I am 25 year old female. I have eye Site week I use shamh. How to get rid from it. I look like over age. I went to rid from it. Please tell me how I do?

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Sangrur
There is no medication or food for improving eyesight or to get rid of glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik laser as your age is 25 years now, so your number will not increase now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. As you are not comfortable with contact lens then go for lasik. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik.

I am 18 years old my eyes starts to pain when I stand in sun for a long time what should I do?

MBBS
General Physician, Faridabad
If you know people who spend most of their time outside on the sun, you know that they don't have problems like sunburns, they don't wear sunglasses (they don't need them, their eyes get used to sunlight, they don't squint on the bright day) and they have less eye problems. These people don't get skin cancer, their skin, having constant exposure to sun, knows how to protect itself. Human eyes of our ancestors were conditioned to absorb sunlight without harm; we, through sun deficiency, lost that ability to look at the sun without experiencing pain.

I got an infection in my eye. It is becoming red. And irritation and itching is happening. And swollen too. Plzz give me a advice to cure this?

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Hello. Redness of the eyes has multiple causes associated with it. To enumerate a few common causes: (1) allergy of the eye. It is usually caused by improper eye hygiene. There is a tendency to rub the eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth, etc. This is not a good habit because it tends to transmit lots of virus, bacteria and dust into the eye. Allergy usually presents with symptoms of watering (clear water), redness and itching of the eye. (2) infectious conjunctivitis: this is usually associated with white-yellowish discharge. If so, it would be a good idea to go and show to an eye specialist in person. (3) foreign body lodged in the eye. This is more commonly associated with people who drive 2 wheeler vehicles without protection. It occurs more commonly in one eye. Foreign bodies that commonly get lodged are eyelashes, insect wings, small insects, dust particles, iron particles (more common with people working in the iron industry) the solution for a foreign body lodged in the eye would be better provided by an eye specialist at the clinic. (4) raised intraocular pressure: this is a condition known as glaucoma. It is not so common as the previous mentioned conditions. There is usually associated pain in the eyes. It is commonly bilateral (occurs in both eyes). There is usually a positive family history of glaucoma associated in a majority of the cases. (5) inflammation of the coats of the eyeball. This is known as" uveitis" it is also a relatively less common condition. There is associated pain. It would require a thorough eye checkup including the retina-thus a good idea would be to visit the eye specialist in person. If you are sure that you have infection in the eye, then it would be a good idea to use an antibiotic eye drops along with a lubricant eye drops. Refrain from touching your eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth, etc. Keep washing your eye daily 4-5 times with clean hands and clean water in a gentle manner. If you are not sure that it is an infection, it would be a better idea to get your eyes assessed by an ophthalmic surgeon in person. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care.

Managing the Acute Red Eye

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Managing the Acute Red Eye

A red eye is one of the first and most common symptoms of conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis is the inflammation of the tissue that lies over the white part of the eye and lines the inner side of the eyelid. It is usually the result of a viral infection and can easily spread from one person to another. Conjunctivitis can also be a symptom of STDs like Gonorrhea or Chlamydia. In newborns, conjunctivitis can be vision threatening, while in grownups it is not considered a serious health risk. The symptoms of conjunctivitis differ according to the cause of the infection.

Some common symptoms of conjunctivitis are:

  1. Green or white discharge from the eye
  2. Redness of the white part of the eye
  3. Inflammation of the eyelid
  4. Waking up to crusted yellow discharge
  5. Itchiness and burning in the eyes
  6. Increased sensitivity to light
  7. Blurred vision

An eye examination and testing a sample of the fluid secreted by the eye can be used to diagnose conjunctivitis.  It can easily be treated at home and does not require hospitalization. Antibiotics are often given in the form of eye drops and ointments to treat conjunctivitis. These usually need to be applied 3 to 4 times a day for a period of 5 to 6 days. Wash your eyes before putting the eye drops. Once applied, close your eyes and roll the eyeball around to distribute the medicine and keep it from overflowing out of the eye. Wash your hands immediately after applying the eye drops.

Viral conjunctivitis is highly contagious. If you are suffering from it, you should take a few days off work and restrict your social interactions. Wash your hands frequently as you may unconsciously rub your eyes. This is especially important with regards to meals and finger foods. Also, avoid sharing towels, pillowcases, etc. to minimize the transmission of the disease from one person to another.

Avoid using makeup while being treated for conjunctivitis. With conjunctivitis, the eye is more sensitive to irritants and thus, a speck of makeup can worsen the situation. Also avoid contacts. If you wear contacts regularly, dispose the current set and start using a fresh set after your doctor gives you a clean chit.
Artificial tears or non prescription eye drops can also be used to relieve the itchiness and burning in the infected eye. If only one eye had been affected by conjunctivitis, do not use the same eye drop bottle for both eyes.

My eyes are weak and my no. Is increasing year by year. I want to get rid of spectacles. Please suggest me some ways to increase my vision.

FPRS, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Pune
You can think of lasik laser surgery. Lasik is a simple laser procedure which changes the shape of the cornea so that the light rays fall on the retina properly. It is a painless procedure. It is a day care procedure does not require any injections, does not require admission, you can simply resume your duties in 2 days. Cost varies from centre to centre. Side effects are usually limited to dryness of eyes for few months. We can do lasik anytime after age of 18 years. You need to undergo proper prelasik checkup to decide whether lasik is safe for you or not.

Ho doctor, I just want to know that does eye exercise can improve my eye sight and how many months I have to do it? My eye number is - 2.50.thank u.

MBBS, DOMS, MS - Ophthalmology, , Fellowship in phacoemusification

There is no medicine to reduce myopic power either allopathic or ayurvdic medicine. Myopic power is inherited from either mother or father side & is basically hereditary in nature ,maximum increase in myopic power takes place between 13 to 21 yrs in male & between 13 yrs to 19 yrs in female because maximum body growth takes place between these periods. There is no direct medicine to check the increase in myopic power but with the help of balanced diet ,green vegetables & seasonal fruits  one can slow the speed in the increase of myopic  power, one can take the help of yoga pranayam, swimming, gym &these things definitely slow the speed of increase in myopic power.

I have a eyesight problem but I hate from glass tell me other way to improve my eyesight as soon as.

DOMS, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
You have the option of surgical removal (lasik) of spectacle number but only after the age of 18. It is better that you use glasses in the meantime so that your eyesight doesn't deteriorate. Also lasik can be done only when your glasses number is stable.

My 2 months son's right eye watering from birth. His eye looks small. Please advise.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS

It's due to blockade of the nasolacrimal duct. It takes 6 to 12 months to open up. You must do massaging from the inner angle of the nose downwards morning and evening 20 to 30 times a day.

I have nearsightedness problems how can I minimize this problem please help me sir.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Near sighted-ness is also known as myopia. There are various techniques for tackling this problem. (1) glasses: you could get the refractive power of the eye checked and get glasses made for the same. (2) contact lenses: these are alternatives to glasses. Provided you are capable of maintaining proper eye hygiene and contact lens cleanliness, there should be no harm with using contact lenses. (3) refractive surgery: lasik, prk, etc are various techniques by which myopia can be permanently rectified. There are certain basic criteria that most patients need to fulfill before they can safely undergo refractive surgery. To enumerate, they are: (1) stability of refraction: the power of the eyes should have become stable for a period of 1.5 years minimum without any change. (2) curvature of the cornea should be tested by a technique which is known as topography. (3) thickness of the cornea should be measured by a test known as pachymetry. The minimum thickness required is 550 microns. (4) dilated retina evaluation: this is one of the most important tests that should be performed by a trained retina specialist. This test helps in detection of any offensive lesion on the central or peripheral retina. In case of any retinal abnormality, these should be treated before undergoing the surgery for number reduction. (5) there should be no pre-existent corneal abnormality. (example: corneal scar, opacity, defect, etc.) another important suggestion is that whenever you go for the assessment (the above mentioned tests), you should discontinue the use of contact lenses at least 4 weeks prior to the assessment. The reason for this being that use of contact lens temporarily alters the contour of the cornea. It takes around 3-4 weeks for the restoration of the original corneal contour after removal of the contact lens. Another important point is that you, as a patient, should be compliant to put post operative medication in your eyes for at least 2 months. There is bound to be some discomfort, watering, foreign body sensation, pain after the surgery in most cases-you should be ready to tolerate that. A leave from work for 7-10 days after the surgery should be generally sufficient. In case you have any other queries, feel free to contact me. Hope my suggestions help you, take care, regards.

I am suffering from night blindness please tell me what to do and what should it's remedies. Please give me guidelines about precautions and food.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Night blindness has various causes associated with it: (1) deficiency of vitamins- vitamin a deficiency, specifically, in young children may lead to night blindness. Prompt dietary modification and administration should be of help. (2) congenital defect: retinitis pigmentosa, heredomacular degeneration, congenital stationary night blindness are a few of the disorders that are present from birth/ childhood that could lead to night blindness. These should be assessed and treated accordingly. There are a few treatment options such as dietary supplements, low vision aid devices, genetic counseling therapy that might have some benefit in for the same. (3) raised intra-occular pressure may at times caused reduced vision at night time/ low illumination. This would be easily detected when undergoing checkup by an eye specialist. (4) certain other infectious conditions may also cause night blindness. Thus, my suggestion for you would be to undergo a thorough eye evaluation by a retina specialist and then follow the therapy suggested by him/her. Hope my suggestions help you. Take care.
