Myth about CERVICAL pain

Much like Myths about Back Pain, there are many misconceptions about neck pain and the spine in general. Seeking credible information is essential to having the best chances for recovery. In that spirit, we at Spine-health wish to clarify a few of the common myths about neck pain.

Myth: Rest Is the Best Way to Help My Neck Pain

Reality: A short period of bed rest may help reduce acute pain of the neck or back, but doctors generally advise against more than one or two days of bed rest. In fact, resting and general inactivity can actually cause more pain, as lack of activity leads to muscle wasting and other harmful effects, which in turn can create more back pain or neck pain and lead to an unhealthy cycle of pain/inactivity/more pain/more inactivity. For most conditions, physicians will recommend a long-term rehabilitation program of active physical therapy and exercise. For more information, see the following article:

Myth: With Its Sensitive Nerves, the Spine Is Easily Injured

Reality: The spine is a uniquely well-designed structure -- the surrounding muscles, tendons and ligaments provide a great deal of strength, flexibility and support for the spine. While there are some exceptions (such as an unstable spinal fracture), in general keeping your spine healthy requires proper conditioning, including stretching, strengthening and aerobic exercise. Activities that can harm the spine include poor posture and body mechanics (e.g. improper lifting technique), and other generally unhealthy factors, such as smoking, lack of nutrition or sleep

Myth: The Doctor Didn't Find Anything Wrong, so the Pain Must Be All in My Head

Reality: Pain is always real. The physician may not be able to find the anatomical cause of the pain, but the pain still exists. And for chronic pain (e.g. pain that lasts more than 2 or 3 months), it's important to proactively treat the pain. While psychological factors (such as depression and sleeplessness) will often need to be included as part of a comprehensive treatment program, it is also important to search out nonsurgical care treatment options that can help alleviate the pain.

Myth: My Pain Is So Bad, There Must Be Ongoing Spine Damage

Reality: With chronic pain, the level and extent of pain is not related to the level and extent of damage or injury in your neck or back. For example, severely degenerated discs may not produce much pain at all, and discs with little degeneration can produce severe pain.

Unlike chronic (long-term) pain, acute (short-lived) pain does correlate to the level of the injury. For example, a deep cut in your skin is more painful and more damaging than a bruise, and the pain will subside as it heals. In this manner, acute pain provides us with a protective reflex -- so that we avoid things that cause tissue damage (e.g. we remove our hand from a hot burner). However, with chronic pain, the pain does not have the same meaning -- it is not protective and does not mean there is any ongoing tissue damage or injury.

Dealing with ongoing back pain or neck pain is a long-term avocation. The last thing you need is incorrect or misleading information to confuse the situation. Hello, Take Schwabe’s Alpha-CF and Biocombination-11, both after every 2 hourly for 4 days. Use Bakson's Nasal-Aid spray/ 1-2 sprays after every 4hours. Hello, kindly follow health advices given below: measure your temperature and tell me reading 1. Avoid exertion 2. Take Tablet Paracetamol 500 mg after food as and when required for fever more than 99 F (maximum 3 tablets with gap of 8 hr can be taken in a day) for 3 days 3. Lot of fluids to be taken 4. Take proper diet homemade food like moong dal Dalia, chapatti etc. 4. Avoid wearing synthetic and tight cloths. 5. Do Steam inhalation carefully by steam inhaler twice a day for 2-3 days, Kindly go for CBC test and consult physician for further management and let me know what medicines you were taking and also tell me if you are having other symptoms like cough/ throat pain/ burning urine/ stomach pain so that we can confirm cause of fever

Hello, as you are giving history of fall from height, kindly tell me you are having any symptom like vomiting/ headache/ any Bleeding episode also? Neck Pain may be due to ant strain due to fall You can take Tablet Paracetamol 500 mg after food as and when required for Neck pain more than 99 f (maximum 3 tablets with gap of 8 hr can be taken in a day) for 3 days you need to consult orthopedician for further evaluation

I am 37 years old. Height 6 feet. Weight 78 kg. I feel pain in my foot in the morning. It gets okay within 30 minutes or so. I also have a feeling that it pains more when I had intercourse at night. My sugar level and bp level are normal. What should I do?

Your foot is made up of 26 bones, 33 joints, and more than 100 tendons. Foot pain has a number of causes that are typically associated with overuse of the bones. You can strain your foot by pounding it on hard surfaces, being overweight, or wearing shoes that do not fit properly. These strains can irritate the foot bones, muscles, or tendons. Rest as much as possible apply ice to the affected part for 10 to 15 minutes twice a day use over-the-counter pain medications. Wear shoes that fit properly wear night splints, a special device that stretches the foot while you sleep use heel cups or shoe inserts to reduce pain. Take an x-ray to determine the cause of your pain, requires detailed questioning so as to ascertain your personality and to treat you symptomatically. Hello dear in case you have body pain, first all the physical possibilities or causes should be ruled out by undergoing certain basic investigations and taking up the medications accordingly apart from putting ointments. In case there is no relief, psychological possibilities may be considered and treated accordingly as psychological issues also may give rise to such kind of bodily pain.

What is the severity of pain? is the pain continous or intermittent? is it pulsating? since pain is a complex phenomenon, there are many treatment options medications, therapies, and mind-body techniques. Apart from pain killers, there is evidence that certain dietary supplements and vitamins can help with certain types of pain. Fish oil is often used to reduce pain associated with swelling. A therapeutic diet complemented with few medications for pain management can also work wonders.
