I have a desk job and in last few months my weight has gone from 60 to 75 kgs. I want to lose my weight, what should ...
Hello, It's good to reduce weight at right time as many problems are directly related to overweight! Remember, there's no magic bullet for weight loss. The key to losing weight is burning more calories than you consume. Choose a variety of healthy foods — such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean sources of protein — and include physical activity in your daily routine. Go through the following general guidelines and implement them in your routine: Management: 1: Drink plenty of water (at least 2-3 l/d) or other calorie-free beverages. 2: Be choosy about nighttime snacks. 3: Enjoy your favorite foods. 4: Have 6 meals per day - 3 main courses and 3 snack meals (snack meals should be healthy). 5: Do regular exercises daily (start with light and later may be little vigorous) . Exercise decreases the stress hormone in your body, burns calories and also increases the blood circulation. Preferably brisk walking, swimming, cycling, skipping. 6: Eat seasonal fruits. Fruit helps to satisfy your sweet tooth thanks to its natural sugars, while fresh vegetables help you fill up more quickly. Fruits and vegetables contain fiber to help you feel full quickly. 7: Eat more whole grains and cut simple carbs. Whole wheat bread, oatmeal, whole wheat pasta, sweet potato, and brown rice are all excellent sources of energy and sources of nutrition. 8: Choose lean proteins instead of fatty ones. 9: Cut the salt from your diet. Eating more sodium causes your body to retain water, which can cause you to feel bloated and gain more weight. 10: Don't skip meals. When you skip meals, your body stops breaking down fat and starts breaking down muscle tissue. Muscle tissue burns more calories at rest than other tissues, so you're actually working against your goals 11: Eat at home. Going out to eat makes it too easy to cheat. Food sold at restaurants is commonly much higher in fat, sodium, and other weight-loss killers. 12: Give yourself a treat now and then. If you're attending a party or going out for a special occasion, allow yourself an indulgence. Just make sure that these indulgences don't become daily habits. 13: Go for a health walk. Gear up yourself daily for a health walk which not only shed off your extra calorie, but also reduces the stress levels. 14: Take small frequent breaks for a quick walk in between as sitting for long hours together encourages the accumulation of fat in the body! Medication: Take homoeopathic medicine - Schwabe's Phytolacca Berry tablets/ thrice daily 1/2 an hr before the meals for 3 months. Thereafter revert me back for further guidance. (Slow and steady weight loss is good. As we all know when you lose weight fast, it seems to jump right back on, whereas when you lose weight steadily over time because of changes to your diet and balancing your hormones out it tends to stay off.) All the best!

Although hair loss is not a life threatening condition but it can be a source of constant stress and worry in the persons affected by it. A person suffering from hair loss possesses lower self esteem and self confidence levels, and also feels embarrassed when in company of other people. Homeopathy can very efficiently deal with cases of hair loss, and produce excellent results. In homeopathy, a huge number of wonderful medicines are present that are used to tackle hair loss cases. Every kind of hair loss (ranging from hair loss due to anemia / nutritional deficiencies, due to skin disorders, due to mental / physical trauma, due to childbirth or menopause, after acute diseases, to alopecia areata, alopecia totalis or androgenetic alopecia) can be treated with the help of well selected homeopathic medicines. To treat hair loss through homeopathy detail case history of the patient needs to be studied. The cause and site of hair loss are to be noted down along with the constitutional symptoms of the patient which are given prime importance in any kind of case of hair loss. The constitutional symptoms include the eating habits, level of thirst, thermals, mental symptom etc. And these are to be given top position in forming the totality of symptoms while case taking. After the case has been properly evaluated, the case homeopathic medicine is administered to the patient.

Increased thirst, increased hunger, urinary frequency more than 2 times in the night are a few main symptom of diabetes. It is good that you have become diet cautious and started doing. Fasting/ pps were done how many times 6 months back. Hba1c is a very important 3 monthly sugar test to check out the sugar control level. Please go for a proper screening for fbs, pps, rft, lipid profile, hba1c and serum electrolytes without delay and let the results be evaluated properly for establishing diabetes and its complications and if necessary, proper treatment of diabetes.

I had to move to a different city for studying in a college. I'm a single child and my parents are very over protective about me. Thats why my mother decided to come with me and stay together in a rented house. My mom is a house wife and dad has his business back home. Although dad keeps vising for a good 10-15 dats every month, yet mom has to stay alone in d house d rest of d days when dad isnt around. Every time dad leaves, my mom kees crying the entire day and stays very irritated. She creates a scene and scolds me over trivial reasons. She loves me a lot and doesnt let me do anything on my own. She doesnt even let me go to college and come home alone. She drops me and picks me up as well. She is skeptical about me going anywhere outside college campus with my friends. Although i avoid going out with friends but on some days i have to go out in order to participate in extra curricular activities of college. On such days, my mother would be very concerned and would worry a lot. My mother has diabetes, high blood pressure etc and if she takes tension it adversely affects her health. Sumtimes she drops me to college and den i go out of college meet friends and den come back to college. I dont like the way she tries to control my life. From what i eat to what i ear and everything else she controls me.I hv told her that i can stay in a hostel but she says she cant live without me and also that i cant take care if myself. When dad is away she keeps calling dad all the time which makes dad feel guilty as well. We tell her something as to how she can keep herself busy with books or exercise or some creative classes. We tell her that she needs to give me some space and that i'm not a 10 year old anymore. But when we say all this, she cries or gets angry and her blood pressure gets high etc. She has sacrificed a lot for the family but she needs to understand that each one us are also individuals and we all need to have a life of our own. I feel like running away somewhere or just dying. Right now each one of us is frustrated. What do i do?

You all need family therapy. Your mom?s mothering is smothering, isn?t it? She is refusing to cut the apron strings even now! I like that she loves you so much but it should not stifle your growth and independence. All people, and particularly children seek Permission and Protection to grow, develop, and become independent. It is not the equal use of both but a discrete use of one over the other for the singular purpose of growing up and away of the dependent person. You must talk to the college counselor and get him/her to intervene. But the greatest proof would be for her to see that you are a responsible person by the way you conduct your life and studies. Now I know it could turn out to be ?a chicken or the egg? situation, where you may feel justified that you can?t be responsible without the provision of that kind of opportunity or permission. However, do not get into that futile argument but prove yourself to her. Then talk to dad too and get him to assure her. She obviously gets worked up over little or no reason, which is why she may have all those medical complications. Someone has to become firm and take a strong stance. It all sounds good on the surface but what she is inadvertently doing is stifling your growth and self-confidence. I do not recommend that you do sneaky things behind her back because that is no solution to over-protective parents. This whole manner will disturb your healthy development. Parents? love must ensure the healthy personality formation while they are in charge. At a certain age that is relinquished to enable independence. So you must do something either through the college (try the counselor or the principal), through dad, and of course through your responsible behavior. A professional will also help by reminding your mom to sever the umbilical cord. So it is all up to you to maneuver, in a gracious manner, this healthy outcome for your own good. Let me know how it goes. I am fully with you, and would love to be of some help. Let?s see what initiative you take. The single child status does not help at all for these reasons, particularly.

What are the common causes of Back Pain?

Doctor Of Physical Therapy (DPT), Bachelor of Physical Therapy
Physiotherapist, Bangalore
What are the common causes of Back Pain?

What are the common causes of back pain?

Back pain can be caused by one or combination of several factors.
Some of these are:

Muscle or ligament sprain
This can occur due to poor posture, repeated heavy lifting, sudden awkward movement.

Bulging or herniated disc (slipped disc)
Discs are like cushions between our spinal verbrae which absorb shock. Due to repeated stress or sudden awkward force the disc material can bulge or protrude and press on nerve. Bulging discs may not painful and pain is mostly when it presses or irritates a nerve coming out of the spine.
Problems of the disc are called spondylosis.
Cervical spondylosis (neck area)
Thoracic spondylosis (upper and mid back area)
Lumbar spondylosis (low back area)

Arthritis
Osteoarthritis (degeneration of joints in the spine) can occur due to excessive stress on spine and also as we age.

Osteoporosis
This causes thinning and weakening of the bones in the spine.
The bone density and calcium is low and the risk of fractures is higher in people having osteoporosis.

Deformities of the spine
Abnormal curvature of the spine from birth or developed later in life can cause back pain.
Scoliosis, kyphosis etc.

It is very important to find the cause of the pain as treatment approaches are different depending on the problem. Knowing the root cause helps to create awareness that can prevent it from recurring.

Hello lybrate-user. You can consult to any Psychologist of Your near by area r side by side go for regular counselling session. Meanwhile I can suggest to some tips for overcome pls try. The only way out is through. It sounds counter-intuitive, but as someone who has dealt with social anxiety, I've found this statement to be true. It's natural to avoid anxiety or to deny its existence all together, but recovery comes in accepting it. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, relaxation and wellness, I've been able to address my anxiety head-on this past year. While I'm not sure it can ever be completely "cured" a holistic approach can certainly help manage and reduce it. Here's my advice: 1. Educate yourself: Learn the physiological causes and effects of anxiety. Your symptoms/feelings stem from your fears, your thoughts, and your body's own fight-or-flight response (an antiquated alarm system left over from our cavemen ancestors). Though the adrenaline rush is uncomfortable, these feelings are not harmful by themselves and cannot be sustained for very long either. So, though your heart may be racing, that's okay. You're safe and in no real danger. Think about this: If you've had an anxiety attack, you've likely already experienced the worst your body can feel. Don't be bluffed by physical feelings. 2. Relax & take care of yourself: Learn to recognize when you're feeling anxious and take the necessary steps to relax and take care of yourself (this includes identifying common triggers like alcohol, sleep, and caffeine). To reduce anxiety in the moment, try deep belly breathing or mindfulness meditation. Both of these help calm the adrenal response. To relieve more long-term tension, try progressive muscle relaxation or vigorous exercise. The main idea is to acquire tools to calm yourself whenever anxiety strikes, so you can more easily cope.  Think about this: Your body is a machine like any other. If you take care of it, it'll take care of you. 3. Question your thoughts: Learn to judge your thoughts critically instead of accepting them as facts. Your thoughts, more than anything, affect how you feel and ultimately your perspective of the world. People with anxiety often have an intensely negative view. They overestimate the likelihood of something bad happening, exaggerate the consequences, and underestimate their ability to cope. So check your thoughts. What evidence do you have? What are the odds of this happening? What would a friend say to you? Think about this: Just because you think something does not make it true. You're not a fortune teller, a mind-reader or the center of the universe. Try to see things in a more balanced way and you'll feel better. 4. Behave courageously: Learn to face your anxiety despite the fear. This is obviously the hardest part, but it's also the way out. Anxiety has a way of chipping away at self-esteem. It'll make you think you can't do THIS or you can't do THAT. It's easy to get stuck in this cycle of fear. But you can face your fears a little each day, and eventually, work toward your bigger goals. It doesn't matter how small the initial steps are. Instead of dread, try being curious in these new scenarios and use your coping skills. It's not about being free of anxiety in these early moments, but enduring despite the anxious feelings. This is how real change happens.  By taking small steps each day, you can rebuild your confidence. You're a lot stronger than you think you are. Don't let anxiety dictate your life. Thank You All The Best.

Migraine - Causes, Symptoms And its Ayurvedic Treatments

In modern days, migraine has become a common disease that affects the young and the old equally. Migraine as such cannot be cured, but improving lifestyle and Ayurvedic medication can help you keep this disease under control and improve your quality of life.

What is Migraine?
Migraine, commonly known as Sooryavarta in Ayurveda, is a medical condition in which the excessive stimulation of the blood vessels in the brain causes a throbbing pain on one side of the head and is associated with nausea, sensitivity and vomiting. This happens because the vomiting centre of the brain gets activated during an episode. These symptoms are the most common signs; however, it varies from person to person.

What Causes Migraines?
These headaches worsen upon sunrise and it is at its peak at noon, when the sun is at its highest intensity and slowly subsides on sunset. This is one of the major factors in setting in an episode; it is not true in every case.

The other triggers that cause migraine attacks according to Ayurveda are:

  1. Spicy and oily food
  2. Stress, anger, grief, jealousy
  3. Suppressed emotions or natural urges
  4. Indigestion
  5. Consumption of too much of dry, salty and pungent food
  6. Consuming polluted food

General triggers may include:

  1. Smoking and drinking
  2. Stress
  3. Fasting
  4. Physical stress and exercise
  5. Fluctuation in hormone levels during the menstrual cycle or the use of birth control pills
  6. Stopping intake of tea or coffee suddenly
  7. Stress to sensory organs in the form of bright noises, bright lights, strong perfumes or odours etc.

Certain foods or beverages may also trigger an episode of migraine. These include baked foods, chocolates, processed foods, spicy foods, onions, dairy products and peanuts. These kinds of foods are known to suddenly increase Kapha dosha or Pitta Dosha and as a result, trigger an attack.

Symptoms of Migraine-
It is usually characterised by a stinging, throbbing pain on one side of the head and is followed by nausea and vomiting. Some people may get visual aberrations called an aura- such as blind spots, blurred visions, distorted lines etc.

Ayurvedic medications that can help migraine are:

  1. Indian licorice – Glycyrrhiza glabra
  2. Sariva – Hemidesmus indicus
  3. Hareetaki – Chebulic myrobalan-Terminalia chebula
  4. Amalaki – amala – Emblica officinalis
  5. Mallika – Jasminum officinale
  6. Hareetaki – Chebulic myrobalan-Terminalia chebula
  7. Bala – Sida cordifolia
  8. Kumari – Aloe vera
  9. Sariva – Hemidesmus indicus

Simple home remedies useful in migraine:

  1. Tender leaves of jasmine or tender leaves of pomegranate are taken along with a pinch of salt and crushed well to obtain fresh juice. Early in the morning, preferably in empty stomach, 2-3 drops of this fresh juice is instilled to both the nostrils. Procedure is repeated once again evening hours (6-7 pm). This reduces the severity of headache in migraine.
  2. One fist full of Doorva grass (cynodan dactylon) is taken and its fresh juice is obtained. To this, 2 pinch of licorice powder is added and mixed well. This is consumed during the noon hours. Procedure is repeated for 20-30 days. This helps to reduce the severity of illness significantly.
  3. Take coriander seed powder – 1 teaspoon. add it to one cup of water, leave it as it is at night, next day morning, drink it on empty stomach.
  4. Soak 5 raisins and 5 almonds in water at night, next day morning, eat them. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ayurveda and ask a free question.
