yes but if you are not diabetic then nothing to worry about. it is always better to consume fresh fruit instead of juice as it lacks fiber.

Mr. Lybrate-user, hypothyroidism is not a curable condition. It can only be controlled by regular treatment. Tsh levels must be maintained between 3 to 4 milli units/ml for relief from all symptoms including weight gain. Vit d supplements can help correct that deficiency. But for hypothyroidism treatment has to be for lifetime. Thanks.

Energy Drinks Related To Diabetes

BSc - Dietitics / Nutrition
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Delhi
Energy Drinks Related To Diabetes
  • Early researches suggest that youngsters who consume a lot of caffeinated energy drinks can experience a spike in their blood insulin levels. This could make them more prone to a condition which increases their susceptibility to type 2 diabetes later in life. These drinks inhibit the body's ability to deal with a high load of sugar, which could lead to insulin resistance in which the body has to produce increasing amounts of insulin to clear blood sugar circulating in tissues" since caffeine persists in the system.
  • For 4 to 6 hours after consumption, continuous insulin resistance associated with regular caffeine-containing energy drink consumption in adolescents could contribute to increased metabolic risk in susceptible individuals later in life through persistent interference with their regular glucose metabolism" says heidi virtanen from the university of calgary, who led the study.

Your sodium and uric acid is already in normal range. The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR or sed rate) is a relatively simple, inexpensive, non-specific test that has been used for many years to help detect inflammation associated with conditions such as infections, cancers, and autoimmune diseases. Results from your sed rate test will be reported in the distance in millimeters (mm) that red blood cells have descended in one hour (hr). The normal range is 0-22 mm/hr for men and 0-29 mm/hr for women. The upper threshold for a normal sed rate value may vary somewhat from one medical practice to another. You need to check if you have any infection and if normal you need not worry.

Sir/mam am 41 year old female am suffering from thyroid and palpitation before sleeping .Can I get a solution?

Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
I am a registered dietitian and doctor who will help you in losing your weight. Let me know your food intake details. The best diet is one which is healthy and well balanced with foods from all the food groups, and one which is varied and that you can stick to weight loss on some diets can be dramatic in the short term, but there's more of a chance of rebound weight gain. Set yourself a realistic target and aim to lose between (0.5-1.0kg) a week I being a registered dietitian strongly accommodate the patients own preferences without the patient feeling that they are on a diet not compromising the weight management goals. Don't fall for self dieting or fad diets availiable online they have harmful effects in the long run, if you lose a lot of weight very quickly, you may not lose as much fat as you would with a more modest rate of weight loss. Instead, you might lose water weight or even lean muscle tissue, since it's hard to burn that many fat calories in a short period. I will need to carry out detailed assessment in your case, after assessing your personal challenges to weight loss, I will recommend a strategy to gradually change habits and attitudes that have sabotaged your past efforts. Reply back for private consultation for a holistic dietary therapy which includes diet, simple workouts and few medications.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. The values mentioned are fairly normal. TGL 200 mg is not really a problem at all. If the levels go above 300 to 400 mg or more, then you need to worry about. Your weight appears to be a bit more than what it should be considering the age. About 50 kgs is fine. So please work towards reducing it. That will improve TGL levels. There is no mention about blood glucose levels or HbA1c%, so no idea how well is diabetes controlled. Thanks.

Mr M L Swami, The sugar levels mentioned are exceptionally high, need urgent treatment. It is better if you come in a private communication with details like fasting, Pp and HbA1c% (all present values), dietary pattern and extent of exercise then I will be able to give specific guidance. Mr. Lybrate-user, the glucose values mentioned show (after food) show that you have impaired glucose tolerance (igt), it is also called as prediabetes. No treatment with drugs is advised, however, a modified lifestyle adaptation is needed to prevent it from progressing to full fledged diabetes. This includes daily exercise of more than 1 hour a day, taking a restricted diet that gives exact calories based on ideal body weight, and extent of daily exercise. Consuming more of green leafy vegetables, salads, fruits. Avoiding sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, and pastries. Also refrain from aerated sweetened drinks, fructose corn syrup containing products, highly processed foods, high fat milk products. Keep a periodic check of blood sugar.

How To Treat Hypothyroidism During Pregnancy?

MBBS, MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Warangal
How To Treat Hypothyroidism During Pregnancy?

The thyroid gland within the body plays an important role in regulating your metabolism among many other functions. This is a butterfly-shaped gland located in your neck and plays an important role within your body. However, a common condition that may afflict it is hypothyroidism or an underactive thyroid gland. It is even more of a problem if you are pregnant as it may affect your baby’s development in the womb. It has also been noticed that pregnancy in itself may cause hypothyroidism.

Symptoms of Hypothyroidism-

Pregnant women may also exhibit symptoms common to other patients who are suffering from hypothyroidism. These may include:

  1. Fatigue along with lethargy.

  2. Mild to significant weight gain.

  3. Constipation.

  4. Feeling cold with severe chills

The thyroid gland produces the T4 hormone responsible for regulating many mechanisms within the body such as metabolism. With hypothyroidism, the production of this hormone decreases or stops altogether. This is important as disruption in the production of the hormone may disrupt the normal development of your baby.

Effects of Hypothyroidism on your baby-

Hypothyroidism during pregnancy can affect your child’s developmental abilities. Many studies in this field have shown that such children tend to have learning difficulties and may even display lower IQ scores during tests. It was noticed that sometimes, hypothyroidism during pregnancy wasn’t diagnosed correctly as the pregnant mother did not show much apparent symptoms. This is also a major issue in the early diagnosis of the problem. Hence, it is absolutely imperative to test for thyroid problems early during pregnancy.

Prevention is the Best Cure-

It is thus very important that mothers be screened properly for thyroid issues even before they are pregnant and while they are pregnant. Some of the medically recommended steps that should be taken are –

  1. Screening before pregnancy as this can help to devise a solution for this condition.

  2. Women with goiter or enlarged thyroid should most certainly be screened.

  3. Women with a family history of hypothyroidism should be screened.

Treatments for Hypothyroidism During Pregnancy-

The doctors may suggest thyroid hormone replacement therapy wherein artificial T4 hormone is introduced into the body. This helps to maintain a constant rate of the thyroid hormone within the body. This can be done even before pregnancy as the developing fetus is completely dependent on the mother for its thyroid hormone until at least 12 weeks when the baby’s body can start producing it on its own. Also, the levels of this hormone should be regularly checked within the body through the TSH or the thyroid stimulating hormone tests to ensure that the levels are at a safe minimum.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Criteria for diagnosing diabetes are: FBG > 126 mg and/or PP >200 mg plus HbA1c% 6.5 or more. Your PP is less. Better get a HbA1c% test done. That should help. Thanks.
