Hi I've been taking citalopram for 5 days now for extreme anxiety with no improvements. My doctor rang me this morning & asked me to go in at 11 she said'because we're not getting anywhere But I'm so worried now because isn't 5 days too short to know whether it's working or not? I'm scared she's.

Hello lybrate-user, what I understood is that you may be diagnosed for some kind of anxiety disorder and been prescribed citalopram. Citalopram is ssri i. E. Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor. Usually serotonin defficinecy causes anxiety and depressive disorders. Citalopram helps to maintain serotonin level. However it takes 3-4 weeks to start proper action for these kind of drugs. So be patient and wait for this drug to work. Keep follow up with your doctor, she may increase the dose also depending on your response. Along with medication try some other relaxation techniques also. Good luck.
