for a long time now. We did allopathic and homeopathic treatments but she only got temporary relief. Now she has developed cavities in the tonsils in which food particles got stuck. We want to get the tonsils removed by surgery. Since she is in UK and will have to travel to India for this purpose, I want to know how long it will take her to recover and go back to UK? How many days prior to the surgery she is required to be here in Delhi. Thanking you.

No, that is not a permanent solution. The only permanent solution is immunotherapy. Please search for an Allergist in your city to help you out. Apps like Lybrate should help you find a good Allergist in your city.

Nasal Reconstruction Surgery - Types And Symptoms

Nasal Reconstruction Surgery - Types And Symptoms

A Nasal reconstruction surgery is required to correct deformities in the nasal area formed as a result of birth defects, injuries, trauma etc. It is also used to correct missing parts of the nasal anatomy if required. Recent developments in techniques such as microsurgery, expansion of the tissue and so on, have helped surgeons improve the methods of nasal reconstruction surgery to a great extent. At this point, a patient has a great number of reconstruction methods to choose from, depending on his/her particular case.

Types of Nasal Reconstruction Surgery:

  1. Local flaps
  2. Regional flaps
  3. Secondary Intention Healing
  4. Simple Suture closure
  5. Skin grafts
  6. One stage nasolabial flap
  7. Two stage nasolabial flap
  8. Forehead flap
  9. Bone and Cartilage frame work reconstruction

Indicators of the need for Nasal Reconstruction surgery

  1. One indicator of the need for this type of surgery is fractures in the nose that have changed the shape of the organ. Patients opt for this kind of surgery in order to improve their overall appearance.
  2. Another indicator is fractures or other deformities that lead to breathing problems. Living with such problems is difficult; hence it is important to get nasal reconstruction surgery.
  3. The presence of the Deviated Nasal Septum prevents proper breathing and increases vulnerability to ENT infections. Nasal reconstruction surgery can be used to fix this problem.
  4. Deformities formed as a result of treatment of skin cancer can be fixed with the help of nasal reconstruction surgery.

Things to know about recovering from Nasal Reconstruction Surgery

  1. Medication taken orally can help to counter the discomfort experienced right after a nasal reconstruction surgery.
  2. Usually, splints are used inside the nose during the surgery. These are generally removed within a week.
  3. Patients are able to get up and walk about within a few days. Normal daily activities may be resumed upon the doctor's instructions.
  4. At times, a swelling may be observed in the nasal area, but this goes away within a few weeks. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a cosmetic surgeon.

I am 26 years female and I have earlier about an year ago Sinus and tonsils problem. Had treatment and Yoga pranayamas at home and is cured for the time being. Consulted doctor repeatedly but haven't find any improvement. Recent about 2 weeks ago changed to another ENT Specialist and had CT Scan. The results said by Dr. are there is no sinus but as the bone which joins with nose iss crossed thus the pressure is applied to side nerves causing pain as migraine and on cheeks. Dr. informed as to go with medicines first if not for surgery for long last relief. Also I have Thyroid for the past 8 years and is now about 1.97 IU/ml and using 100mg from 3 months. Had second opinion too and said same thing to wait for few days. Problem here is when climate changes, I cannot breathe freely, have nose blocks at nights. And the problem will be solved till I use medicine or exercise, again it repeats same. Doest I really need to go for surgery or else I can be cured with medicine? And if the bone is crossed the pain has to appear at one side, but I have pain at cheeks, nose, above eyes and forehead. Please help me out. Thank you.

Yoga, pranayama has cured you once, why do you consult so many specialists and get confused about surgery. I agree with your second doctor that you should wait for few days before you go for surgery. Ct report is bones are overlapping and touching the nerves, causing migraine! wait & watch, there are good medicines for migraine also, carry on with yoga, pranayam + medicines which are safe. Surgery should be last option in your case.
