Dental Myths!

Dental Myths!

The common dental myths that everyone believes to be true.

When it comes to dental hygiene and care, no measures can be considered too much. You should make regular trips to a good dentist as well as take good care of your teeth yourself as well. However, there are certain myths that have come to associate themselves with dental hygiene, not all of which are true. Read on to know the differences between the fiction and the facts about dental care.

Dental myths Facts vs. Fiction
1) White teeth equal healthy teeth.
One thing that everyone believes is that if a person has teeth that are white, it is an indication that they are healthy. The fact is, however, the colour of the teeth is not indicative of their good health. Dentists ascertain the health of your teeth by checking the gum health, cavities (or lack thereof), and health of the jaw bone. You should always concentrate on having healthy teeth, even if they are not pearly white.

2) Braces are for children.
Another myth that is quite common is, only children can get braces for their teeth. This is also untrue as, in fact, braces can be put in place by anybody. While it is true that braces work best when they are used at an early age, even adults can get them to make sure that they have a well-aligned set of teeth.

3) Brushing and flossing.
There is a misconception that goes hand-in-hand with dental hygiene is that if a person brushes properly, he or she does not need to floss. No measure can be considered excessive when it comes to dental care, so even if you brush your teeth twice every day, the need to floss remains, as it cleans the area between the teeth, something that toothbrushes tend to miss.

4) Bleeding gums is commonplace.
This is one of the more interesting myths. It is actually a sign of gum disease and necessitates a visit to a dental clinic without delay. When hard deposits that stick to your teeth get accumulated for a long time, it leads to the gums becoming swollen and starts to bleed. If left untreated, a disease in the gums can result in the loss of teeth.

5) Scaling damages teeth.
Scaling is the process that removes the deposits that get stuck to your teeth over a period of time. Getting your teeth scaled at regular intervals makes sure that these deposits are removed and also gives a healthy look to your teeth. However, nothing done in excess can be good, so if you are prone to go for scaling your teeth at frequent intervals can damage the enamel. Doing it on a yearly basis has no risks involved as long as the dentist has good hands.

As evident from the above points, the myths do not have any truth attached to them. Now that you know about their fallacy, you can care for your dental hygiene in a better way.

6 Ways To Prevent Teeth Stains!

Teeth stains are a major inconvenience as a well as harmful for your teeth. Teeth stains can occur due to consuming certain foods and drinks. It can also be caused due to unhealthy lifestyle choices such as not brushing teeth or flossing.

Here a few tips on how to prevent teeth stains:

1. Practicing healthy habits

It is a good idea to brush, or use a mouthwash after a having a meal. Keep in mind that the foods and drinks mentioned below can stain your teeth more than others. Coffee or tea, soda, red and white wine, grape or cranberry juice, blueberries, beets, soya sauce and tomato sauce cause teeth stains so while consuming them keep in mind to always brush floss or wash your mouth after consuming these.

2. Drinking with a straw

Drinking with a straw keeps away the stains from your mouth as the liquid doesn't go near the visible front surfaces of the teeth.

3. Brush, floss and rinse with an antibacterial mouthwash

By brushing, flossing and rinsing with a mouthwash on a regular basis you reduce the growth of the bacteria called plaque. Plaque is sticky by nature and promotes the formation of teeth stains. By eradicating plaque you also prevent teeth stains.

4. Get your teeth professionally cleaned

Make sure to visit a dentist at least twice a year. Even while maintaining your teeth by regular brushing, flossing and mouthwash, getting your teeth professionally cleaned is beneficial and can help you guard against teeth stains.

5. Using teeth whitening kits

At-home teeth whitening kits are available in local drugstores which help in preventing teeth stains. They usually cause slight discomfort which goes away in a few days' time.

6. Professional tooth whitening

You can also get your teeth whitened by your dentist. In this procedure, the dentist applies a bleaching agent to your teeth after applying a rubber shield on your gums. This procedure usually takes a single or in some instances multiple visits to perform.

Hello ,crowning the teeth to camouflage gap ,is alternative not a standard line of treatment ,unless warranted by deep caries or pain ,for which RCT and crowning is done. Ideal line of treatment will be braces ,as it vl correct the malposition of teeth and for crown placement ,teeth will be grinded which in future may lead to sensitivity etc issues. It's quick fix to problem and also depends on your commitment for braces treatment ,which roughly takes 12-15 months of tym. Pls consult the doctor and den plan up properly.

Dealing With Wisdom Tooth?

Dealing With Wisdom Tooth?

Why is wisdom tooth removal necessary?

1.Sinus Issues: Problems with wisdom teeth can lead to sinus pain, pressure, and congestion.
2.Damage to other teeth: That extra set of molars can push your other teeth around, causing jaw pain, and crowding of teeth.
3.Jaw damage: Cysts can form around the new teeth. If they aren't treated, they can hollow out your jaw and cause nerve damage.
4.Inflamed Gums: Tissue around the area can swell and may be hard to clean.
5.Cavities: Swollen gums can create pockets between teeth that help bacteria grow and cavities form.
6.Alignment: Impacted wisdom teeth can cause problems with crowding of other teeth and even make treatment to straighten other teeth necessary.
Evaluation of your wisdom teeth will be done upon your initial exam. Depending on the severity of impaction, your extraction is planned.

I had rpd resting on two Canine tooth since 2016 at bottom Jaw. Unfortunately left side tooth broke & I am advised to go for Two Implants with New RPD. My top jaw is safe & sound. Would you like to comment on options available-such as entire Denture at bottom, as it is not only time consuming-torture & expensive proposal. If other Canine tooth fails & then it calls for emergency. Please advise, before I decide for treatment.

Dental implants are a popular choice for people that want to replace lost or broken teeth. There are several ways that a person can deal with this issue. They can live without the teeth that have been lost. This may not be the best choice as it can affect the appearance of an individual and it can affect the way they chew and eat. Another option is the use of dentures or partial dentures. These can provide a better appearance for individuals, but there are limitations to this choice. A third option is the use of dental bonding where a resin is used to fix broken teeth and gaps in the teeth.
