Hello lybrate-user wax production in ear is a normal phenomenon and ear has physiological mechanisms by which the wax comes out automatically. However in some ears whose canal are narrow or the wax produced is excessive, it accumulates and causes impaction and hearing loss, pain and other symptoms. In such cases one must consult an otolaryngologist (ent specialist) who can remove the wax using a probe or endoscope as an office procedure. Self instrumentation with any ear bud is not recommended for the following reasons. 1. When you use an ear bud you are pushing the wax further inside. When an ent specialist removes wax using a probe he puts the probe behind the wax and pulls it outside. 2. You cannot see how deep you are poking with the ear bud, one of the commonest complications of self instrumentation is ear drum rupture or perforation. Perforated ear drums have a separate line of management. However you may use a wax desolving ear drops every few weeks after discussing with your doctor to make the formed wax more soluble and it can come off easier. Hope to find you in good health soon.
