All the natural ingredients (Tretinoin, Hydroquinone and Cortisone) inlcuded in Melamet have only one goal: to improve your skin tone. Tretinoin helps prevent and treat acne and wrinkles by peeling off dead skin cells. Hydroquinone is the skin lightener agent in this equation that improves the overall tone of your skin. Cortisone is an anti-allergy ingredient that reduces inflammation and/or itching.' How to Use: Use the Melamet Cream just before bedtime. Wash it off in the morning, and apply some sunscreen if you intend to go outdoors. Failure to do so will cause significant damage and even result in your skin turning black.

4 Really Simple Ways To Prevent Premature Skin Aging

M.Phil, Diploma in Dermatology, MBBS

4 Really Simple Ways To Prevent Premature Skin Aging

Aging of the skin is a natural process that affects all aging individuals. It manifests itself in the form of skin wrinkling, sagging, discoloration and other visible effects. Such changes become more apparent as soon as one reaches late thirties or early forties but early onsets are now very common too, which can be caused by a number of factors.

Damage due to sun exposure is the primary cause of skin aging. It especially affects those who have lighter or fairer skin as the low melanin content in their skin makes it more prone to damage and aging.

Although skin aging cannot be entirely stopped or reversed, the process can be slowed down to prevent its early onset.

There are many ways of doing so through some simple lifestyle modifications such as the following:

  1. Avoid sun exposure : This is the most basic way of reducing the rate of skin aging and slowing down the process. While going out in the day cannot always be avoided, it is important to keep the skin covered with clothing, hats and sunglasses.
  2. Always wear sunscreen : This provides protection from the harmful rays of the sun (known as UVA and UVB). Making a habit of constantly applying sunscreen on all exposed parts of skin plays an important role in preventing skin aging. It is also necessary to use the right products, which should have an SPF rating or 30 or more.
  3. Eat healthy: Having a nutritious balanced diet can make a tremendous positive impact on your skin. Consumption of food items that are rich in vitamins, minerals and other nutrients is essential. It is also important to drink lots of water and fluids to stay hydrated. Junk food and sugary drinks should be avoided as it negatively affects skin health.
  4. Exercise regularly: Keeping fit through regular workouts and exercise improves the circulation of blood in the body and consequently, the supply of blood and oxygen to the skin. This keeps the skin healthy and young and prevents early onset of wrinkling and aging.

There are several other ways of preventing skin aging such as not smoking, avoiding the use of too many products and cosmetics, getting enough sleep, and always keeping skin cleansed and moisturized. Following these simple ways can effectively make your skin look younger and slow down the aging process.

Aloe vera gel is a natural treatment that has long been used to treat peeling skin. It is deeply hydrating, helping to restore moisture to parched or burned skin. Since peeling skin is often due to severe dryness, you must moisturize your face. Opt for deeply hydrating creams and lotions that are designed for dry skin.

Aging Skin: Skincare Routine to Swear By!

Aging Skin: Skincare Routine to Swear By!

We all fear the changes that old age brings with it, especially in terms of how it changes our appearance. Skin starts to lose its elasticity, dark spots appear on the cheeks and forehead, circles under the eyes grow darker and what not. The battle against ageing is something all of us (especially women) have to prepare for, and the good news is that there are definitely things, which we can add to our armor. Started early on in life, there are skin care measures which can help you combat ageing skin later in life. They will prolong the onset of ageing and also reduce severity of the symptoms. Read on to know more.

  1. Moisturizer: The skin needs hydration and better hydration yields younger looking skin that is radiant, supple and glowing. Whatever product you use, ensure it has collagen, which can improve the skin tone and elasticity. Vitamin C and K are also essential. From plain petroleum jelly to olive oil to Moroccan oil, pick a moisturizer that works for you. The intention is to give your skin the required amount of hydration it requires to keep it looking young.
  2. Sun protection: 90% of skin problems arise out of exposure to sun. Be it blemishes, dark spots, tanning marks or even melanoma (cancer), the culprit is the sun. It is a myth that a sunscreen is to be used only when you are out in the beach or on a hike. Use a sunscreen with sun protection factor (abbreviated as SPF on the product) every single day to avoid damage from the sun. Continued use for a couple of months will make you realize its benefits.
  3. Exfoliation: Regular removal of dead skin cells can help keep the skin healthy and glowing. This removes the blemishes and also improves absorption of moisturizers and sunscreens, improving their efficacy.
  4. Cleansing: The skin is the most exposed part of the body, and needless to say, accumulates a lot of dust and toxins from the environment, how much ever you try. Washing the skin off with water is the best way to keep it clean. Make sure you wash your face at least 3 to 4 times a day. Using a cleanser like Cetaphil will help in deep cleaning.
  5. Face masks: Whether brought from a shelf or made at home using combinations like cucumber/curd, glycerin/rose water, papaya, or lime/honey, frequently pamper your skin with these masks. The results will leave you astonished.
  6. Cleaning makeup brushes regularly: While this is hardly noticed, using the same applicators and brushes can carry germs from one day to another, and so they are best cleaned regularly.

Take care of your skin from early years, it will show later!! If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

Everyone has a favourite face cream or treatment, but beautiful skin starts with nourishment from within. Older cells are constantly shed and replaced by younger ones and a steady supply of micronutrients is essential to support this rapid growth. Eat the correct balance of foods and you'll feed your skin the vital nutrients it needs to help it stay soft, supple and blemish-free. Eat your five-a-day Fruit and vegetables contain powerful antioxidants that help to protect skin from the cellular damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are caused by smoking, pollution and sunlight and can cause wrinkling and age spots. Eat a rainbow of colourful fruit and vegetables and aim for at least five portions a day. Betacarotene, found in pumpkin, carrots and sweet potatoes, and lutein, found in kale, papaya and spinach are potent antioxidants, important for normal skin cell development and healthy skin tone. Vitamin C Vitamin C is also a super antioxidant. It is needed for a strong immune system, radiant skin and helps blemishes heal properly. The best sources are blackcurrants, blueberries, broccoli, guava, kiwi fruits, oranges, papaya, strawberries and sweet potatoes. They all help to produce collagen that strengthens the capillaries that supply the skin. Cut out crash diets Repeatedly losing and regaining weight can take its toll on your skin, causing sagging, wrinkles and stretch marks. Crash diets are often short in essential vitamins too. Over long periods of time this type of dieting will reflect on your skin. Stock up on selenium Selenium is a powerful antioxidant. It works alongside other antioxidants such as vitamins E and C and is essential for the immune system. Studies suggest that a selenium-rich diet can help to protect against skin cancer, sun damage and age spots. One way to boost your intake is to eat Brazil nuts. Just four nuts will provide the recommended daily amount (RDA). Mix Brazil nuts with other seeds rich in vitamin E as a snack or salad sprinkle. Other good sources are fish, shellfish, eggs, wheatgerm, tomatoes and broccoli. Vitamin E Vitamin E protects skin from oxidative (cell) damage and supports healthy skin growth. Foods high in vitamin E include almonds, avocado, hazelnuts, pine nuts and sunflower and corn oils. Drink up Skin needs moisture to stay flexible. Even mild dehydration will cause your skin to look dry, tired and slightly grey. Drink six to eight glasses of water a day - all fluids count towards your daily allowance, but water is the best. If you work in an office, keep a large bottle of water on your desk to remind you to drink. Herbal, caffeine-free teas are good too. Try to avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, both can age the skin. Don't be afraid of fat Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats - the types found in avocados, fish, nuts and seeds - provide essential fatty acids which act as a natural moisturiser for your skin, keeping it supple. These fats also come packaged with a healthy dose of vitamin E (a vitamin many of us lack), which will help protect against free radical damage. Eat more phyto-estrogens Phyto-estrogens are natural chemicals found in plant foods (phyto meaning plant). They have a similar structure to the female sex hormone oestrogen and have been found to help keep our natural hormones in balance. There are different types, some are found in soya bean products (isoflavones), whereas others are found in the fibre of wholegrains, fruit, vegetables and flax seeds (lignans). Include phyto-estrogen rich soya, wholegrains, fruits and vegetables as part of a balanced diet. Opt for omega-3 Make sure you get enough omega-3 and omega-6 fats. These are essential fatty acids which mean they cannot be made in the body and must be obtained through the diet. You will find omega-3s in oily fish and plant sources such as flaxseed oil, linseeds, walnut and rapeseed oil. Omega-3 fats encourage the body to produce anti-inflammatory compounds, which can help skin, particularly inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and psorasis. Go for low-GI carbs Eat plenty of beans, pulses, porridge and other slow-releasing carbohydrates. These release sugar into the blood stream gradually, providing you with a steady supply of energy and leaving you feeling satisfied for longer and therefore less likely to snack. Avoid high GI carbohydrates like biscuits and sugary drinks, as they lead to production of insulin, which may damage collagen and accelerate wrinkles. Don't forget zinc Zinc is involved in the normal functioning of the sebaceous glands in the skin (which produce oil) and helps to repair skin damage and keep skin soft and supple. Zinc-rich foods include fish, lean red meat, wholegrains, poultry, nuts, seeds and shellfish.

Breast tenderness may occur due to infection or it may occur with menstrual cycle in some ladies. Ca15.3 is not useful in this condition. Is the tenderness localised or diffuse? if any doubt, ultrasound of breast may be done considering young age of the lady. Please review with details.

Hello, I am 22 years old. I was used panderm plus cream but now I want to use brite lite cream so please brief me sir...
Do you know now if you stop using panderm you will get pimples and redness and sun sensitivity. How long have you used panderm on face. Panderm can cause serious side effects becuase skin becomes addicted to the steorid. If you use brite lite now you will develop irritation. Please send photos using online consult option for proper examination and treatment advice. Do not self treat with any medicine.

I guess it was the fap the reason for total proctocolectomy. 4-5 times motion frequency is the usually reported by the patient. Accept it as your normal.

Hi lybrate-user. I appreciate you seeking help. Following is what you can include in a low fiber diet - (a) poultry - tender meat cuts, chicken (well cooked and soft), scrambled egg whites. (b) dairy - fresh yogurt, cottage cheese, custard, ice cream, soups etc all (c) breads & cereals - white breads, white rice, plain pasta or noodles (d) vegetables - fresh and well cooked tender vegetables without any seeds, skin, stems etc all. Vegetable soups and juices (without pulp) can be taken too. (e) fruits - small amount of soft cooked fruit without skin and seeds, clear fruit juice, well ripened banana in small amounts, (f) apart from the above-mentioned, he can have dark chocolates, mayonnaise, plain gravy, honey, jellies etc all too subject to his health condition foods that he needs to avoid are as follows - high fiber foods including peas, beans, lentils, legumes, nuts, processes meats, tough meats, brown rice, dried fruits, raisins, wheat germ, canola, coconut, bran, whole grains and whole wheat products, steamed vegetables, corn, cabbage, cauliflower, onions, potatoes with skin, berries, marmalades, pickles, potato chips, olives, horseradish, cucumber etc all are best avoided. The above-mentioned is subject to your consulting doc's concurrence too. He may have to drink lots of clear fluids unless advised otherwise by his doc. Your consulting medical oncologist can best advise on the next steps post surgery. However, an integrated therapy that extrapolates the best of conventional medicine and naturopathic/ alternative medicine to further treatment shall be a desirable approach to treat, going forward. You may connect with me should you require me to complement appropriately. Hope this helps. Take care and all the very best.

My wife complained of painless blood in stool in june 2013. A colonoscopy with biopsy suggested chron's disease. Since then she was prescribed mesacol 400 mg thrice daily. However she took only 1 tablet per day for 2 years and that kept the problem in check. She got pregnant on september 2015 and was off mesacol for the duration of pregnancy. She delivered our baby via c section on june 2016 and since then was complaining of lose motion. She did not resume mesacol fearing interference with lactation. After 1 month of lose motion she started complaining of unbearable abdominal pain. We saw a gastroenterologist who suggested a few tests- USG whole abdomen, blood tests, fecal calprotectin and endoscopy (ugi, lgi and capsule). We did all the tests except endoscopy. Usg whole abdomen revealed nothing but fatty liver, blood test revealed high eosinophil and fecal calprotectin was 206. She was prescribed mesacol od 1.2 g twice daily and probiotics which she is taking now and has no problems now. My question is are all 3 types of endoscopy needed? What should be my future course of action?

Upper, lower and capsule endoscopy, each has got its limitations. In upper and lower gastro intestinal endoscopy you cannot reach beyond a point and to visualize the small intestine beyond duodenum and jejunum, one needs the capsule which independently traverses the course of tract giving imaging signals of the interior of the small intestine. Now that she is not having any complaint on mesacol 1.2 gm bd, you don't need to do much. Calprotectin at 206 (ug/gm or mg/ kg of faeces) is higher than normal consideration but it is a general marker only to suggest ibd (inflammatory bowel disease)
