I found complete tear of ACL of my left knee in MRI. Now if I will operate it by arthroscopy will be be harmful for future life or not. The screw which will fit at the drilled portion of bones are generally of which material and in your view which metal screw will be the best one to fix as these screw will remains inside till my death.

Hello Mr. Lybrate-user. My suggestion is that if you have complaints of difficulty in walking or climbing down stairs then its better to get your acl operated arthroscopically. Also this surgery is very commonly done and you will be benifitted by this procedure with great long term outcome the screws used are either of titanium alloy or biodegradable (depending on patients choice). Biodegradable screws are made of poly l lactic acid (plla) which are completely absorbed by body in span of 2 years approx without side effects.
