Your father's condition can be classified as pre diabetes also known as impaired glucose tolerance. He is at increased risk of developing frank diabetes. So for now life style modifications like low sugar and fat diet, daily 30-40 minute brisk exercise etc along with blood sugar check up at least every 6 months is recommended. If sugar level does not come down to normal range, prophylactic metformin regimen would be considered. Thank you.

Hi, Protein powders are suggestive only when you are doing stength/ weght training and through diet it is not possible for you to achieve you protein requirents targets. I am 64 years old. I have calcium, b-22 and d-3 deficiencies. I have no gall bladder. Any supplement s irritate my stomach. My nerves are weak. My bones are weak. What should I do?

In your case for strengthening bones without disturbing the stomach, you should go for tikta ksheer basti (medicated enema) at some panchakarma centre. That would be the best option.

lybrate-user, it is good that you want to increase your height. After the puberty the speed of growth hormones become fast. That's why your physical activity as well as diet will help to cause overall growth. Do exercise like suryanamaskar, sarvangasana, shirshasana this are very important to do daily. Also do pranayam for atleast 15 min. It will also relax mind and increase the growth hormone. And within 2 months uwant to increase the height that means you are challenging to nature. Rithik slowly and steadily whatever is thier always wins. So don't b in hurry. Some medicine are also there if you want you just tell me.

Today we will talk on lifestyle disorders and how we can handle it with Ayurveda. Our lifestyle has taken a lot of toll on our health giving rise to many diseases like diabetes, hypertension, obesity and also depression. So how can we make changes in our lifestyle to handle it. It is very simple.

  • We need to incorporate more walk in our daily life, eat less or eat in a smaller plate.
  • We need to include diet like seasonal vegetables and  fruits, have whole meals, have whole grains in your meals.
  • Let's incorporate yoga and pranayama.
  • Try to take maximum walk during the day.
  • Take the stairs in case if you are going to your office or your home.
  • Meditation plays imporatnat role in the improvement but sounds difficult. It's very difficult to meditate if you just start on your own but Ayurveda has a way to do it. It helps you through shirodhara. A stream of warm oil flows on to the center of the forehead. It's also known as a third eye. This stimulates the pituitary gland and gives you a very blissful experience. You should experience it in order to understand.
  • There are few medications available to help you in your weight loss. Medicines like Garcinia, Gogol, triphala, Nishod etc also help in losing weight and also helps in removing toxins from the body.
  • Last but not the least you need to grab good amount of sleep. A minimum of six to eight hours of sleep is essential for a sound health.Friends don't forget, you need not sleep during day time as it is totally contraindicated in Ayurveda. Hello, The best timing is to drink it about 1 hour after a meal, because green tea can hurt iron absorption while your food is being digested in the first our after your meal. Besides timing after meals, you can drink green tea any time, except: in the evening if you are sensitive to caffeine (though it's significantly less than coffee). on a really empty stomach

Add 1spoon honey and chawanprash in morning and evening and have 2 cups of milk wth almonds kishmish banana in morning and evening. Avoid fry spicy junk food and aerated drinks and do 30mints of exercise in the day avoid excess salt and spices. Do deep breathing 5times inhale exhale from left nostril than same from right nostril.

There are many kinds of food items that can do us a world of good. But there are certain man made food items that are synthetic in nature, and have more demerits than merits when it comes to our health. There is a long standing debate on the merits of various beverages, including soft drinks and alcohol.

Which one is the healthier choice?

To begin with, we cannot avoid a good beverage during social interactions, so we would do well to make a healthier choice. Here are the details about the healthier choice between alcohol and soft drinks.

  1. Kilo calories: It is a well-known fact that both alcohol and soft drinks have plenty of kilo calories with one cola containing over 1000 kilojoules as they are known. Yet, as per this parameter, it would be a healthier choice if you were to choose soft drinks because even though they both have the same amount of calories, one tends to drink soft drinks at a slower pace, which means that you consume less of it. Once you start enjoying an alcoholic drink, you tend to take more of them and much faster. Also, alcohol makes you hungry, which implies that you start reaching out for various kinds of snacks and other unhealthy food. In such cases, you will tend to gain weight much faster if you choose alcohol every time. This will not really be the case when you choose soft drinks.
  2. Toxins: The way alcohol is brewed ensures that it carries a whole lot of toxins, which are not good for your liver and heart in the long run. These toxins can easily clog your arteries and create complications for the functioning of the liver as well.
  3. Glycemic index: This is the count that is accorded to the level of insulin resistance in one’s drink of choice. For alcohol, the glycemic resistance is much higher, which means that you have better insulin resistance as compared to other soft drinks, which are high in sugar content. Therefore, it makes alcohol a highly unhealthy choice, which can also result in diabetes in the long run, if one ingests too much of it.
  4. Nutrition: From the nutrition point of view, cola and other soft drinks have absolutely no nutritional value because processed sugar is one of the main components. This will give rise to the toxin influx in the body and bring down the insulin resistance, which makes you susceptible to diseases like diabetes. Therefore, it would be healthier to have a beer rather than a cola because it has a small amount of protein due to the ingredients used when it is brewed for consumption. It also has some amount of antioxidants and potassium. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a General Physician.

Kidney normally flush out the toxins in our body and filter the blood and form urine and if there is problem with the kidney function than blood is not filtered and there is overload of the heart which causes water retention and which leads to accumulation of the water inside our body including lungs.

To achieve weightloss - think long term. Weight loss achieved over short term, always comes back. Try this general approach (see below) for 4 weeks. If this works then continue. Combination of nutritional plan, stress management, exercise prescription for your current fitness level and sleep improvement, (if required). 1. Do not eat anything sugary or sweet. Zero sweetness in diet. 2. Eat plenty of salad in lunch and dinner along with other foods. 3. Do not drink any liquid calorie like cola or fruit juices. 4. Brisk walks or jogging for 45 - 60 minutes every day. My best wishes.

Hi, Please follow these tips: - Consume plenty of green leafy vegetables like spinach, methi, broccoli, beetroot, drumsticks, brinjal, carrot, tomatoes, etc. - Consume fruits like apple, pomegranate, dry fruits like dry grapes, dates, fig, almonds, walnuts, pista, etc. as it contains lot of proteins and vitamins. - Intake of citrus fruits like oranges, musambi helps to increase the absorption of iron as it contains vit.C. - Take iron supplements according to the advise of your doctor.

Mr. lybrate-user, Corn flakes are purely refined carbohydrate, hence will get absorbed rapidly and can increase blood glucose rapidly. Since there are plenty of calories in it, weight increase can definitely occur. For a person with diabetes, corn flakes are better avoided. Thanks.
