Im a singer! Pls tell about tips and exercise for our vocal chord! What is the good way for better voice quality sound?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Breathe deeply and exhale on a hisssssssing sound. Repeat 10 times. Proper breathing is the foundation for a healthy voice AND control over nervous energy that can make the voice quiver. Say “Mm-mmm (as in yummy) Mmm-hmm (like yes) ” Repeat 5 times. This develops mask resonance, which creates a clean and vibrant sound by creating a clean approximation of the cords and a resonance that will sound great and project easily. Say “Mm-mmm. Mmm-hmm.” up and down your vocal range, from low to middle to high and back again, 10 times.

My friend is suffering from depression from last two years. Can I know how I can I make him free from this?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
My friend is suffering from depression from last two years.
Can I know how I can I make him free from this?
You cannot 'make' him free from this but you can help him. If he is not willing to do what needs to be done, nothing can help him. These are our limitations. However these are the things he needs to do: I believe there may be some genetic predisposition or there has been some childhood issue, related to anger, that needs urgent attention. You must go and meet with a counselor immediately and if that person advises that you meet with a doctor you must do so and cooperate to your utmost. Please visit these professionals along with your parents. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

10 Study Tips to Improve Your Learning Study Tip 1: Underlining Underlining is one of the simplest and best known study tips. It’s easy to highlight the most significant parts of what you’re reading. One key sentence per paragraph and a few important phrases here and there. You can only retain a certain amount so it’s best to retain the most important information. Study Tip 2: Make your own note and taking notes is one of the most widespread study skills out there. Essentially the aim of note-taking is to summarise lectures or articles in your own words so you can easily remember the ideas. Study Tip 3: Mind mapping A good Mind map can save you many hours of study and further consolidate your knowledge for your exams. Mind Maps are an extremely versatile tools. They can be used for brainstorming, outlining essays or study topics and for general exam preparation, ExamTime offers the ability to create Mind Maps quickly and easily which makes them the ideal tool when it comes to exams. Study Tip 4: Flash cards:- Using these are a particularly effective method of learning when trying to assimilate different facts, dates, formulas or vocabulary. Subjects such as History, Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Geography or any language are made much easier if you incorporate Flashcards in to your study. Study Tip 5: Case Studies Sometimes it can be difficult to grasp the implications of some theories. This is where studying case studies can be a big help. Case studies can help you visualise a theory and place it in a more familiar and realistic context. This is especially useful in business or law subjects. Study Tip 6: Quizzes are an excellent way to review study notes in the weeks and days before an exam. Quizzes can show where your strengths and weaknesses are, so it allows you to focus your efforts more precisely. Moreover, if you share your Study Quiz with your classmates and test each other as much as possible you can discover even more details and areas you may have overlooked. So before any exam, make sure you create and share a bunch of different Quizzes with your Friends. Study Tip 7: Brainstorming This is another study technique that is ideal for studying with friends and/or classmates. Brainstorming is a great way to expand every possible idea out of any topic. Just get a bunch of friends together and shoot the breeze, there are no wrong answers when brainstorming – just talk and capture the ideas, you can review afterward. Study Tip 8: Mnemonic Rules Mnemonics are especially useful when memorising lists and sets. Mnemonics rules basically work by associating certain concepts with other concepts that are more familiar to us. There are many different ways to make mnemonics and these can be individual to the person. Study Tip 9: ORGANISE your study One of the most effective study skills is also one of the most often overlooked; this is organising your study. Creating a TIME TABLE gives you goals and a time in which to achieve them. Having a study timetable as you study is greatly motivational Study Tip 10: Drawing Many people find it easier to recall images rather than text that is why they are better able to memorise concepts if they associate them with pictures or drawings. I am 31 year old male. Having cough and I smoke 6 to 7 cigarettes per day. How should I control my smocking?

BAMS, MD Ayurveda
Sexologist, Navi Mumbai
As per your concern as you smoke here is an remedy for you One of the simplest home remedies for a cough is to cut onions. Breathing in the strong vapors can help stop coughing. You can also make a cough syrup from baked onion juice, comfrey tea and honey. Drink it daily to get relief from a dry cough. Another option is to combine one-half teaspoon of onion juice with one teaspoon of pure honey. Swallow this solution at least twice a day to alleviate a cough and soothe your throat

I am suffering from schizophrenia for past 24 years. I am stable with alopathic treatment. Is there a better cure in ayurveda.

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
Mr. lybrate-user it is better to stay this way. Schizophrenia is a highly complex disorder with relapses and poor response in at least 20 to 30 percent patients according to many studies. Once you are stable with drugs it is better to stay that way rather than shifting yourself to ayurveda and get relapsed. To my knowledge I have seen many clients who have shifted to naturopathy, ayurveda trt getting worsening of symptoms and coming back. Do get confused. Kindly consult your psychiatrist for further help. All the best. Be relaxed stay healthy.

My girlfriend is very nice generally but sometimes I feel sudden changes in her mood. And this change appear so drastically that some times I feel she is a mental patient. If she is saying something, she keeps repeating that thing. At that time, no matter what happens to her she never cries. At some points, her talks I feel like she is going to end her life. But again the situation changes. She starts behaving normal, says sorry for what ever she said or done. Generally she is a normal and cool tempered girl but if any of her friends ever flirts with me just for fun, she takes it seriously. Once she attacked one of her friends just bcoz she took a selfie with me very closely. But on the other hand, she is ok with my friends on fb who are girls. Some of them are our common friends. Can you tell me what kind of nature is that? Or is it ok to be with her or its not going to be a good relation in future. please let me understand this.

My girlfriend is very nice generally but sometimes I feel sudden changes in her mood. And this change appear so drast...
It sounds like she could be quite an insecure person, especially around your relationship. The other behaviors need to be investigated with a counselor to see whether it is prevalent behavior under any and all circumstances. If this is her nature around you, it may have to do with her insecurity with you, and you may be contributing to it by playing psychological games, unconsciously. Fb relations are quite impersonal and will not be as threatening as fact-to-fact meetings and contact with girls: that is not abnormal. You must talk about the suicide threats and whether she is using it to leverage anything out of you. It does not augur well to be in such a relationship for the long haul. Have a serious talk with her about all these concerns and see how she responds. Ideally, it is best done before a counselor who can discern whether it is serious or she is playing some games. The counselor could also identify whether you are the initiator of the games, in which case you could do with some guidance too.
