Quad Clenches: Lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, Hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short Arcs: Lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight Leg Raise: Lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

I am 65 years old with controlled bp by taking mild doses of medicine but for last one yr, have been suffering from knee-pains more on left while climbing stairs up or down. Walking 45 monts at dawn-time plus yoga n knee-pain exercise except sunday (rest day. Six months back had taken homeo mediclne like clmlclfuga, guaiacum. Now putting finger- pressure at back of knee-joint for last 15 days. At present pains are little less. Can you prescribe best knee-pain exercises and yoga. Not interested in any type of medicine

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. I am an orthopaedic surgeon, so it will be best for a good physical therapist to answer your question but you will have to visit personally to actually learn them initially, but main focus is on quadriceps and hamstring exercises, general rule is to avoid high impact exercises because they may worsen your symptoms and concentrate on daily brisk walks for 2-3 km in a day. Control your bp first, it should be in one level, for back pain use hard bed & flat pillow get one x ray done of your spine, sit in hard chair with back rest in 90 degree with the base.

It can b due to lack of vitamin D in your body. secondly, due to lack of physical activity. Due to which muscles become stiff and u feel heaviness. Thank you.
