Hi. Can kesar (saffron) be had during first trimester of pregnancy? I have a spoon of diluted kesar (soaked in water) with a glass of milk everyday and would like to know if this is good for my baby or should I start its consumption later. Does consumption of kesar lead to bradycardia or fibroid? Please advise.

Yes, it is safe to add saffron (kesar or zafran) to milk but in moderate quantity especially when you're pregnant. Studies show that saffron may reduce blood pressure (bradycardia) and mood swings. In large doses, saffron can act as a uterine stimulant and could cause contractions. It is best to add just one or two strands of saffron to a glass of milk during pregnancy.--------------------some pregnant mums use it to improve digestion and increase their appetite.----------------you can start taking saffron milk at any time during your pregnancy. ------------------------.
