The common cold is the most frequent infection in all age groups. Children especially contract a lot of colds. Colds are caused by a viral infection that effects the respiratory system. Colds often respond well to homeopathic remedies which is a tremendous advantage over modern medicine which has no cure for the common cold. Homeopaths generally advise that a cold or two every year is not a bad thing, as it “cleans out” the system and hence, the adage: don’t cure a cold, let a cold cure you.  Still others say that you never know what your “innocent/ordinary” cold might erupt into–a flu, a pneumonia? For general painful conditions you can take over the counter available analgesics like Ibuprofen or Paracetamol or Disprin. Nimesulide should not be used as it has been banned in many countries. Drugs like Ibuprofen and Disprin can cause gastritis and kidney damage if used over a long period of time specially if the patient also has diabetes or hypertension. Safest drug to be used at home for entire family irrespective of age is paracetamol. 500 mg paracetamol tablet can be taken up to 4 to 6 times a day for a healthy adult with normal weight. It can be used for fever, body aches, headache etc. Any pain or fever not responding to simple measures needs evaluation and consult your doctor.

If cough is not responding to cough syrup there is a possibility of a serious infection. You should consult a physician and start an antibiotic. Y ou might also need a change of cough syrup. In the mean time do steam inhalation, avoid cold food and drinks.

Chloroquine is specific for malaria so unless yoyears child is suffering from malaria it will not help. Your child might be having a simple viral infection which usually responds to paracetamol that you are giving to your child. However it is difficult to say for sure without seeing the patient. So if your son does not respond or develops new symptoms or has persistent vomitting and not taking orally well I suggest to consult a paediatrician. Warm regards

If baby is getting fever 6-8 hourly, responding to paracetamol, in between fever active, passing normal urine (as it was before illness) and not dull then it may be viral. Any thing else need investigations on day 4.

For pain take tablet paracetamol 650 mg and I will suggest you to buy a steam inhaler machine of crescent company and take a flow of steam (of plain water only) over the forehead through the inhaler and can repeat the process after eight hours as and when required and few things related to headache so that we can plan the treatment accordingly - if pain is associated with blurred or decreased vision than check your eye sight for refractive error - if the pain is associated with cold and fever than we have to rule out sinusitis as the cause and if the pain is pulsatile in nature and with a throbbing pain usually with an aura than we have to rule out migrane as the cause - if the pain is associated with neck problems than we have to rule out cervical spondylosis as the cause - if the pain is associated with either low or high bp or due to hyperacidity than we have to treat the cause after examination.

Dear lybrate-user. When does fever start. And chills or rigor. Get mp_qbc and widal test done. And also cbc. If it's of viral origin it will resolve within a week. Get cold sponging and take bath. You will feel better.

Give her paracetamol for fever, domastal susp for vomitings&ors. If she does" nt respond consult your doctor immediatly.

1.Take paracetamol 500mg, one tablet sos upto a maximum of three tablets daily after food 2.cold sponging Sos 3.Drink plenty of water 4.Take rest 4.If no relief do blood examination like ESR, CBC, Widal/ Typhidot test, Blood for mp/malaria antigen and Dengue antigen(NS1) test, urine Re/Me after consulting doctor 5. consult me for further advice

For cold take tablet cetrizine at night and For fever take tablet paracetamol 650 mg and For cough take syp ascoril-D 2.5 ml twice a day and take cp amoxicillin 500 mg 1-1 for five days and avoid any known trigerring factor
