Please repeat a urine pregnancy test if you do not get your periods in another two weeks. If still negative then take progesterone tablets to induce a bleed.

I am in 18th month of pregnancy.. From when will I start feeling movements of my baby.

M.B.S.(HOMEO), MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Visakhapatnam
I am in 18th month of pregnancy.. From when will I start feeling movements of my baby.
Count your baby's movements once a day, at the same time each day: Lie on your left side and focus on your baby's movements: rolls, kicks or flutters. Use the chart below to record the number of minutes it takes to feel your baby move ten (10) times. You may stop counting after your baby has moved ten (10) times. 16 weeks to 19 weeks You’ll probably notice faint and fluttery feelings in your tummy at around 18 weeks. If this is your first pregnancy, it may take a bit longer before you realise that those gentle bubbling sensations are actually your baby moving about! If you’ve been pregnant before, you may notice your baby’s movements even earlier, at around 16 weeks. 20 weeks to 23 weeks You may notice gentle kicks, or repetitive jerking movements when your baby gets hiccups. As the weeks go by, your baby's activity will gradually increase and become stronger. You may find that your baby becomes more lively as the day goes on, kicking, squirming and somersaulting the most in the evening when you're relaxed. Another top time for movements is just before or at mealtimes. Over time, you'll come to recognise your baby's unique pattern of activity. 24 weeks to 28 weeks The amniotic sac now contains up to 750 ml (26fl oz) of fluid. This gives your baby plenty of space to move around freely, so you may notice frequent movements and feel that your baby is very active. Limb movements may feel punchy, while whole-body movements may be smoother. You may even notice him jumping at sudden noises!

Precaution is avoid intercourse, avoid jerking, avoid vaginal drugs. Take rest. And if you notice, even small amount of bleeding, don't ignore it. There is no urgent medicine- urgent medicine is emergency hospitalization.Take care

Laparoscopy - How it is Beneficial?

MBBS, M.S( Gynaecology)
Gynaecologist, Surat
Laparoscopy - How it is Beneficial?

Diagnostic laparoscopy is a surgical process for examining different kinds of organs present in the abdomen. It is a low-risk and minimally invasive process in which just a small incision is made. This allows the doctor to evaluate the conditions of your abdominal organs without opting for an open surgery. It’s mostly performed when the patient complains of pain in the pelvic region and when other assessing methods have failed to detect the reason behind the pain and discomfort.

How is laparoscopy done?
The laparoscope is a slim and well-lit telescope that allows your doctor to evaluate the conditions of various organs in your body. It can help in determining whether there is any instance of fibroid or endometriosis. It can help in performing a variety of surgeries like removal of ovarian cysts, hysterectomy and tubal ligation. This surgery involves much lesser healing time compared to other elaborate surgeries.

Why should you go for laparoscopy?
Your gynaecologist may recommend you to get a laparoscopy for a treatment or for diagnosis. It is mostly performed due to unexplained pelvic ache, infertility and a history of pelvic infection. Laparoscopy is also performed for the diagnosis of conditions such as uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, pelvic pus or abscess, ectopic pregnancy, painful scar, inflammatory disease in the pelvic region and reproductive cancers.

How to prepare for gynaecological laparoscopy?
Your gynaecologist would ask you to prepare for the laparoscopy test on the basis of the type of surgery. Your doctor would ask you about the medication you take, which would include health supplements and over-the-counter medications and in certain cases you may have to stop certain medications. This process is performed under anaesthesia and you would be able to go home on the same day. The following process depends on the type of process. The diagnosis process is completed faster than the surgical process in which an incision is required to be made. The instrument would be inserted through the incision and then the surgery is executed by inserting the laparoscope tool. Once the process is completed, all the tools are removed from the body and the incision would be closed with stitches and the affected area would be bandaged.

In recent times, the laparoscopic process has advanced to a great extent and robotic surgery is often used for performing the surgical process. This is because it has been proven that robotic hands are steadier than human hands and can perform fine manipulations effortlessly. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist and ask a free question.

It can be due to Hormonal imbalance. The following lifestyle factors can also upset your balance of hormones and cause irregular bleeding: • extreme weight loss or weight gain • excessive exercise • stress Contraceptives An intrauterine system (IUS) or contraceptive pill may cause spotting between periods. An intrauterine device (IUD) doesn't cause irregular periods, but can cause heavy bleeding or painful bleeding. Small bleeds, known as breakthrough bleeds, are common when the contraceptive pill is first used. They're usually lighter and shorter than normal periods, and usually stop within the first few months. Polycystic ovary syndrome Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) occurs when very small cysts (small, fluid-filled sacs) develop in the ovaries. The usual symptoms of PCOS are irregular or light periods or no periods at all. This is because, in women with PCOS, ovulation (the release of an egg) may not take place as often as normal. The production of hormones may also be unbalanced, and you could have higher levels of testosterone than normal. Testosterone is a male hormone that women usually have a small amount of. Gynaecological problems Irregular bleeding can also be caused by an unsuspected pregnancy, early miscarriage, or problems with the womb or ovaries. Your Doctor may refer you to a gynaecologist (a specialist in conditions of the female reproductive system) if further investigation and treatment is needed. Thyroid disorders A thyroid disorder is another possible, but rare, cause of irregular periods. The thyroid gland, found in the neck, produces hormones that maintain the body's metabolism (the chemical processes your body uses to turn food into energy). Your GP may test for a thyroid problem by taking a blood test to check levels of thyroid hormones in your blood. Ruling out pregnancy If you have irregular periods, your doctor may recommend a pregnancy test and ultrasound scan to rule out a possible pregnancy, particularly if you're in pain (which could mean you're having an ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage).

Dear user. FERTILE PHASE is the phase of a female's menstrual cycle when an egg (ovule) is released from the ovaries. In humans, ovulation occurs about midway through the menstrual cycle, after the follicular phase. The few days surrounding ovulation (from approximately days 10 to 18 of a 28 day cycle), constitute the most fertile phase. So if you have ejaculatory sexual inter course from day 10 from the first day of period and to day 20, the chances of pregnancy are much more. You must also understand that there are many other factors which determines the pregnancy. Take care.

Many women experience acne during pregnancy. It's most common during the first and second trimesters. An increase in hormones called androgens can cause the glands in your skin to grow and produce more sebum, an oily, waxy substance. This oil can clog pores and lead to bacteria, inflammation, and breakouts.

Infertility - Understanding the Reasons Behind it!

Female infertility is not really a rare condition, it happens to one out of six couples. Infertility is a condition in which a woman is unable to conceive despite efforts. There can be a number of causes for female infertility, including problems with ovulation, uterus, fallopian tubes or ovaries. Age can also be a contributing factor to infertility. Following are the reasons that might be responsible for female infertility

  1. Ovulatory problems
    • Cysts in the ovaries
    • Hormonal imbalance
    • Excessive alcohol or drug usage
    • Eating disorders like bulimia or anorexia
    • Excessive weight
    • Enormous stress and pressure
    • Thyroid gland issues
    • Very brief menstrual cycles
  2. Damage of organs of reproductive system
  3. Pelvic inflammatory disease
  4. Scar tissues or adhesions of some sort
  5. Presence of polyps in the uterus
  6. A previous serious infection in the fallopian tubes or uterus
  7. Chronic medical illness relating to the reproductive system
  8. A previous ectopic pregnancy
  9. A birth defect in the uterus or fallopian tube
  10. The DES syndrome where in the infertility can occur to the offspring due to the medication DES is given to a mother in order to prevent miscarriage or premature of the child.
  11. Abnormal presence of cervical mucus can make it more difficult for sperms to reach the egg.

Treatment
Now that the part about the causes has been discussed, it is essential to discuss the treatment. Are there really ways to reverse infertility in women to make them fertile? Well, in some chronic cases it is not possible; however, some are treatable by the following methods:

  • In the case of hormone imbalance or endometriosis or short menstrual cycles, hormones are taken to treat the problems.
  • Medications can be taken to stimulate ovulations.
  • Fertility enhancing supplements can be used.
  • In case of infection in any of the reproductive parts, antibiotics can be taken to remove them
  • In order to remove blockage or scar tissues from the uterus, fallopian tube or pelvic area, minor surgeries can be performed.

Prevention
Yes, there are some tips for prevention of infertility

  • Taking all the steps required to avoid sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Avoid intake of illicit drugs
  • Having regular checkups with the gynaecologist
  • Maintaining a healthy lifestyle
  • Exercising regularly
  • Having a healthy sexual relationship

This article is a short walkthrough on female infertility and answers most of the commonly asked questions. In case you have further questions, you can always consult a medical practitioner near you.

I AM IN FIRST TRIMESTER, IS IT OK TO EAT CHICKEN, CURRY, BRINJAL, WET ALMOND. IS THESE FOOD SAFE FOR BABY. When my first ultrasound be done. Its my second baby I conceive this 5 year after my first baby. My first baby is from c-section. Is it possible that I delivered this baby through normal delivery.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Gurgaon
Hi lybrate-user. The food you mentioned are not only safe but actually good for the baby specially almonds and chicken. Usually first ultrasound should be done between 5-8 weeks of pregnancy. Whereas delivery is concerned at its been a gap of 5 years from your last delivery you can opt for normal delivery. Minimum is 3 years is recommended if you want a vaginal delivery. However there are risks involved in a vaginal birth after c section. I would personally not recommend to try for a vaginal birth.
