Dear Lybrateuser, - At your age chest pain could be due to acidity, anxiety or sedentary habit - avoid spicy, fried & junk food, have more of fruits & vegetables, chew your food well, do not skip meals, have meals on time, avoid more than 1-2 cups of tea, coffee in a day, have dinner 2-3 hrs before bed time - have 7-8 glasses of water for proper digestion - avoid alcohol, tobacco, aerated drinks if you take - do regular exercise like walking, jogging, also do yoga & deep breathing exercise for 10-15 min in the morning, it will relax your mind & keep your body fit - take syrup Gelusil, 2 teaspoonful half an hour after every meal three times a day.

Bananas are best for heart yes they are a rich source of potassium and you can eat ad many as you like. There will be no extra potassium which will harm the heart. Yes potassium taken as medicine does cause harmful side effects. Don't bother about extra calories also because it is giving you other essential vitamins and minerals too. Cut down other calories which are either empty calories like excess sugar or just basic calories like chapattis.

Hi, I'm 4 months pregnant, I am having headache everyday from last week. Which make me uncomfortable. Please give me ...
Hello- headaches are triggered by the hormonal changes that are happening in your body. They're very common in early pregnancy. The hormone progesterone helps to relax your womb (uterus) and blood vessels in your body, including those in your head and neck. Blood then pounds through these veins, causing headaches. Try these tips to avoid headache during pregnancy- 1. Rest and relaxation get plenty of rest and maybe take time off work, if you can. Get an early night every now and then. 2. Eating well try to eat a healthy diet. Have a wide variety of unprocessed foods of all types and colours to make sure you're getting a good balance of nutrients. 3. Posture make sure the position of your chair, computer screen and car seat encourage good posture.

Hello dear High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. Dear lybtateuser, - There is a ECG change which the report mentions as an early change, it may not be very significant unless you have signs & symptoms of any heart problem - you have to reduce your weight by dieting & regular exercise - have more of fruits & vegetables that is more of fibre containing foods, spinach, beans, legumes, nuts - avoid fried, processed, sugary, salty foods - do aerobic exercise like brisk walking, jogging, swimming for 30-40 min, do moderate weight lifting to boost your metabolism, try to include yoga, meditation & deep breathing for 10-15 min daily in the morning - monitor your BP, blood sugar, cholesterol, thyroid hormone level & weight regularly destress yourself by proper sleep for 7-8 hrs at night, reading, listening to music, follow a hobby.

May be it is due to smoking. Especially if it is aggravated by deep breathing. Cigarette smoke is very notorious in causing inflammation in the lungs which can in turn lead to chest pains. Also, cigarette smokers have more acidity than non smokers.

Dear lybrateuser, - The medicine is used to prevent clotting or as a blood thinner, it could be used as a precautionary measure to avoid blood clotting if your investigations indicate - a normal angiography does not show the blood state, it indicates the state of the blood vessels - consult your doctor for further explanation as he would know the complete picture & hence the requirement.

Causes and Symptoms of Heart Valve Disease

Fellowship in Electrophysiology, Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology, DM - Cardiology, MD - Medicine, MBBS
Cardiologist, Delhi
Causes and Symptoms of Heart Valve Disease

Complications in the heart valve occur when the functioning of the heart valve is impaired. Valves of the heart allow the blood to flow in one direction and prevent the blood from flowing back into the ventricles of the heart.

Heart valve diseases can be classified as follows:

  1. Valvular stenosis: This condition occurs when the valves of the heart does not open completely due to stiffness. As the opening is narrow, the heart has to work hard to pump blood. This condition may lead to heart failure.
  2. Valvular insufficiency: This is a condition where the valve does not close tightly. This causes some of the blood to flow back to the valve. As this condition deteriorates, the heart has to work harder to pump blood.

Types and Causes of valve diseases:

  1. Acquired valve disease: The structure of the valve changes due to various infections or rheumatic fever. Rheumatic fever is caused by bacterial infection that had not been treated. It tends to occur in children and cause inflammation of the valve.
  2. Congenital valve disease: This condition usually affects the pulmonary valve where the size of the valve is abnormal.
  3. Bicuspid aortic valve disease: It is a type of valve disease that impairs the aortic valve. Instead of the regular three cusps, the bicuspid valve only has two. This may cause the valve to be stiff or cause it to leak.
  4. Mitral valve prolapse: This condition causes the valve to flop back when the heart contracts. This condition also causes the leaflets of the valve to turn irregularly and cause it to stretch. This condition causes the valve to leak.

SymptomsThe symptoms of valve diseases are as follows:

  1. Weakness: This condition may cause weakness and cause severe discomfort while performing daily activities.
  2. Palpitations: Symptoms such as irregular heartbeats, skipped beats and rapid heart rhythm occurs in this condition.
  3. Rapid weight gain: This condition can cause you to gain weight very rapidly.
  4. It may cause swelling in your ankles, abdomen and feet.
  5. This condition causes shortness of breath.
