COBALATION IN ENT - A NEW TECHNIQUE BLODLESS SURGERY OF TONSILS ADENOIDS VIA COBALATION

MBBS, MS - ENT, DNB (ENT)

COBALATION IN ENT - A NEW TECHNIQUE BLODLESS SURGERY OF TONSILS ADENOIDS VIA COBALATION

What is coblation tonsillectomy?
Coblation is an advanced technology that uses gentle radio frequency energy with a saline solution to quickly and safely remove tonsils without causing much pain & no bleeding.

How is cobalation tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy done?
This surgery is done under general anaesthesia generally takes about 30 min. The surgeon uses a special cobalation wand which utlizes radio frequency energy to remove tonsil adenoids in a nearly bloodless fashion the patient can go home the same day.

Why is coblation tonsillectomy a better choice?
Older ways of removing the tonsils and adenoids include cold steel method of dissection. These methods could cause extensive pain, bleeding and may damage healthy tissue around the tissue that is removed. Coblation does not remove the tonsils or adenoids by heating or burning preserving healthy surrounding tissue.

What are the benefits of coblation tonsillectomy?
Fewer'bad days patients report a better overall experience with coblation tonsillectomy after surgery when compared to other procedures. Studies show that patient calls and visits to the doctor due to problems after surgery are significantly less with coblation tonsillectomy.

Faster recovery coblation tonsillectomy has been shown in clinical studies to speed a child's return to normal activity and diet. On average, patients return to a normal diet in 2.4 days after coblation, versus 7.6 days after routine cold steel method.

Less pain coblation tonsillectomy has also been shown to decrease pain and use of medications after the procedure.

Adenoidectomy via cobalation
Indications
Difficulty in breathing
Snoring
Obstructive sleep apnea
Rec episodes of cough old

Coblation adenoidectomy is a technique which works at a relatively low temperature to gently dissolve and/or shrink target tissue with minimal thermal damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Coblation technology provides ablation, resection, coagulation of soft tissue and hemostasis of blood vessels in one convenient surgical device.

Advantages
Complete removal of adenoids
No bleeding
Under direct endoscopic vision
No recurrence
Minimal pain with day care procedure
Faster recovery.

Hi sir/mam, I'm suffering with eye diseases Keratoconus with Right eye Is there Any treatment to cure this problem.

MBBS
General Physician, Fatehabad
Hi sir/mam, I'm suffering with eye diseases Keratoconus with Right eye Is there Any treatment to cure this problem.
Hi lybrate-user, let me suggest you both surgical and non-surgical options for your problem. 1. INTACS: Intacs are used to reshape the natural curves of the cornea to correct nearsightedness. The intacs are small segments placed between the tissue layers of the cornea. There has been much success with the use of INTACS. There are many benefits to the use of INTACS like: It is only a 10 minute procedure, You can remove them or exchange them over time, Can delay the progression of Keratoconus. 2. C3-R: C3-R also know as Corneal Collagen Cross-linking with Riboflavin is another option for Keratoconus patients. This procedure is used to strengthen the cornea. C3R has been very effective in patients with Keratoconus. Over the course of 2-3 months it continues to strengthen the cornea and stops the progression of keratoconus. In some patients it has reversed the damage caused by keratoconus. The procedure takes about 30 minuted and involves the placement of drops in the affected eye. The doctor than places a UV light on the eye to activate the drops. There is no pain or post maintenance required after the procedure. 3. CK - FOr Astigmatism: Conductive Keratoplasty- Or CK is a painless 5 minute procedure that can be done in the doctors office. This procedure has been shown to improve the vision of Keratoconus patients and reduce astigmatism. 4. Corneal Transplant: When no other treatment works and scarring has already taken place on the cornea, corneal transplant may be the only potential way to recover vision. During a corneal transplant, the doctor creates a ‘button’ of the distorted corneal tissue, removes it and the donor corneal tissue is grafted onto the eye. While a corneal transplant will relieve the symptoms of keratoconus, it may not provide you with flawless vision. You are most likely to need corrective lens for clear and there are a lot of complications which can happen. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Dear lybrate user, first of all let me make it clear that you may experience nightfalls for twice in a month if you do not have a habit of masturbation or if you do not indulge in any sexual intercourse. However, if you experience nightfalls for more than twice in a month then it is surely abnormal. Every person experience an erection after a sleep of 6-8 hours. Such an erection during waking up from sleep is a typical characteristic of normal sexual system. An uninterrupted sleep of 6-8 hours pacifies the nerves which get hyper-activated after a long day's work & results in a sexual arousal by channelising the blood flow towards the male sexual system. But an erected penis cannot ejaculate involuntarily unless it is being rubbed as it undergoes during masturbation & sexual intercourse. Involuntary ejaculation of semen indicates that the internal muscles of your pelvic region are not strong enough to control the outflow of semen. However, nightfalls indicate that you are having a normal erection as well as it also proves that there is no deficit of sperm production in testis. Nightfall implies that there is only loss of control of the pelvic muscles. It is often observed that an unmarried person suffering from nightfalls complains of premature ejaculation after marriage if his problem of nightfalls is left untreated. The cause behind such quick discharge during sex is same as it is in case of nightfalls i. E. Loss of the control of the muscles of pelvic region. To get rid of nightfalls carry on the following medication as directed:- 1) 5 drops of homoeopathic china 30 or cinchona officinalis 30, thrice daily, in empty stomach. 2) take 30 drops of homoeopathic mother tincture ashwagandha q in a cup of water daily after lunch apart from medicines you could try a home therapy. Soak 5 grams of fennel seeds (snouff) & 5 grams of rock candy (misri) in a glass of water before going to bed daily. On waking up next morning drink the snouf-misri soaked water in empty stomach.

Alzheimer's Disease - Can Surgery Help You Treat It?

Alzheimer's Disease - Can Surgery Help You Treat It?

In recent times, the advancement of medical science has substantially contributed in comprehending the Alzheimer’s disease. Unfortunately, the number of individuals suffering from the disease is expected to rise in the next ten years which pose a threat to the allocation of health care resources and public health. Alzheimer’s disease is thought to be a complex disease which influences a person’s behavior as well as cognition through numerous mechanisms.

Can surgery be deemed as a treatment for Alzheimer’s disease?
The surgery is a multicenter clinical trial which is making a new direction in clinical research. It is devised to halt or slow down the problems caused by the disease which gradually erases a lifetime of memories in elderly patients. Though there is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease, it has been found that low-voltage electric charges delivered right at the brain. Only the symptomatic therapies for Alzheimer’s disease are provided which do not have any effect on the evolution of the disease. The standard medical treatments for Alzheimer’s disease include cholinesterase inhibitors along with a partial N-methyl D-aspartate antagonist. In most cases of mild to moderate symptoms of this disease, a combination of treatments is used according to the clinical history, age and condition of the patient.

Mental activity supporting cognition
Many patients having normal cognition or mild impairment have a fear that they may develop AD. Many experts are of the opinion that mentally challenging activities including brain teasers and crossword puzzles can be helpful in reducing the risks in such patients. Clinical trials are under the way for determining whether or not these types of activities have any substantial effect on halting the progression of AD.

Treating AD in its moderate to the severe stage
Numerous studies have shown that blockade of NMDA receptors by memantine can be used safely in combination with ChEls. This combination has been shown to delay the institutionalization in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

Treating secondary symptoms
A variety of behavioral as well as pharmacologic interventions can help in overcoming the clinical manifestations of the disease. These include anxiety, psychotic behavior, depression and agitation among others. The effectiveness of this disease can range from modest to excellent. No particular agent or dose of it can be unanimously accepted to be the sole treatment option for the wide range of clinical issues. Moreover, in the recent time, the FDA has not accepted any psychotropic agent for treating AD.

Along with these treatment options, there are behavioral interventions that can range from patient-centred approaches to caregiver training for helping manage the cognitive and behavioral manifestations of Alzheimer’s disease. Last but not the least, it is very crucial to point out the significance of treatment in the early stages of AD in order to cure it better. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
