Development of pleural effusion on the same side or on the contralateral side while on ATD is very common problem. It is immunological in nature. Anti tubercular drugs should be continued in the same dose and combination. Oral corticosteroids 1-1.5 mg per kg of body weight may be added if the fluid persists even after thoracentesis. The total duration of anti tubercular drug therapy may be prolonged to 9-12 months under special circumstances. For any further clarifications please revert. Will be pleased to assist you. Wish you speedy recovery.
