Hi doctor my name isAmrutanshu Tarsuliya I'm from Jabalpur (Mp) My age is 20 and I'm suffering from genetic hair loss problem as my father is also blad my crown area hair has become very thicker and scalp is showing I want to regrow my hairs so please can you tell me any treatment or medicine.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
In order to have healthy volume of hair on your head, the rate of hair loss and replacement should be in tandem. With age, your hair growth cycle shows signs of slowing down and factors like age, disease, and hormonal changes among others affect the pace at which an individual hair follicle moves through the 3 phases of the hair cycle. A disruption in your hair cycle can give rise to loss of hair that’s rapid and unexpected. Hair loss or alopecia can affect both men and women. So what can cause your hair to fall at an alarming rate? The reasons behind hair loss could be many, but here are 6 major ones: 1. Lack of protein in your diet When you exclude protein from your diet, your body starts to conserve the protein that it has by altering the growth cycle of your hair. In such cases, your hair enters into the resting stage, resulting in zero hair growth. In India, 9 out of 10 people are said to suffer from low amounts of protein in their diet, with 91% vegetarians reporting protein deficiency. 2. Iron deficiency Iron plays a very important role in the transportation of oxygen to the different organs of the body. Lack of iron in your diet (which is the principle reason behind anaemia) can give rise to several health problems including hair loss. Your body attempts to direct oxygen to important organs so as to support their functioning. As a result, your scalp witnesses a low supply of oxygen, which causes hair loss. 3. Vitamin D-3 deficiency Deficiency of vitamin D-3 gives rise to a type of hair loss called Telogen Effluvium (TE). This is a temporary hair thinning phenomenon that takes place when the all the hair on your scalp enter the resting phase at the same time, subsequently causing you to shed a large amount of hair later on. 4. Smoking Smoking can also affect the health of your hair, especially the rate at which it falls and the number of strands lost in a day. A research carried out by the Harvard School of Public Health has revealed that smoking can cause a rise in a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). An increase in DHT level prevents new hair cells from growing and causes hair follicles to reduce in size with each hair cycle. As a result, the area on your scalp that gets affected by DHT experiences a lack of hair growth. 5. Use of testosterone supplements in gym Intake of testosterone in the form of supplements and injections to build muscle mass can trigger hair loss in men. This takes place when the testosterone in these supplements gets changed into DHT, thereby affecting your hair loss rate and amount. 6. Past illnesses (dengue, TB and typhoid) Falling of hair can also be brought on by illnesses such as typhoid, TB and dengue as the hair growth cycle comes to a stop. Hormonal or metabolic stress that is experienced during the course of such diseases may cause hairfall. What are the treatments available to cure hair loss? 1. Hair transplant Hair transplant is a minimally invasive surgical technique that transfers hair follicles taken from other parts of your body to the balding area. Known by the name of Follicular Unit Transplantation, this hair loss treatment can help to bring back the natural appearance of a fuller head of hair. Hair follicles are harvested using two procedures- follicular unit extraction and strip harvesting. Procedure can vary from 4-8 hours or more depending on the case. 2. Platelet- Rich Plasma (PRP) Platelet- Rich Plasma (PRP) is another treatment alternative that can reverse hair loss. It’s a simple non-surgical procedure that lasts about 60-90 minutes. In this form of hair treatment, the patient’s own blood cells, more specifically blood platelets are injected into the scalp. Usually 8 sittings are required with each sitting being 2 weeks apart for better results. 3. Low Level Laser (Light) Therapy (LLLT) This form of hair therapy utilises light energy of a specific wavelength and threshold to stimulate cellular activity, thereby promoting hair growth. Various controlled clinical tests have revealed its effectiveness in encouraging hair growth in both the genders.

Diet For Kidney Stone Patient

M.Sc. in Dietetics and Food Service Management , Post Graduate Diploma In Computer Application, P.G.Diploma in Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics , B.Sc.Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Diet For Kidney Stone Patient

Based on the type of kidney stone you had, you may be able to prevent kidney stones by making changes in how much sodium, animal protein, calcium, or oxalate is in the food you eat.

You may need to change what you eat and drink for these types of kidney stones:

  1. Calcium oxalate stones
  2. Calcium phosphate stones
  3. Uric acid stones
  4. Cystine stones

1. Calcium oxalate stones:

If you’ve had calcium oxalate stones, you may want to avoid these foods to help reduce the amount of oxalate in your urine:

  • Nuts and nut products
  • Peanuts—which are legumes, not nuts, and are high in oxalate
  • Rhubarb
  • Spinach
  • Wheat bran

#reduce sodium

Your chance of developing kidney stones increases when you eat more sodium. Sodium is a part of salt. Sodium is in many canned, packaged, and fast foods. It is also in many condiments, seasonings, and meats.

#limit animal protein

Eating animal protein may increase your chances of developing kidney stones.

  • Limit eating animal protein, including
  • Beef, chicken, and pork, especially organ meats
  • Eggs
  • Fish and shellfish
  • Milk, cheese, and other dairy products

Although you may need to limit how much animal protein you eat each day, you still need to make sure you get enough protein. Consider replacing some of the meat and animal protein you would typically eat with beans, dried peas, and lentils, which are plant-based foods that are high in protein and low in oxalate.

Get enough calcium from foods

Even though calcium sounds like it would be the cause of calcium stones, it’s not. In the right amounts, calcium can block other substances in the digestive tract that may cause stones. It may be best to get calcium from low-oxalate, plant-based foods such as calcium-fortified juices, cereals, breads, some kinds of vegetables, and some types of beans.

2. Calcium phosphate stones:

Reduce sodium: Your chance of developing kidney stones increases when you eat more sodium. Sodium is a part of salt. Sodium is in many canned, packaged, and fast foods. It is also in many condiments, seasonings, and meats.

Limit animal protein: Eating animal protein may increase your chances of developing kidney stones.

Limit eating animal protein, including Beef, chicken, and pork, especially organ meats eggs fish and shellfish milk, cheese, and other dairy products. Although you may need to limit how much animal protein you have each day, you still need to make sure you get enough protein.

Consider replacing some of the meat and animal protein you would typically eat with some of these plant-based foods that are high in protein:
1. Legumes such as beans, dried peas, lentils, and peanuts
2. Soy foods, such as soy milk, soy nut butter, and tofu
3. Nuts and nut products, such as 4. Almonds and almond butter, cashews and cashew butter, walnuts, and 5. Pistachios
6. Sunflower seeds

Get enough calcium from foods

Even though calcium sounds like it would be the cause of calcium stones, it’s not. In the right amounts, calcium can block other substances in the digestive tract that may lead to stones. Talk with a health care professional about how much calcium you should eat to help prevent getting more calcium phosphate stones and to support strong bones. It may be best to get calcium from plant-based foods such as calcium-fortified juices, cereals, breads, some kinds of vegetables, and some types of beans. Ask a dietitian or other health care professional which foods are the best sources of calcium for you.

3. Uric acid stones:

Limit animal protein
Eating animal protein may increase your chances of developing kidney stones.

A health care professional may tell you to limit eating animal protein, including
Beef, chicken, and pork, especially organ meats eggs fish and shellfish milk, cheese, and other dairy products
Although you may need to limit how much animal protein you have each day, you still need to make sure you get enough protein.

Consider replacing some of the meat and animal protein you would typically eat with some of these plant-based foods that are high in protein:

Legumes such as beans, dried peas, lentils, and peanuts
Soy foods, such as soy milk, soy nut butter, and tofu
Nuts and nut products, such as almonds and almond butter, cashews and cashew butter, walnuts, and pistachios
Sunflower seeds

Talk with a health care professional about how much total protein you should eat and how much should come from animal or plant-based foods.

Losing weight if you are overweight is especially important for people who have had uric acid stones.

4. Cystine stones:

Drinking enough liquid, mainly water, is the most important lifestyle change you can make to prevent cystine stones. Talk with a health care professional about how much liquid you should drink.

Tips to reduce your sodium intake: Adults should aim to consume less than 2, 300 mg a day. 3 one teaspoon of table salt has 2, 325 milligrams (mg) of sodium. If you have had calcium oxalate or calcium phosphate stones, you should follow this guideline, even if you take medicine to prevent kidney stones.

Here are some tips to help you reduce your sodium intake:

Check the percent daily value (%dv) for sodium on the nutrition facts label found on many foods. Low in sodium is 5% or less, and high in sodium is 20% or more.

  • Image of a nutrition label
  • Consider writing down how much sodium you consume each day.
  • When eating out, ask about the sodium content in the food.
  • Cook from scratch. Avoid processed and fast foods, canned soups.

Look for foods labeled: sodium free, salt free, very low sodium, low sodium, reduced or less sodium, light in sodium, no salt added, unsalted, and lightly salted.

  • Check labels for ingredients and hidden sodium, such as sodium bicarbonate, the chemical name for baking soda
  • Baking powder, which contains sodium bicarbonate and other chemicals
  • Disodium phosphate
  • Monosodium glutamate, or msg
  • Sodium alginate
  • Sodium nitrate or nitrite.

Hello, bad smell from mouth could be because of deposits or food lodgement between teeth. Visit a dentist and get your scaling and polishing done. It could also be because of cold, acidity, stomach problems, not drinking enough water, not eating or fasting for long intervals. Brush twice daily, floss regularly. You can avoid it by rinsing after every 1-2 hours.

I'm having a scar for past 6 years on ma shoulder. I got that when I fall on road. Can you tell me how to remove.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
There are powerful homemade treatments used to remove accident scars naturally without causing any side effects to the skin. 1. mix curd or frozen milk and turmeric. Frozen milk is a good exfoliating agent and it nourishes your skin and leaves your skin glowing once you wash off the paste. If you have a sensitive skin then you can add a few drops of lemon juice and rose water. Facial scars from accidents can be easily removed by using the above mentioned natural home remedies. 2. you can also use the one part of baking soda with two part of water to create a paste. Baking soda is a natural exfoliator and helps in the gentle scraping of the scar tissue layer by layer. Scrub (avoid vigorous rubbing) this paste on your scars for a minute or two and after that you can rinse it off with cold water. 3. Mint juice is also effective to remove old accident scars. You can use the juice of mint on your face leave it for 5 minutes and wash that off. If you are doing the same procedure for a month then you can see visible results. The old accident scars will become lighter in color on regular usage. It is a good practice to apply vitamin E oil on car accident facial scars to fade out spots and scars. Use it before going to sleep every day.

lybrate-user, Thanks for te query. Your blood glucose is under fair control. Ideally FBG should be <100 mg, PP 160 to 180 mg & HbA1c%<7. Looking at your details, there may be no need to increase the dose, provided you increase the amount of exercise being done by a few minutes and reduce the food intake by about just 10 %. That will definitely bring blood glucose levels down by a considerable level. Increase the intake of green leafy vegetables and salads. That will help. If you have any other doubts please do come back. Thanks.

I am 23 year old female I had a problem of bleed gums and decaying of tooth and gum that to four front lower tooth .please suggest me how to cure this?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
- use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water or hydrogen peroxide to keep the area clean. Avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums. - eat a balanced diet and limit snacking between meals. Carbohydrates and sugars feed dental plaque. - try an oral irrigation device, commonly known as a" water pick, to clear debris from around the gum line. - you may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser.
