Hi lybrate-user, Dark spots are a common skin problem found mainly in young adults. Treating dark spots at home with natural remedies is easy and can be done with things you already have. Try any of the following methods to see which one works the best for you to remove unsightly dark spots from the skin. 1. Lemon Juice: Lemon juice could possibly be the best remedy for getting rid of dark spots that are caused for any reason. Lemon juice is naturally acidic and contains bleaching agents that will fade the dark pigment found in dark spots on the skin. All that is needed is fresh lemon juice applied to a cotton ball and then the affected area. This should be left on for twenty minutes and then rinsed with cool water. Repeating this method two times a day for two months will show your dark spots to disappear without a trace. 2. Aloe Vera: Aloe has long been known for its healing properties of the skin. It has long been known to treat cases of sunburn, but did you also know that it is excellent in getting rid of dark spots and healing stings? Fresh aloe (preferably from the plant) should be rubbed on the dark spot and left for about an hour. Rinse this off with cold water and repeat twice a day for a month. 3. Butter Milk: Buttermilk is great for the skin and has been used for years as a natural beauty agent. It contains lactic acid which is very beneficial to the skin. Buttermilk applied directly to the skin with a cotton swab will help tremendously with black spots. All that is needed is the application, wait a couple minutes, and then rinse. It’s really that easy. If you have acne or are prone to oily skin then mixing a little lemon juice to the buttermilk will work great. Adding tomato juice to the buttermilk is also recommended and highly beneficial. 4. Onion Juice: This unlikely home remedy is not only used as a great hair tonic, but is also extremely beneficial for dark spots on the skin. Red onion actually acts as a bleaching agent because it is highly acidic in nature. You can rub some raw onion directly onto dark spots on the skin and you will definitely see a difference in their appearance. If you don’t want to rub raw onions on your face, no one’s really going to blame you. You can instead combine one tablespoon of onion juice with two tablespoons of honey and apply this to your dark spots for about twenty minutes. Don’t forget to always wash the area really well that you’ve used the onion remedy on. It must be done to remove the powerful smell. 5. Sugar Cubes: If you’ve got some sugar cubes lying around the kitchen and you’re looking for an easy way to get rid of dark spots, you’re in luck. All you need to do is rub these little cubes on the affected area and they will naturally remove the dark spots. The reason this works so well is because of the glycolic acid that is present in the sugar cubes. It also works to exfoliate blemishes if you’ve got them. 6. Tomato Juice: Tomato juice mixed with a bit of lemon juice is one of the best remedies for a variety of different skin conditions. You can take it orally once a day or rub the areas you want to heal with this mixture soaked on a cotton ball. 7. Castor Oil: Castor oil has some of the strongest healing properties that help to get rid of dark spots easily and effectively. All that is needed is castor oil applied to a cotton ball that is applied to the dark spots in the morning and in the evening. Creating a ritual of doing this daily will help to quickly fade dark spots away. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hyperpigmentation can have endocrine (hormonal) causes, genetic, and sun related precipitors. In our office, we begin patients on Melarase AM, Melarase PM, Melapads, and Replenish as standard protocol for pigmentation. This is followed by Covalent peels, fractional laser, and Yag laser. Best,

I have dark skin. Suggest me some creams or any facewash which will give glow to my dull skin? Please help me.

I have dark skin. Suggest me some creams or any facewash which will give glow to my dull skin? Please help me.
Believe me, if you are happy from inside and taking nutritious, healthy food and daily yoga or some kind of exercises, it will be automatically reflected on your face. Yes, the colour which is inherited from your parents/ ancestors, cannot be changed, but you can try to get glow on your face!! Daily Regime: Apart from these, you do follow CTMP, i.e., cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally sunscreen with SPF-30 – a thick layer of Bakson's Suncare cream may be, 20-30 minutes before going out daily and repeat it's application after every 3-4hrs.) after washing your face daily; use the products as per your skin type. This will change the skin texture and skin tone. In case you do have tanning, apply honey with a dash of lime on your face. Eat right and healthy that too on time, relieve your stress/ tensions, sleep well, stop smoking, as this restricts blood flow to your face and leaves you with a greyish complexion. lead a healthy lifestyle! Apart from this, avoid anger, anxiety, fear which increases stress hormone in the body and subsequently makes your complexion darker! (Hormonal imbalances also plays a major role). If the dull and dark skin tone is due to any underlying ailment or diseases, need to look into the matter. Diet: -Increase your Vitamin C intake (lemon,orange,gooseberry,etc.Fruits/juices, strawberries, sweet peppers, tomatoes, cantaloupe, and green peas). - Eat more Vitamin A (nonfat milk, oysters, and egg yolks, carrots, watermelon, papaya, tomatoes, or other dark colored produce) . If you feel your skin is weak or not tight enough, that usually suggests a lack of Vitamin A. Medicine: You can also use homoeopathic cream - Medicynth's Whitch Hazel daily at night. Home remedies: Apply fresh-squeezed lemon juice to your entire face and neck. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water. After this, rub cucumber slices on your skin to soften and moisturize it. Do this daily or every other day. Another option is squeeze the juice of one-half lemon and mix one to two tablespoons of raw honey in it. Apply it on your face, leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse it off. To exfoliate your skin, mix two teaspoons each of lemon juice and sugar. Apply the mixture on your face, neck and hands. Scrub in a circular motion and leave it on for 10 minutes. Then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Follow this remedy once a week to enjoy glowing skin.

Boiled a rice in milk then take this rice in one white cloth then tied it properly and warmly it rub on your face every morning for 15 days then stop it and do next month again 2. Apply almond oil on your face and massage for 3-5 min at night. By doing above thing you will get good result.

Skin Pigmentation - What It Says About Your Health?

Skin Pigmentation - What It Says About Your Health?

Pigmentation or the colour of your skin can be a sign of the state of your health. The skin colour can become lighter (hypopigmentation) or darker (hyperpigmentation) when you go through some physical illness or sustain an injury. Melanin is the agent which is responsible for the colour of our skin. When the cells responsible for melanin production get damaged, pigmentation disorders start to appear. When the body produces excessive melanin, the skin tends to get darker.

Excessive exposure to sun, Addison’s disease and pregnancy are some of the factors which might make the skin look darker. On the other hand, limited production of melanin makes the skin lighter and creates light patches. The condition in which your skin develops light patches is known as Vitiligo.

  1. People with darker skin tone are more susceptible to changes in pigmentation. Since dark skin contains more melanin, individuals with dark skin are more prone to ‘melasma’. Melasma is a condition wherein dark patches appear on the surface of the skin and are generally triggered by a change in the level of hormones. Though pregnant women are susceptible to this condition, it can also appear in men.
  2. Pigmentation around the neck could imply a kind of diabetes which is resistant to insulin. Whenever you find that the dark patches around the neck aren’t remedied by regular scrubbing, you need to see a doctor.
  3. Changes in skin pigmentation are also indicative of thyroid problems. Carotenemia is a condition wherein the skin colour turns more yellowish. It could be the result of hypothyroidism where there is an increased production of an antioxidant called beta-carotene in the blood. The beta-carotene, which is found in a number of fruits and vegetables, is generally processed by our thyroid gland. However, when the individual is suffering from hypothyroidism, the vitamins aren’t easily metabolized and thus get accumulated. This leads to orange and yellow skin hues which is indicative of thyroid issues.
  4. People with diabetes often experience bronzing of skin which is generally linked with iron metabolism. Yellowish skin pigmentation, on the other hand, is usually indicative of liver problems. Yellowing of skin along with yellowish tinges on the whites of the eyes is surely indicative of liver failure. Extreme cases of skin darkening or hyperpigmentation in areas around the joints (knees and elbows) could signal some kind of hormonal problem like Addison’s disease. It is always suggested that you consult with your physician whenever you notice a drastic change in your skin tone.
