Urinary frequency can be defined as needing to urinate more than 7 times in a period of 24 hours while drinking about 2 liters of fluid. Urination is a complex process, involving various body systems. A range of changes can make the urinary system more active. Lifestyle-based causes include drinking a lot of fluids, especially if they contain caffeine or alcohol. At night, this can interrupt the sleep cycle with urges to urinate. Frequent urination can also develop as a habit. However, it can be a sign of kidney or ureter problems, urinary bladder problems, or another medical condition, such as diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, pregnancy, or prostate gland problems. Other causes or related factors include: anxiety diuretics, such as chlorothiazide, that make you urinate fluid from your body food and drinks that act as diuretics stroke and other brain or nervous system conditions urinary tract infection tumor or mass in the pelvic area interstitial cystitis, a type of inflammationof the bladder wall overactive bladder (oab) syndrome, which causes involuntary bladder contractions that lead one to feel a sudden urge to have to urinate.

Hello, It might be diabetes insipidus. So go for blood sugar, HbA1C and urine test to rule out urinary tract infection or diabetes. Then consult with report and start proper medicine. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, By now you must be aware about the condition, diabetes insipidus. It is a hormone (ADH) deficiency disorder. Since there is no hormone being produced by hypothalamus, it has to be daily supplemented and that too for lifetime. There is no other option. Thanks.

HELLO, Nocturia is defined as nocturnal urination. This means the need to get up in the night to go to the toilet. Needing to go to the toilet up to once during the night is considered to be normal. Needing to urinate more than once during the night could indicate a temporary or longer term problem may be present. Increase in urinary frequency may be due to diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, urinary tract infections, bladder stones or mass etc. First if there is any burning sensation in micturition or lower abdominal pain, fever is present, then it might be due to uti and urine culture should be done followed by proper antibiotic therapy. Get an usg kubp done to exclude cystitis (bladder infection) or bladder stone. If there is no such symptoms present like burning in urine, fasting blood sugar and post prandial blood sugar should be checked to exclude diabetes. Serum sodium, 24hr urine volume and osmolality is checked for excluding diabetes insipidus. Also avoid sweetened drinks, alcohol and excess amount of coffe or tea intake. Water intake should be restricted to 3-4 litres per day. Then according to reports furthur treatment can be done.

increased frequency of urine may be due to a recurrence of uti ,you need to get an urine routine and microscopic examination done for that. whereas Increased volume of urine or polyuria may be due to many causes. If blood sugar levels are normal, diabetes mellitus is excluded. First water, sugar,caffeine,alcohol intake needs to be decreased. If problem does not subside after that, 24 hr urine volume measurement need to be done. If its more than 3litrs, then urine and serum osmolality and specific gravity needs to be evaluated. Depending on them serum vasopressin level and desmopressin stimulation test needs to be done later. These tests will exclude central or peripheral diabetes insipidus or polydipsia. Treatments can be done accordingly. Also history of taking any drugs like lithium, demeclocycline, amphotericin b, aminoglycosides etc. Or histry of any cns infections, trauma, surgeries needs to be excluded.
