Nutrition Tips for Pregnant Women

Nutrition for you will never be as important to you as it is during pregnancy, because while eating you have to think not only about you, but also the development of your unborn child. However, merely eating is not enough you have to eat right. Here is your guide of what to eat and what to avoid, during pregnancy, so that your child gets the best nutrition.

Things to eat: 

  1. Whole grains: Whole grains, which can be found in food items like cereals, whole-wheat breads and pastas, are rich in folic acid, iron and fibers. Make sure you incorporate ample amount of whole grains in your diet to remain healthy during pregnancy.
  2. Beans: Beans are extremely nutritious for pregnant women, as they contain protein, fiber, iron, folate, zinc and calcium, which are much needed for the development of a healthy baby.
  3. Fish: Incorporate enough fish in your diet because they contain healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Salmon, for example, is  exceptionally good for health since it contains less mercury than other fish.
  4. Eggs: Eggs are rich in protein, and is also a good source of other nutrients like amino acids, vitamins and minerals, including choline which is crucial for the baby's brain development.
  5. Berries: Berries contain vitamin C, calcium, folate and fiber, which is important to your diet, besides being a delicious addition to your meal.
  6. Low fat yogurt: Sweetened yogurt is extremely bad for your health, but a cup of plain, low fat yogurt contains copious amount of calcium and is also a good source of proteins.

Things to avoid

  1. Soft cheese: Soft cheese, like feta, blue cheese, brie, etc. are made of unpasteurized milk, which contain listeria bacteria which might be fatal for you and your child. Hence, they are best to avoid.
  2. Undercooked or raw food: Raw meat may contain toxoplasma and other bacteria. Raw eggs in sauces like mayonnaise, uncooked dough, desserts like tiramisu and salad dressings are also harmful for you. Fish in sushis or self caught fish may also contain harmful bacteria and parasites or chemicals released from nearby factories. Do ensure that your meat and fish are thoroughly cooked while dining out as well.
  3. Unpasteurized juices: There is always a risk of juices, which are squeezed and unpasteurized, being contaminated with E-coli or salmonella, which can be very harmful for you.
  4. Pre-dressed poultry: Poultry that has been dressed and stuffed at the market often run the risk of being contaminated by the juices of slaughtered poultry, proving to be best breeding grounds for bacteria.
  5. Unwashed fruits and vegetables: Toxoplasma can breed on unwashed raw foods, which also cause harm to your health, mainly in the prenatal period.
  6. Alcohol, coffee and unpasteurized milk: These beverages have been deemed unsafe for pregnant ladies since they can cause severe health damages. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult a general physician.

Hello, we understand your situation. We would advise the following exercises: 1) please use steam or a hot pad on your knees 3 times a day, provided there is not much swelling. Incase of swelling, please use an ice pack. 2) keep both your feet on the bed straight. Place a roll of towel under your knees. Press knees to squeeze towel. Hold for 10 counts & release. Repeat this 10 times x 2 hourly. Regards

Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months. Changing the toothbrush alone donot keeps your teeth clean. All toothpaste have nearly similar ingredients like Abrasives, Fluorides, Surfactants, Antibacterial agents, Flavourants, Remineralizers, Fluoride, Diethylene glycol, Triclosan etc. Only the wrong brushing technique that we follow harms our teeth and gums. So consult your dentist, learn proper brushing technique, Brush your teeth twice a day, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush to protect your teeth and gums from plaque and calculus. Floss your teeth inter dentally once a day. Consume a healthy diet rich in vegetables and lean protein. Reduce your intake of sugary foods and beverages. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Drink plenty of fluoridated tap water. Drink not consume alcohol drinks. Don’t smoke.

Scientifically, the best hair oil is coconut oil as it is light molecular weighted and also has affinity to hair proteins. So it goes and sticks to hair and prevent excessive dryness as well as loss of hydration. If you have hairloss, then please start on Minoxodil solution.

I am an md skin but do not know much about ayurveda. One thing I can help you with is, in urticaria, you have to avoid: -sour -salty -pungent foods. Drink more butter milk.

Hello doc From past 3,4 months I am getting weakness in my hands sometimes shakky I do not have energy sometimes I get giddiness. I do not know whether its cuz of cervical spondylitis or any other disorder. I have a gerd problem with anxiety for both I take medicines. But getting weakness in my hands making more anxious. Dear user. I can understand. There could be many problems including neurological. You should consult a doctor at the earliest. But I suspect You are HEALTH ANXIOUS, it seems. Hypochondriasis is an Obsession with the idea of having a serious but undiagnosed medical condition. Health anxiety is not a serious mental disorder but without proper treatment the person affected could be depressed and continuously engaged in negative thoughts. I suggest online counseling, cognitive Behavior Therapy and Relaxation therapy. Take care.

avoid day time sleep. avoid tea, coffee, cola in late evening and after,take healthy diet, avoid stress. 8 hours sleep is ok. 10 pm to 6 am is good timing.

You need a immediate health check ups. Along with this follow these. Take more foods more frequently. Do not skip meals. Avoid fast foods as far as possible. Add ghee, butter etc with foods. Use extra refined foods with unrefined. Add extra healthy fats in cooking. Eat more fish, egg, meat etc. Avoid smoking, alcohol. Take quality sleep.
