My wife had typhoid but now shes fine but she is having pain in her lower abdomen. Can you please tell why is she getting pain? Is it cz of the heat of the tablets or is it cz she is now eating her normal food? please help.

Typhoid fever is an acute infectious illness associated with fever that is most often caused by the salmonella typhi bacteria. People with typhoid fever usually have a sustained fever as high as 103 f-104 f chest congestion develops in many patients, and abdominal pain and discomfort are common. The fever becomes constant. Improvement occurs in the third and fourth week in those without complications. Only about 10% of patients have recurrent symptoms (relapse) after feeling better for 1-2 weeks. Relapses are actually more common in individuals treated with antibiotics. I need to study your past treatment medication before I suggest further medication. Let's discuss it in detail.

My father is diagnosed with typhoid in widal test with o type titre = 1: 380.his wbc count is 11,500 and platelets 2,05,000. He has gone under treatment with monocef 1 mg and neurobion gold through iv. Also orally he has taken calpol & ciprox 250. Now he is feeling heavy head, weakness but no fever. Main concern is he is sweating a lot in night only since diagnosed with typhoid. Do we need to worry about it? What line of treatment is advice further? What diet should be followed? What precautions need to be taken? How long it takes to recover from typhoid?

It may take 2-3 weeks to fully recover. Follow progressive diet plan: a progressive diet from a liquid diet to a normal diet depending on the level of tolerance would help the person’s appetite. •fluids in the form of tender coconut water, barley water, electrolyte fortified water, fresh fruit juice, vegetable soup, buttermilk and water should be consumed until body temperature comes back to normal. •to begin with, consume liquid diet for a few days and then gradually take fruits like bananas, can notaloupes, watermelons, grapes, peaches, and apricots. It is better if solid food is avoided unless the person feels very hungry. •as the person’s appetite gets better, semi-solid foods can be given. Boiled rice, baked potato, soft-boiled or poached eggs, baked apple, yoghurt, vegetable soup can be given. •when you are free from the fever, fruits, boiled vegetables and unrefined foods like unpolished rice and white bread can be included. •a typhoid recovery diet plan should include yogurt and eggs, as they are easier to digest than meat and provide adequate protein. For vegetarians, lentils, legumes and cottage cheese, meet the protein needs. Diet tips: 1.Drink boiled water and keep your body hydrated. 2.Consume 3 – 4 liters of fluids in the form of water, fruit juices, tender coconut water and soup. 3.Eat small frequent meals rather than large meals to ease digestion and for maximum nutrient utilization by the body. 4.Try not to include spices as much as possible till the fever recovers. Slowly introduce protein in your diet in the form of eggs, yoghurt and boiled fish; depending on your tolerance level, increase the portion size. Foods to avoid during typhoid: dietary precautions during treatment of typhoid fever make sure that the disease does not aggravate. It helps you ease from the discomforts of the disease. •avoid high fiber foods: intake of whole grain cereals and their products like oatmeal, whole wheat bread, and raw vegetables in the form of salads, are rich in fiber. It can add on the stress on your digestive system. •avoid vegetables like cabbage, capsicum and turnip as these can cause bloating and gas. •stay away from oily foods, spices and seasonings like pepper, cayenne and chilli powder to make sure that the digestive tract does not inflame all the more.

My mother is 70 years old .sugar patient hb1ac 7.4 she has chronic stomach problem .she has lose motion frequently .almost same condition for 4 months .2 times admitted in emergency due to severe diarrhea. On regular basis we give librax .emyral before fast and rifagut after lunch .yesterday she had 3 lose motion .took entamizole and imodium .today she has 102 fever and 170/77 bp. We are worried despite various doctors checked prescribed .my mother is not recovering .only simply rice she eats not gud fr sugar but if we give bread or chapati .she had sudden lose motion pls suggest wat to do and where to go.

Her gut immunity is very low. So we need to work on that. Secondly she might be having electrolyte imbalance. This may be due to reduced gut immunity. She needs to be treated in this line. Secondly it might be due to any food intolerance. This has to be ruled out. Thirdly she might be having worm infestation or amoebiasis. You need to do a stool examination for this. Fourthly pancreatitis may be a possibility. You need to do serum amylase and serum lipase to rule out. Last but not the least this is a common phenomenon with chronic long term diabetes called diabetic gastroparesis with diarrhoea. For further information and advise you may chat personally with an online consultation on this platform. Thank you.

If you feel you are grossly underweight and not gaining weight, first of all you have to check if you have any disease like anaemia or thyroid disease by a blood tests cbc, pbs and tsh. If the tests are normal, you have to do this for gaining weight and follow these steps .1) estimate your calorie needs for weight gain. First, you need to determine your total energy expenditure (tee). For thin men, multiply your weight in pounds by 11, and for thin women, multiply your weight in pounds by 10. Then multiply this number by an activity factor. If you get very little activity, use a factor of 1.3; if you get a little exercise or have a job that requires standing, use 1.6 if you're a man and 1.5 if you're a woman; or if you are moderately active, such as with a light labour job, use an activity factor of 1.7 if you're male and 1.6 if you're female. Once you've determined your tee, add 500 to this number for your total calorie needs for weight gain. 2) eat five to six small meals a day. Eating smaller meals more often helps prevent you from getting too full, which might help you get in more calories and help you reach your weight-gain goals. 3) balance your intake. Even though you need to eat more calories to help you fill out, the academy of nutrition and dietetics says it's still important that you include a variety of foods from all the food groups, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein foods and dairy products. 4) add calories to your usual foods. For example, at breakfast make your oatmeal with milk instead of water; add cheese and avocado to your sandwich at lunch; and instead of steaming your veggies at dinner, sauté them in olive oil. 5) snack on high-calorie foods. Fruit and nut mixes, peanut butter on whole-wheat toast, cheese and crackers are all nutrient-rich, high-calorie snack options that can help you gain weight. 6) drink your calories -- but in a nutritious way. While water is good for hydration, when you want to gain weight it's better to drink beverages that supply calories. Milk and 100 percent fruit juice make the healthiest drink choices. The academy of nutrition and dietetics also suggests that you drink your fluids in between meals so that it doesn't affect your appetite during mealtimes. 7) the most important gist of the weight gain programme is to keep a food diary or use an online calorie tracker to help make sure you are meeting your calorie needs. Add non-fat dried milk powder to your milk, soup, yogurt, mashed potatoes and hot cereal. A 1/4-cup serving of the powder adds 109 calories and 11 grams of protein. To help make sure you gain muscle and not fat, add strength training to your exercise routine.
