I am 20 year old male. Within 3 months of my joining as a software engineer mt eye sight increased by 0. 5. Doctor advised me to take arc glasses. My question is: should I move to crizal glasses for better results or is it waste of money. As I work on system for hours, please suggest me tips to maintain my eye-sight like what should be the brightness level thankyou

MBBS, MS - Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
These glasses are too costly to be used. What if your number changes after few months; these will become useless. Better is go for lightweight glasses with additional features that will help you otherwise (like anti glare coating(for computer screens), photochromic glasses(for bright light prevention)).

My eyes become red sometime when I itch it badly and then it starts burning. Pls help what to do. Reply asap.

My eyes become red sometime when I itch it badly and then it starts burning. Pls help what to do. Reply asap.
Redness of the eye is one of the most prevalent problems observed. Redness of the eyes has multiple causes associated with it. To enumerate a few common causes: (1) allergy of the eye. It is usually caused by improper eye hygiene. It occurs with symptoms of pricking, itching, irritation, watering, foreign body sensation and discomfort. There is a tendency to rub the eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth, etc. This is not a good habit because it tends to transmit lots of virus, bacteria and dust into the eye. Allergy usually presents with symptoms of watering (clear water), redness and itching of the eye. Thus, eye hygiene remains the principal modality of treatment along with eye drops as a supplement. (2) infectious conjunctivitis: this is usually associated with white-yellowish discharge. There may occur associated pain and sensation of itching, pricking, watering and discomfort. If so, it would be a good idea to go and show to an eye specialist in person. (3) foreign body lodged in the eye. This is more commonly associated with people who drive 2 wheeler vehicles without protection. It occurs more commonly in one eye. Foreign bodies that commonly get lodged are eyelashes, insect wings, small insects, dust particles, iron particles (more common with people working in the iron industry) the solution for a foreign body lodged in the eye would be better provided by an eye specialist at the clinic because it would require immediate removal from the eye and appropriate therapy. (4) raised eye pressure: this is a condition known as glaucoma. It is not so common as the previous mentioned conditions. There is usually associated pain in the eyes. It is commonly bilateral (occurs in both eyes). There is usually a positive family history of glaucoma associated in a majority of the cases. (5) inflammation of the covering layers of the eyeball. This is known as" uveitis" it is also a relatively less common condition. There is associated pain. It would require a thorough eye checkup including the retina-thus a good idea would be to visit the eye specialist in person. (6) increased blood pressure. This has known to cause redness which is also known as sub-conjunctival hemorrhage. The redness in this case tends to be deep dark and usually occurs only in one portion of the eye. In this regard, a complete ophthalmic evaluation and a systemic evaluation is warranted. (7) injury/ trauma to the eye in any form may cause redness of the eyes. This should be taken seriously and assessed in detail by an eye specialist in person. From the symptoms described by you, it seems more likely to be a case of allergy. Maintaining the precautions and hygiene that I mentioned should probably work well for you. You could also use a lubricant eye drop along with an anti-histamine eye drop. (3-4 times daily) also, you might require a complete eye evaluation in order to rule out other causes. This would be possible only by examining your eyes in person. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care, regards.

Glasses, contact lenses and surgery are the only three options for good vision if you having spectacle power. If you not comfortable with contact lens, you can plan lasik surgery after a proper prelasik checkup.

You may also be asked to give a blood sample. Blood testing can measure your vitamin A and glucose levels. Night blindness caused by nearsightedness, cataracts, or vitamin A deficiency is treatable. Corrective lenses, such as eyeglasses or contacts, can improve nearsighted vision both during the day and at night.

Glonoinum & Ruta Graveolens. One of my friend got treated for Glaucoma with the above combination. Is it true?

MBBS, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Hyderabad
It is not known or documented scientifically that these things can "cure" glaucoma. It would be very risky to give up standard treatment and experiment with one's own vision. Do not depend on individual experiences and advise. However, if these things are proven to be effective scientifically, in large clinical trials, then doctors would prescribe them anyway.

Your condition is named as photophobia, or light sensitivity, and it is an intolerance of light. Sources such as sunlight, fluorescent light and incandescent light all can cause discomfort headaches also may accompany light sensitivity. Light-sensitive people sometimes are bothered only by bright light. In extreme cases, however, any light can be irritating. Photophobia is not an eye disease, but a symptom of many conditions such as infection or inflammation that can irritate the eyes. If you're naturally sensitive to light, avoid bright sunlight and other harsh lighting sources. Wear wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses with ultraviolet (uv) protection.. Photochromic lenses are another solution for mild sun sensitivity. These lenses darken automatically outdoors and block 100 percent of the sun's uv rays. For bright sunlight, consider polarized sunglasses. These sun lenses provide extra protection against glare-causing reflections of light from water, sand, snow, concrete roadways and other reflective surfaces. 6. In an extreme case, you may consider wearing prosthetic contact lenses that are specially colored to look like your own eyes. Prosthetic contact lenses can reduce the amount of light that enters theeye and make your eyes more comfortable.----- homoeopathic medicine cinelube eyedrops (hapdco) pour 2 drops 3 times daily.

Hi, my eye sight is increasing whats the tip to reduce it? Please advise.
Your power will stabilise at the age of 20 years and there is no means of reducing it. You have the option of using specs or contact lenses or if you are above 20 you can undergo lasik laser.
