The cause of melasma is complex. The pigmentation is due to overproduction of melanin by the pigment cells, melanocytes, which is taken up by the keratinocytes (epidermal melanosis) and/or deposited in the dermis (dermal melanosis, melanophages). The skin gets its colour from a pigment called melanin. It is melanin that decides how light or dark our skin is. Melanocytes, cells present in the epidermis of the skin, produce melanin. The skin colour or complexion is directly proportional to the amount of melanin pigment produced by the melanocytes. Sepia ? One of the top grade Homeopathic medicines for facial pigmentation
