Sex during pregnancy is considered safe unless you are asked by your gynecologist to avoid sex completely due to some or the other unavoidable reasons. Sex with or without condoms has no effect on ongoing pregnancy.

Menstrual Pain Relief Offered Through Endometrial Ablation

Menstrual Pain Relief Offered Through Endometrial Ablation

Slight discomfort and pain is normally associated with every woman's monthly menstrual cycle. However, for some women, this discomfort can restrict their normal activities and put them in a lot of pain. This is often accompanied by heavy menstrual bleeding. Medication is usually the first line of treatment for heavy periods, but if this is not effective surgical options may need to be looked at. Amongst the surgical ways to deal with painful menstruation and heavy bleeding is a procedure known as endometrial ablation.

Endometrial ablation is a surgical procedure that removes the lining of the uterus or endometrium. The procedure is usually performed under spinal or local anesthesia and takes less than a hour. In some cases, the patient may need to go under general anesthesia. This surgery is often performed as an outpatient procedure. This can be performed in a number of ways. Some of the common forms of endometrial ablation are:

  1. Laser ablation
  2. Heat ablation using either heated saline or radio frequency
  3. Electric removal of uterine lining
  4. Freezing
  5. Microwave removal

Though the procedure is performed as an outpatient procedure, it can take up to 2 weeks for complete recovery. The woman may notice watery discharge for a day or two accompanied by cramps and nausea. However, after such a procedure, most women do not have a period for the next few months. While this may stop menstrual bleeding completely for older women, younger women should see reduced menstrual bleeding, but may also need a repeat procedure later.

Though many women can conceive after such a procedure, endometrial ablation is usually not recommended for women who intend on having children later. It is usually suggested as an alternative to a hysterectomy. It is also not recommended to women who have a high risk of developing endometrial cancer. An endometrial ablation can be performed if the woman suffers from minor fibroids, but is avoidable if the woman suffers from large fibroids. A vaginal or pelvic infection of any kind will also prevent a woman from undergoing this procedure.

Like any other procedure, this one is associated with a number of certain risks as well, such as

  1. Infection and bleeding
  2. Rupturing the uterine wall or bowel walls
  3. Excessive fluid in the bloodstream

Thus in order to reduce the risks associated, utmost care must be taken, both by doctor and patient and in case of any bleeding that lasts longer than two days should be immediately brought to your doctor's notice.

Improve your Digestion -

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is often used to kick start a slow stomach. Though acidic in nature, it also has an alkalizing effect that helps settle indigestion.

Add one tablespoon of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar to a cup of water.Mix in one teaspoon of raw honey.Drink this solution two to three times a day for quick relief.

2. Fennel Seeds

Fennel seeds can be really helpful for indigestion caused by very spicy or fatty food. Fennel seeds contain volatile oils that can help reduce nausea and control flatulence.

Dry roast, grind, and sieve fennel seeds. Take half a teaspoon of this powder along with water. Follow this remedy twice daily.Alternatively, you can drink fennel tea, made by steeping two teaspoons of crushed fennel seeds in a cup of hot water.Another option is to simply chew a spoonful of fennel seeds for symptom relief.

3. Ginger

Ginger stimulates digestive juices and the flow of enzymes that help you digest your food. This makes ginger an effective remedy for indigestion, especially when it is caused by overeating.

In fact, as a preventive measure, you can sprinkle salt on some fresh ginger slices and chew it thoroughly after eating a heavy meal.

Take two teaspoons of ginger juice, one teaspoon of lemon juice, and a pinch of table salt and black salt. Mix the ingredients thoroughly and consume it with or without water, whatever suits you.Another option is to add two teaspoons of ginger juice and one teaspoon of honey to a cup of warm water and drink it.You can also drink homemade ginger tea to get relief from bloating, cramps, gas and stomach aches. To make ginger tea, boil one teaspoon of grated ginger in a cup of  water for 5 to 10 minutes.Adding ginger as a spice in your recipes can also help if you are suffering from indigestion.

4. Baking Soda

Indigestion often happens due to high levels of stomach acids. Baking soda is one of the most simple and effective treatments for this problem because it acts like an antacid.

Stir one-half teaspoon of baking soda into half a glass of water. Drink this solution to neutralize the acid in your stomach and give your relief from bloating.

5. Carom Seeds

Carom seeds, also known as Bishop’s weed or ajwain, have digestive and carminative properties that help treat indigestion, flatulence and diarrhea.

Grind together some carom seeds and dried ginger into a fine powder. Add one teaspoon of this powder and a little black pepper to a cup of warm water and drink it. Do this once or twice a day.Simply eating one-half teaspoon of carom seeds can also provide relief from indigestion.

6. Herbal Tea

Drinking herbal tea after eating a heavy meal can greatly reduce indigestion. Dip your favorite herbal tea bag into a hot cup of water and cover it for five minutes. Drink it while it is still warm.

Peppermint tea and chamomile tea, in particular, help calm your stomach and relieve digestive problems.

I had unprotected sex on the last day of my period. Then for precaution sake I took an emergency contraceptive pill (Ipill) I've never taken it before. Today morning i.e. A week after I took the pill, there was a brown discharge from my body and slight abdominal pain. Is it normal? What can be the reason? Is it the side effect of the pill? or sign of pregnancy

I had unprotected sex on the last day of my period. Then for precaution sake I took an emergency contraceptive pill (...
Most likely it is a side effect of the pill. Do not worry. There is absolutely no chance of pregnancy. For sexually active people, it is essential to know about the basics of periods and pregnancy. That way you can avoid unnecessary stress and anxiety. If you like you can contact me for further information.

Occasional irregularity in periods is not a reason for you not to conceive you try for the baby for atleast one year and if you don't conceive then consult a gynaecologist and get investigated.
