These are the causes of greying of hair: • improper Diet (Malnutrition) • Due to other skin diseases (Dandruff, Leucoderma etc) • Stress • Due to medicines • Use of chemical products (hair gel, colours) • Due to pollution For prevention from greying of hairs follow these instructions : • Do not take stress and take proper sleep of 6 - 7 hours .Do meditation or long breathing pranayams for 10 minutes daily to destress yourself . • You can apply amla powder , Make the paste of amla powder with water and apply it for 15 minutes once in week in afternoon and rinse it . • Avoid use of excess hair products such as hair colours and try to use mild shampoo . • Add protein containing items in your foods such as take a bowl of cereal daily ,and a glass of milk also .You can eat cheese or soya protein . • Eat healthy fruits and green leafy vegetables daily. • you can use mahabhringraj oil and apply it 3 times in a week massage your scalp for 10 to 15 minutes daily .you can massage daily with oil it increase blood circulation and prevent hair from greying . • Avoid the use of products such as hair colours or excessive shampoo . •In a bowl, mix two eggs, honey and some coconut oil. I am 24 years girl. My question is regarding my diet I am fasting for 9 days as my weight has gained so Wat should be my diet during these fasting days and boiled potatoes wil be fatty for me so what should I prefer. And I am having hypothyroidism TSH 6.57.

Hi First: medicines are mandatory. Otherwise ypu might have weight gain, muscle ache, sleep and anxiety issues as well as gynaecological and cardiac issues later. You need to get an USG neck done  and an FNAC USG guided of thyroid gland. FT3/FT4/TSH If ypu have already done these tests Share on Lybrate I can help you better. Any history of alcohol  intake /fatty food /sugary food How much exercise do you get done every day? Ideally you should be doing a good mix of cardio, weights and crossfit  exercises to keep you healthy Together  with a balanced diet with optimum  healthy fat protein and carbs. Avoid  deep fried fatty food and fast food. No soft drinks /sugary drinks. I am outlining  food you should avoid or restrict in Hypothyroidism. It's important  you maintain  your body weight exercise regularly. Weight gain increases thyroid hormone requirements. Avoid cruciferous   group of veggies  like cabbage and broccoli. Avoid soya bean in all forms. No soya, nugget, chunk, tofu or milk. Limit their intake: Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, turnips, and bok choy. Cooking the vegetables can reduce the effect that cruciferous vegetables have on the thyroid gland. Limiting your intake to 5 ounces a day appears to have no adverse effect on thyroid function. Decrease gluten  intake from processed  food. Always try whole grain varieties of cereals which is rich in fibres and help improve  bowels (Take your thyroid replacement  medicine several hours before or several hours after food rich in fibres. Otherwise problem  with absorption  of hormone. 20 to 35 gram of fibres daily from all sources. Avoid excessive fatty (deep fried) and sugary food as hypothyroidism  causes your metabolism  to slow down &weight gain. Avoid highly salted food, chips, pickles, sauces as they Contain  large amount of sodium. Hypothyroidism  puts you at risk of high BP and excess sodium in salt aggravates Coffee  in excess. And coffee with thyroid hormone  replacement  can prevent absorption. Alcohol. It is toxic to thyroid gland and prevents  hormone production and absorption. The problems of hypothyroidism gets better with medicines, diet and exercise. You will start better as the levels of your hormone normalises. Initially you need to do the TSH test every 6 weeks till normal TSH then every 3 months As your thyroid hormone status normalises you will find it easier to shed weight. Fasting occasionally is okay but not as a weight decreasing method. Exercise. Walk/run/yoga/weight training 30 minutes every day. 50gram protein atleast one source of protein with every meal. No deep fried junk food sugary drinks, cola, excessive fatty food. You can have one cheat treat a day. Hope this helps Take care

This is a case of General Anxiety of fearing for situations and problems which might not even occur in future. For relieving stress, we suggest you take Relaxation therapy like Jacobson Progressive muscle relaxation therapy. Also we use Cognitive Drill therapy which is a unique therapy used for phobias, anxiety, panic attacks (more info on jainhypnosis.com) for which you can seek session from any CDT trained therapist. The therapy helps to break this habit formation and reduces stress and anxiety.

Head pain very badly from childhood I have showed it to many doctors but still it's the same.

MBBS
General Physician, Fatehabad
Head pain very badly from childhood I have showed it to many doctors but still it's the same.
Hi lybrate-user, Ayurveda classifies many headaches according to which dosha (or subtle energy principle) is out of balance in your body-mind: vata, pitta, or kapha. Vata Headache If you have throbbing, pulsating, migrating pain in the back of your head, you have a vata headache. Neck and shoulder tension, back stiffness, and signs of toxicity in the colon (like constipation), and unresolved fear and anxiety can contribute to this type of pain. What to do: At bedtime, boil one teaspoon of powdered haritaki in a cup of water, then drink. Gently massage your neck with warm vacha (calamus) root oil, lie down with your nostrils parallel to the ceiling, and put five drops of lukewarm sesame oil in each nostril for a vata-calming nasya treatment (nasal oil therapy). Pitta Headache If your headache starts in your temples and spreads to the central part of your head, you can trace your problem back to pitta-related imbalances in the stomach and intestines (such as acid indigestion, hyperacidity, or heartburn) and/ or unresolved anger or irritability. Pitta headaches are characterized by shooting, burning, piercing, or penetrating pain, and may be associated with nausea, dizziness, and/or a burning sensation in the eyes. These symptoms are worsened by bright light, hot sun, or high temperatures, or by eating sour fruits, pickles, or spicy food. What to do: Because these headaches are related to imbalances in the stomach and intestines, eat pitta-pacifying foods like cucumbers, cilantro, and dates. Take two tablespoons of aloe vera gel three times a day, and put three drops of plain, warm ghee (clarified butter) in each nostril at bedtime. Then rub warm coconut oil on the soles of your feet and scalp and enjoy a deep, rejuvenating sleep. Kapha Headache If your headache occurs in winter or spring, strikes in the morning or evening, is accompanied by a cough or a runny nose, or gets worse when you bend down, you have a kapha headache. Usually dull and deep-seated, the pain starts in the upper frontal area of the skull, moves down to the forehead, and can creep into the sinuses. Sinus congestion, colds, flus, hay fever, and other allergies cause kapha headaches. What to do: Take one-half teaspoon of sitopaladi powder three times a day with honey. Then put one drop of eucalyptus oil in a bowl of hot water, cover your head with a towel, and inhale the steam to clear your sinuses. Most headaches can be relieved by using ayurvedic remedies, but if you have a headache that persists for more than a couple of days; if it’s accompanied by a fever or a stiff neck; if you also experience neurological symptoms such as blurred vision, difficulty with coordination or speech, memory loss, numbness, or weakness in your arms or legs; if you wake up at midnight with a headache and need to vomit; if your headache is due to an ear infection, TMJ, meningitis, or spinal arthritis; or if you are having frequent headaches that seem to be getting more severe, please see a doctor. Headaches can also flare up due to ear problems, eye problems, insomnia, food allergies, wrong diet, too much traveling, unhealthy relationships, pent-up emotions, exposure to cold temperatures, neck tension, or working too long (for instance, in front of a computer) with poor posture. Even sleeping on two pillows can give you a headache! Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Bad breath can be reduced or prevented if you: practice good oral hygiene. Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to remove food debris and plaque. Don't forget to brush the tongue, too. Replace your toothbrush every 2 to 3 months or after an illness. Use floss or an interdental cleaner to remove food particles and plaque between teeth once a day. See your dentist regularly -- at least twice a year. He or she will conduct an oral exam and professional teeth cleaning and will be able to detect and treat periodontal disease, dry mouth, or other problems that may be the cause of bad mouth odor. Drink lots of water. This will keep your mouth moist. Chewing gum (preferably sugarless) stimulates the production of saliva, which helps wash away food particles and bacteria.

Hi I am having small small white patches in my hand near, is it vitiligo? If its vitiligo is control able in early stages? By which test I can find I am having vitiligo?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Bangalore
There is only one way to ascertain vitiligo and that is by examining the area. You have to visit a doctor in person for this. And yes. Vitiligo is curable during the initial stages. Even in advanced stages it is curable but it is difficult if the patches are wide spread. In your case let us first diagnose the condition and then decide on the treatment.

This is a general low back ache and for this you can follow these measures: one keep a pillow right under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5--10 minutes, if pain still persists you can stretch your body by twisting the waist on both sides how we used to do in the school drill similarly you can try which will help you relax as well will reduce the pain. It looks like you are anaemic. If you have back pain after you sit for long hours then it is due to your haemoglobin levels as it is important to check that. Anaemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having back / leg pain though there may not be any pathological reasons for back pain.

MS - Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gurgaon
Dear deepak, more than knowing laser machine what you ought to know more is that at 44 yrs apart from distance vision you would be needing near vision glasses too. So LASIK for distance will only eliminate need for distance vision but need for near vision might remain.

On my face many pimples and dark circles I want clean them so what is the answer.
Pimples or acne is caused when Hair follicles in your skin gets clogged due to oil, dirt, bacteria or dead skin. Acne generally occurs in people with oily skin but other factors like dead skin, dirt, pollution or hormonal imbalance can also cause acne in people with normal skin. Acne can be reduced or controlled by including some habits in your daily life style. 1. Keep your skin clean – Wash your face daily with an oil control face wash. You can also use a good AHA glow face wash that not only controls oil but also removes dead skin and bacteria. By shedding the old dead skin, your skin feels rejuvenated and clean. Apply a good toner, like tea tree toner after washing your face. After toning, apply an oil free and non- comedogenic cream on face. Last but not the least, apply a good sunscreen with minimum 30 spf daily. 1.Face packs – Occasionally apply good oil controlling face packs. Multani mitti + Lemon + yogurt is a good face packs for oily skin beauties. You can apply organic apple cider for 5 minutes after washing your face to kill the bacteria that clogs your pores. Green Tea can also be used as a toner once a day. 2.Diet – Most important thing is diet. Eat fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables daily. Reduce junk food intake, colas, alcohol and soda and consume whole grains. Keeping your digestive system healthy keeps your body and blood toxins free. Drink green tea, lemon juice, orange juice and food items containing Vitamin C as it is responsible for maintaining good skin health. Drink at least 10 glasses of water every day. 3.Exercise – Exercises, yoga, suryanamaskar improves the blood circulation and balances hormones. They keep skin healthy and boost body’s immunity to deal with several issues and not just acne. Include it in your daily regime.
