Cerebrovascular accident or stroke affects different parts of the brain. As per your history, it looks like your mother has brain stem infarct. And she has developed aspiration pneumonitis. At 85 years all these can be critical. Kindly follow the neurologist advise. It would be better to do chest physiotherapy and frequent position changes to clear her chest. Ryle's tube through which food is given can be changed once every 6 weeks or if it gets obstructed. Hope she gets well soon.

Hi lybrate-user, I am a neurosurgeon. I would like to know if there is any movement in any of his limbs and the cause of his stroke. Brain cells, unlike other cells in the body will not regenerate once it is damaged. So recovery of movements depend mainly on the extend of damage the brain suffered at the time of stroke. Unfortunately there are no magical drug that will cause new brain cells to form instead of damaged ones. What we can do is to put him on aggressive physiotherapy to facilitate or stimulate the brain for better recovery. Hyperbaric oxygen helps in some cases. Thanks.

The treatment options for cerebral palsy are more of mechanical rather pharmacological. It will be best guided by direct patient examination and physiotherapy. For sacroilitis a lot of medicines are available. Pain killers are only a part of the treatment regime and should not be continued regularly for long. Other options can be opted after ruling out other associated spinal diseases by mri and blood investigation. It is better to consult a spine specialist for the detailed examination and treatment.

Go for regular health check up with the doctor so that he can be physically checked and also overall review can be done. With the usage of regular medicines as prescribed by the doctor, and persistent efforts to be active - like doing physiotherapy and yoga, maximum benefit can be achieved. You can also add homeopathy which is safe and gentle (it helps natural recovery) without any side-effects. You can contact me for a detailed consultation so that appropriate homeopathic treatment can be given.
