I am suffering from diabetes mellitus. My blood sugar level is above 250. I need a diet chart.
Lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. To provide a diet chart I need to know following details: present fasting, PP glucose levels, HbA1c%, diet pattern, extent of daily exercise and details of current medications with dosage, plus lipid profile. Your diet intake has to be based on the ideal body weight (not on current weight) which should be about 50 kgs. You will have to avoid junk foods, sweets, deep fried foods, pastries, bakery items and foods made from maida. Plus avoid colas and alcohol. Increase the intake of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Always use whole grain flour for roti and chapati. Thanks.

Mr. Lybrate-user, the blood sugar levels mentioned by you look quite ok. It also important to look at hba1c%, if that is<7%, then one can say diabetes is in good control. If you maintai sugar levels at the present level then it will in preventing or postponing the long term complications of diabetes. You have also not mentioned about the drugs being taken and their dosage. As regards the hypertension, it is not in control, which is clear with the readings which you have mentioned. To give any suggestion I need to know your current treatment with dosage. Another important aspect is that you have a bmi of 27.57 kg/m2, which means over weight, it also is a major contributor for high bp and sugar levels. If you are looking for any specific guidance, it will be better if you come with details like present fasting and pp levels, hba1c%, bp readings and drugs with dosage and diet and exercise pattern. Then I will be able to guide.

Chinese foods are worst for diabetics:

High-calorie, high fat, high-sodium, and high-carb chinese food dishes can spike blood sugar dramatically and keep it high for a while. The biggest offenders include fried entrees such as orange chicken and sweet and sour dishes, which contain breading and are served swimming in a sugary sauce.

Have this instead: if you enjoy chinese food, prepare a modified recipe at home using steamed veggies and low-sodium, low-fat condiments and flavorings. Reducing sodium can help lower blood pressure and decrease the risk of heart attacks. Skip the white rice and noodles; have brown rice or wild rice instead.

Everyday I give insulin to my mother. Yesterday after giving her insulin by mistake I pricked my finger with the same needle with a drop of blood flowing from my finger. Is there any thing to worry about? Can that cause diabetes in me? Please answer.

Just be sure she is not suffering from hepatitis B or C. If not then just take inj T intramuscular If yes which is very rare. You need to take treatment And BTW diabetes is not communicable it does not spread by needle injury but if you remain sedentary n don't exercise regularly there are chances you may get diabetes due to family history.
