My son is 8 years old and still do bed wetting. Is there any medicine to stop this.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Tumkur
Bed wetting after 6 years is a matter of concern but drugs are needed as a last resort. First you must try some non pharmacological methods like avoiding water after 6 pm ,emptying bladder before going to bed and at midnight with some badder exercises and reward therapy.

What are differences between cow milk and buffalo milk? Which one is better for a 7 years old child? Any brand which has good quality for this?

BSc, Diploma In Human Nutrition, Certified Diabetes Educator, MBA, Lifestyle Medicine

Please avoid branded packed milk if you can. Else you cannot decide cow or buffalo milk when you buy a milk packet. Generally cow milk is light with low fat and buffalo milk is more fat. If you can buy fresh cow milk of an Indian cow, it is best.

Good evening. My daughter 5 years old has a high temperature like 39,2-39,7 for 4 days already. Nurafen and Paracetamol help for a while and temperature drops after intake for 2-3 hours and then comes back. Also her nose blocked (she breaths with hew mouth open during her sleep) but not running. No other symptoms. What are possible diagnosis? For how long can I proceed with Nurafen and Paracetamol? What vital signs should I monitor and when I should run to the hospital?

Ideally you shall contact your doctor whenever fever is more than 48 hours long. To diagnose it better. Watch for any sign of rash. Low urine out put, lethargy. Poor intake. Retro orbital pain joint pain etc.

Hi doc, my son is 5 months old. I am giving both breastfeeding and bottle for him. Once I started with formula his poo changed from yellow to green colour and it's smelling awful. But he seems to be fine. M giving nan pro 1. Is he fine? Or I need to change another brand.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Jodhpur
The rule of thumb is exclusive breastfeeding till 6 months of age. Bottle feeding at any age is more harmful to health.

Common Myths About Hearing Loss

MBBS, MS - ENT, DNB
ENT Specialist, Gurgaon
Common Myths About Hearing Loss

Hearing loss is experienced by millions of people these days. Ageing is not the only factor that brings hearing impairment. The causes are many. Certain medications, continuous exposure to loud noise, genetic involvement, injury and some medical conditions may cause hearing loss.

There are quite a few myths that people have come to believe about hearing loss over the years. Since it is such a common phenomenon, here we take a look at the common myths surrounding hearing loss.

Myth no. 1: Hearing loss is exclusive to elderly.

Fact: As said before, hearing loss can be an outcome of various causes. Nearly half of the people suffering from the same are below the age of 55 years. No matter what your age is, you must always get your ears checked, especially if you are feeling that are you missing things.

Myth no. 2: Diagnosing hearing loss is easy.

Fact: Most people do not come to know about the condition until it gets worse. Also, your physician never really checks for hearing loss symptoms in a general check-up unless you ask for it specifically.

So, always get a check-up done, like you do for other probable diseases.

Myth no. 3: There's no effective solution for hearing loss.

Fact: Like there have been advancements in the medical field for everything else, there are aids available these days that improve your hearing and have finer adjustments for noise adaptation. Also, there are certain other procedures and surgeries that have proved to improve the condition in many.

So, seek help as soon as possible.

Myth no. 4: The sounds aren't loud enough; my ears are healthy and fine.

Fact: If there is a problem you're experiencing with hearing, you have got to accept that and get it treated. Avoiding a certain condition will only get things worse for you.

Also, hearing aids are no more a stigma. Ear aid devices have designs similar to earphones these days, which are comfortable enough to wear. Ignoring a medical condition or inability to accept the same would only do more harm instead of making things fine.

Hi doc, I am not able to breast feed my baby he is now 20 days old but I am not getting any milk in my breast. Nor I am feeling my breast heavy please suggest me some good medicine so that I can provide him my milk.

MD Pediatrics
Pediatrician, Vadodara
Many times there is a misconception that you are not getting enough milk. It is important to feed the baby with good attachment and position. There are many videos on YouTube which can show you about the position that the mother should take during feeding the baby. Latchment/ attachment is very important so that the baby gets good amount of milk. Also at the end of 10 to 20 days you can meet your doctor to add certain the weight gain the baby has got in these days if it is around 15 to 20 grams per day then it is minimum weight gain. Baby receiving adequate amount of breastmilk passes 5 to 7 times urine per day. The pediatrician will tell you more about position attachment of mother and baby during breastfeeding.

I have 7 month baby and he is my first baby. My problem is my weight mainly tummy fat. Even I do exercises daily but no benefits .i feed the child so what should I do to reduce the extra fat.

MD ( Hom.), Certificate in Food and Nutrition, BHMS, Diploma In Yoga
Homeopath, Indore
I have 7 month baby and he is my first baby. My problem is my weight mainly tummy fat. Even I do exercises daily but ...
Breastfeeding is a great way of reducing your baby belly as it triggers the contraction in uterus and thus helps the uterus to attain its normal size by shrinking it. Nursing also burns the extra calories of women without even putting an ounce of effort on her part. You may be doing exercise for belly fat but that should be in a correct way with correct postures. Beside this you need to add up high fibre diet, take vitamins like B and C in your diet, whole grain and low fat dairy products, take green tea or warm water. Be stress free, also take proper rest. This all will help you to reduce belly fat.

My son is 6 month old now and one of his testicles is not descended since birth. Should we wait for another 2-3 months or proceed with the surgery? Is surgery the only solution?

M.Ch - Paediatric Surgery
Pediatric Surgeon,
My son is 6 month old now and one of his testicles is not descended since birth. Should we wait for another 2-3 month...
Most probably it is a case of undescended testis. In these case surgery should b done by 6 to 12 months of age of child by a pediatric surgeon.
