Hi Dr. I am 26 years old female. My blood pressure level was 130/90 in last month of my pregnancy. Now 4 months has completed of my delivery. But still my bp level is 130/90. But before pregnancy and in 1st 8 mnths my bp was normal. Now bp level is 130/90. Is it normal or not?

M.S. Genral

You are stressed more now, though still for your age -your bp is higher on diastolic. So take rest -especially after the lunch-take less of salt in diet, and bland diet for 1 week and update me. For more queries consult me in private.

Hypertension - All You Need to Know

General Physician, Jaipur
Hypertension - All You Need to Know

High blood pressure or hypertension is a condition where the long term force induced by blood on the artery walls may lead to health complications. In some cases high blood pressure can be a chronic condition without any visible symptoms. The normal value of blood pressure is 120/80 mm Hg. Even if high blood pressure doesn't have any obvious symptoms, it can cause significant damage to cardiovascular health and blood vessels. Uncontrolled hypertension exposes you to the risks of stroke and cardiac arrest. Following are the causes and complications of hypertension:

Causes of Hypertension
The causes of hypertension vary depending on the two types of the condition namely primary hypertension and secondary hypertension. In case of primary hypertension there are hardly any identifiable causes.

Recently diagnosed high blood pressure with following signs may be due to secondary hypertension:

  1. High blood pressure not responding to blood pressure medications (resistant hypertension)
  2. Very high BP — systolic blood pressure over 180 (mm Hg) or diastolic blood pressure over 120
  3. Sudden-onset high blood pressure before age 30 or after age 55 Risk factors includes-
  4. High blood pressure tends to run in families.
  5. Being overweight or obesity, physically inactivity.
  6. Using tobacco/ smoking or chewing tobacco, too much salt (sodium) in your diet, Drinking too much alcohol
  7. Having more than two drinks a day for men and more than one drink a day for women may affect your blood pressure.
  8. Stress. High levels of stress /family history of high BP

Certain medications like contraceptives, painkillers and some other drugs

  1. Sleep disorders
  2. Problems related to the kidney
  3. Tumors in the adrenal gland
  4. Thyroid issues
  5. Congenital heart defects from birth
  6. Drug abuse
  7. Excessive consumption of alcohol
  8. Complications of hypertension

Persistent high blood pressure can result in atherosclerosis that is hardening of the arteries. This can severely wreck cardiovascular health and cause stroke, heart attack or other complications. Hypertension can also result in a disorder called aneurysm in which the blood vessels tend to swell and weaken. Rupture of an aneurysm can be fatal.

Heart failure is one of the most serious complications associated with hypertension. It becomes increasingly difficult for the heart to pump blood along with the high pressure. Consequently, the heart muscle thickens and leads to cardiac arrest. It can also lead to kidney problems. Narrowing and weakening of certain blood vessels present in the kidney can cause organ failure. It can also lead to eye problems and sometimes even loss of vision due to narrowing or thickening of blood vessels in the eye.

Metabolic syndrome, which refers to a cluster of deficiencies in the metabolism of your body including high triglycerides, low levels of good cholesterol (High density lipoprotein) and high levels of insulin. These metabolic disorders increase the risk of developing diabetes and other complications. Uncontrolled high blood pressure and interference with your ability to remember and think. It can trigger memory loss and affect your understanding and deriving skills. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a general physician.

Hi, I am 29 years old and have weight of 90 kg and height is 5 feet 10 inches. I want to lose weight. Can you suggest any ayurvedic medicine for this. I also want ot know if vrikshamala will help me to lose weight and regulate my cholesterol levels. Thanks.

high cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take green veg., whole grain. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

Sleep is essential for a healthy heart. People who don't sleep enough are at higher risk for cardiovascular disease—regardless of age, weight, smoking and exercise habits. One study that examined data from 3,000 adults over the age of 45 found that those who slept fewer than six hours per night were about twice as likely to have a stroke or heart attack as people who slept six to eight hours per night.

lybrate-user, you have the solution to your problem. You MUST plan properly and take structures meditation and mind calming classes. Be with nature more often and appreciate the different faces of each vision. Nature is prefect even if no two things are alike. We should learn to be like nature, appreciative of the variations offered before us. Take ashwaandha and Brahmi as tonics. They will help you increase your mental tolerance. Great are the people who can smile at every variation in life. There is beauty and fun in it too. Try this approach.

This seems like fluid collection behind ur ear drum .Otitis media with Effusion. If prolonged will require hearing tests . Steroids will help. Surgical removal of fluid is last option
