Hello Doctor, Hope you are doing good. Thank you in advance for your answers. I have a hypertrophic/keloid scars (childhood scar and a year old scar) as the wound didn't heal properly. I fell from a bike. The scar is on knees and elbows. I know it is not possible to completely get rid of it but to some extent it can be reduced/flattened. After a lot of research, I found silicone GEL sheets & 'MEDERMA FOR SCARS/ADVANCE GEL' >Firstly, I want to know which is my scar (hypertrophic/keloid)? >Does the above mentioned silicone sheets/mederma work on it? If Yes, which silicone sheet is the best certified? How much weeks does it take to heal? >Can you share any home remedies for the same? I am open for all forms of suggestions that is best ensured for getting rid of scars. Regards, Amith.

Hello lybrate-user Keloids or hypertrophic scars take around 2 to 3 years to get flattened with Homoeopathic treatment. The itchiness, burning or pain if any, will reduce sooner and then, it will begin getting flat. Also, with Homoeopathy, you will not get any new scars, as in, the tendency of your body to form keloids or hypertrophic scars will considerably decrease. Mederma will not flatten it, but will lighten the area if it is dark. Most home remedies include application of oil which will prevent itching. The more you avoid any mechanical trauma to the area, the better chances of healing. Homoeopathy does have some specific remedies like Silicea and Thiosinaminum to reduce keloids, but it is always best to consult a Homoeopath to understand what the disturbance within is all about. Because, not every patient having keloids will receive the same remedy. You can get back if you have further queries. Also, a picture would help differentiate between keloids and hypertrophic scar.
