If pregnant women use a lot of soft and fizzy drinks, they can reduce the absorption of useful nutrients and lose some irons that can make them lack blood. So better to avoid.

What Is Cervicitis?

The cervix is the lower part of the uterus that extends into the vagina. This is where menstrual blood exits the uterus. During labor, the cervix dilates to allow a baby to pass through the endocervical (birth) canal. Like any tissue in the body, the cervix can become inflamed for a variety of reasons.

Inflammation of the cervix is calledcervicitis. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, more than half of all women will be affected by this condition at some point in their adult lives (PubMed Health, 2012).

The most common cause of this inflammation is an infection. Infections that cause cervicitis may be caused by sexual activity, but are not always. The condition is typically categorized as acute or chronic. Acute cervicitis involves a sudden onset of symptoms. Chronic cervicitis lasts for several months.

Acute cervicitis is typically caused by a sexually transmitted infection, such as:

herpeschlamydiatrichomoniasishuman papillomavirus (HPV)gonorrhea

It can also be caused by an infection due to other factors, such as an allergy to spermicide or condom latex, a cervical cap or diaphragm, or sensitivity to the chemicals found in tampons. Regular vaginal bacteria can also cause cervicitis.

Chronic cervicitis is common after childbirth. It may also occur during pregnancy because increased hormone levels cause increased blood flow to the cervix.

What Are the Symptoms of Cervicitis?

Some women are asymptomatic, but when symptoms are present, they can include:

abnormal vaginal bleedingpersistent gray or white vaginal discharge that may have an odorvaginal painpain during intercoursea feeling of pelvic pressurebackaches

If cervicitis progresses, the cervix can become very inflamed. In some cases, it can develop an open sore. Pus-like vaginal discharge is a symptom of cervicitis of this severity.

Part 3 of 6

Complications of Cervicitis

Cervicitis caused by gonorrhea or chlamydia can move to the uterine lining and fallopian tubes, causing pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). PID causes additional pelvic pain, discharge, and fever. PID that is untreated can cause fertility problems.

How Do I Know If I Have Cervicitis?

If you have symptoms of cervicitis, see your doctor for an accurate diagnosis. The symptoms of cervicitis can also be signs of other vaginal conditions. Sometimes, cervicitis is discovered during a routine exam if you aren’t having any symptoms.

There are multiple ways cervicitis can be diagnosed.

Pelvic Exam

For this test, your doctor will insert a gloved finger into your vagina while also applying pressure to the abdomen. This way, he or she can detect abnormalities of the pelvic organs, which include the cervix.

Pap Test

For this test, also called a Pap smear, your doctor will take a swab of cells from your vagina and cervix. These cells will then be tested for abnormalities.

Cervical Biopsy

This test is often performed only if your Pap smear detected abnormalities. For this test, also called a colposcopy, your doctor will insert a speculum into your vagina. He or she will then take a cotton swab and gently clean the vagina and cervix of mucus residue. Then, the doctor will direct a light and colposcope (a type of microscope) at your vagina to examine the area. He or she will then take tissue samples from any areas that look abnormal.

Culture of Cervical Discharge for Microscopic Examination

Your doctor may also decide to take a sample of the discharge from your cervix. He or she will then place the sample under a microscope. This test can determine if you have a yeast infection (candidiasis), bacterial vaginosis, or trichomoniasis, among other conditions.

Tests for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) may also be performed. If a specific infection is contributing to your cervicitis, the infection will be treated. This should heal the cervical inflammation.

Part 5 of 6

How Is Cervicitis Treated?

There is no standard treatment for cervicitis. Your doctor will determine the best course for you based on several factors, including your overall health, your medical history, the severity of your symptoms, and the extent of the inflammation.

Commonly used treatments include:

antibiotics to kill any infectionswatchful waiting, especially after childbirthcryosurgery or silver nitrate in severe cases when there is damage to cervical cells (Cryosurgery involves using freezing temperatures to freeze abnormal cells in the cervix, which then destroys them. Silver nitrate may also be used to destroy abnormal cells.)

When the cause of your cervicitis is determined, it can be treated. Without treatment, however, cervicitis can last for years, causing painful intercourse and worsening symptoms.

Can I Prevent Cervicitis?

There are ways to reduce your risk of developing cervicitis. Abstaining from sexual intercourse will protect you from cervicitis caused by an STI. Reduce your risk of contracting an STI by using a condom every time you have sexual intercourse.

Avoiding chemical solutions, such as douches and scented tampons, can reduce your risk of an allergic reaction. If you insert anything into your vagina, such as a tampon or diaphragm, follow the directions for when to remove it and how to clean it.

My menstrual date is 3rd. So when will b my ovulation date and what are the fertile days?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
My menstrual date is 3rd. So when will b my ovulation date and what are the fertile days?
It is highly unlikely that you would get pregnant with sex immediately after menses as ovulation occurs much later. To calculate fertile period you can use following calender method. If a women’s menstrual cycle varies from 26days to 31days cycle, The shortest cycle (26days) minus18days=8th day. The longest cycle (31days) minus 10days=21st day Thus, 8th to 21st day of each cycle counting from first day of menstrual period is considered as fertile period.

During foreplay I am well lubricated. But when my fiance tries to insert me I get completely dry. How can I overcome this problem?

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
It takes the essence of sixty drops of blood to make one drop of semen; furthermore, much subtle life energy (prana) is lost in sex life. Then there is the danger of sexually transmitted diseases, which are extremely painful and nasty. What suggestion I am giving you is strong , harsh and annoying but is true and holistic approach for your overall well-being. If you sincerely follow my suggestions for six months , you would feel pure , fresh and healthier than now. The process which I am suggesting to you would make you feel happier , peaceful and satisfaction , because the process mentioned below is the king of education , the most secret of all secrets , it is the purest knowledge because it gives direct perception of self by realization , it is ever-lasting and joyfully performed. Kindly remember that any illicit sex activity ( sex outside of marriage and other than that for producing children , for example masturbation or any type of recreational sex for pleasure only ) is very bad for your future. It spells trouble physically , mentally and for your real self. Even sex inside marriage but only for recreation or pleasure comes under illicit sex , and is one of the main causes of misery. So strictly avoid illicit sex activity. Lust is perverted form of Love. The misunderstanding that sex is gift of God is a false education and has to be corrected to prevent suffering. Most of academic schools , college do not help to get the correct information regarding this subject. So one has to endeavour with self discipline to seek out the Absolute Truth regarding safe sex from the most reliable source. How to avoid sex trouble? It is been proved by medical research that to overcome illicit sex desire , Mantra meditation helps amazingly well. Mantra meditation means to chant the Holy Names of God with "love and devotion". This has been validated by all bonafide sources ( from Vedas , Bible ) and it works. Try it. You have nothing to lose except your anxiety and bad habit. This information is based on Vedic Literature which is the oldest manual known to mankind and thus the Absolute Truth. The information from the Vedic Scriptures applies to every one , of any age , gender , nationality. One risks suffering if one ignores the Vedic information. According to the Vedic Scripture , any illicit sex practice is a sinful activity. One may do many activities unknowingly due to lack of information , but one has to suffer for each sinful activity which one does. So this information from Vedic scriptures is compulsory to prevent a lot of suffering. The Vedic Scripture tells "You have got this human form of life after many, many millions of years waiting." So do not misuse it. That is Vedic civilization, not to misuse the human form of life. Nature's law is very, very strict. This life, it is given, a chance. Nature gives a chance. Now you get this human form of life, advanced consciousness. Now you make further improvement. That is wanted. From here we can make further improvement." - SB 11.9.29 Purport Sex binds one to bodily consciousness and thus takes one away from realizing one's real self within the body. For every pleasure which one derives from illicit sex , one risks equal amount of pain or suffering in future. The Vedic literature indicates that , to the extent that a person becomes interested in sex, that much he loses all good qualities. For from lust develop all other bad qualities such as greed, personal ambition, hatred, and cruelty. ?Sex life is the background of material existence. Demons are very fond of sex life. The more one is freed from the desire for sex, the more he is promoted to the level of the demigods; the more one is inclined to enjoy sex, the more he is degraded to the level of demonic life.? (SB 3.20.23) Illicit sex causes unwanted pregnancy , sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis , gonorrhoea. To keep women for sex life , one has to beg ,borrow, steal and commit many abominable activities which causes one to suffer a lot. The pain or suffering which comes as a reaction , can happen either immediately or even after months or years just as a seed fructifies to give fruits in future. So even if one feels fine currently , one should not ignore and keep repeating illicit sex activities. For example, we see in newspaper persons getting arrested or getting punishment years after they commit wrong. The law of nature acts to punish for misdeeds. But if you sincerely follow the above suggestion to stop these activities , you can get mercy and the reactions of your acts can get minimized or even nullified. So make your mind from today to stop the illicit sex activity as per the suggestion mentioned above.

Its vaginal prolapse always, not bladder prolapse as such. Content of vaginal prolapse can be urinary bladder. Fibroids are almost never known for this entity under normal circumstances.

Spinal Stenosis - Causes, Symptoms And Treatment!

Spinal Stenosis - Causes, Symptoms And Treatment!

What is spinal stenosis: The narrowing of the spinal canal in which the spinal cord and nerves are present, is called as spinal stenosis. This leads to pressure on the nerves and the spinal cord. Majority of cases of spinal stenosis are seen in the cervical and lumbar spine. In the lower back in some cases, it leads to pain and weakness of the leg, which occurs due to constriction of the nerve roots.

Causes of spinal stenosis: It can be caused by aging and degenerative changes, arthritis, trauma to the spine, spondylolisthesis and tumour of the spine.

Symptoms of spinal stenosis: There is constant pain in the back and legs as stenosis pinches the nerve responsible for sensation and muscle power to the spine and legs. Other symptoms are numbness and tingling in the legs, frequent falling and pain while walking.

Treatment of spinal stenosis:

  1. A routine program with exercises and physical therapy are the best treatment for spinal stenosis. The exercises are not a complete cure but they are beneficial in keeping the patient active and reducing the rate of degeneration. A physical therapy can be supervised and once the period of the same is over, people easily transition to the exercise program. The key for exercise is starting slowly in order to build up muscle strength.
  2. Generally, the patients are counselled not to perform strenuous activities as that might worsen the symptoms of spinal stenosis. In case of lumbar stenosis, patients find it comfortable when they FLEX FORWARD. The doctor might recommend walking while being bent over and leaning when using a walker, sitting in recliners is also recommended instead of straight back chairs.
  3. Injections of cortisone are usually given in the epidural space. This is believed to relieve the symptoms of spinal stenosis temporarily. This is still being pondered over by the doctors as a suitable treatment option as it has its own benefits and risks.
  4. Medications such as the anti-inflammatory medicines like ibuprofen or aspirin are helpful in controlling the symptoms of spinal stenosis. Narcotic drugs might also prove to be helpful if used with care and for a short while. This is helpful for severe pain related to the nerves. Muscle relaxants and gabapentins might also be recommended. In some case antidepressants in small doses might also be given to provide relief from pain.

Though side effects are a concern when using these medicines, the patient should let the doctor knows about their allergies.
