Hello, thanks for the query. I have seen the details mentioned. From that I understand you had hashimot0o's thyroiditis (ht), which caused hypothyroidism and were on treatment with levothyroxine. Since tsh was low, treatment was stopped and now again it is high. Please clarify following: 1) when was the treatment stopped? What were the t3, t4 & tsh levels at that time? 2) do you have any symptoms related to hypothyroidism now? 3) your bmi (body mass index) is 28.75 kg/sq meter very close to being obese. Has your weight increased after stopping the treatment? 4) what are the current t3, t4 levels as well as lipid levels? It is necessary to know all these. Then only I will be able to advise. Another aspect it is better to get thyroid profile test done at a good local lab rather than going for online package deals. Plus why are you taking metoprolol 12.5 mg? Why was it prescribed? Please come back with all the above clarifications. Thanks.

lybrate-user ji, thanks for the query. I have seen the details mentioned. The information given is inadequate. It would have been better if you had mentioned t3 & t4 levels (at the time of diagnosis), weight & height as well as lipid profile. As regards high number of anti tpo antibodies, usually there is no separate medication to treat hypothyroidism caused by hashimoto's thyroiditis (ht). I am sure you are aware that in a well controlled patient tsh should be maintained around 3 mu/l and t3 & t4 should be in the normal range. In this communication we are supposed to give only general guidelines, no drugs can be recommended or prescribed. If you have any further questions please come back with all the above information preferably in a private conversation, then I will be able to give specific guidelines and prescription if needed. Thanks.

If you're symptomatic you need to take thyroxine or else you can observe your tfts for a while. Unfortunately herbs don't contain thyroxine and once you have a diagnosis of hashimoto's thyroiditis it is hard to reverse it. I can understand your concern regarding medications but a lot of people taking alternative medicine finally get complications.

lybrate-user ji, thanks for the query. The treatment for hashimoto's thyroiditis (ht) is taking adequate amount of levothyroxine and maintaining tsh level with in normal range. Since your tsh 0,2 mu/l (normal range 0.5 to 4.5 or 5 mu/l). It appears that 100 mcg of levothyroxine is slightly higher than required. My suggestion is please check tsh after another 6 weeks. If then level goes still lower then dosage may have to be reduced by 12.5 mcg per day. As regards high anti tpo antibodies, there is no definite treatment. However, taking selenium seems to be of help. The tablet recommended by the doctor does have selenium in it hence may be continued. However, there is no guarantee about reduction. Most important is controlling tsh around 3 to 4 mu/l. Thanks.
