Hello lybrate-user, Stress is one of the commonest situation we all are dealing in with and I can understand your pressures. Since we have to work and manage our personal life too it is important to keep a check on WORK-LIFE BALANCE. Try to take out some time for yourself and for relaxing activities which may help you improving your mood and health and in turn bring positive attitude too. Spending quality time with family and peers is also helpful along with regular exercises. Hope that keeps your BP in control. Take care of yourself. Life is valuable. Good luck.

Hi I was diagnosed with panic disorder and mild depression in 2011 post which I was on medication of paxidep 75 mg and olean 7.5 mg. Gradually moved to serta 25 and paxidep 25 mg and finally was on paxidep 25 mg for a good 3.5 years when I hardly faced any problem. Then I weaned to 12.5 of paxidep and moved to escitalopram 10.5 with an sos of clonazepam. I was initially doing well on escitalopram when problems of panic attack started reoccurring and doctor moved me back to 12.5 mg of paxidep as that medicine worked best for me. I was fine on it for a month but started experiencing mild anxiety again and now since 2 dys I am on paxidep 25 mg. My problem is I worry a lot, have irrational fears and when a thought is stuck in my head it remains stuck. And mostly I worry about health. When I am in the best of health I can take a lot of stress. But recently someone said I must be suffering from bipolar disorder and that is worrying me a lot. Do you think my symptoms are that of bipolar or general anxiety. I dint have any manic episodes or deep depression when like the first time. I keep researching all the time. Also I want to know how long would it take for me to adjust to increased dose of paxidep, since I am experiencing drowsiness, loss of appetite, nausea, and break in sleep in the night.

Dear Suryatapa, You have an anxiety disorder. Mild depression is common in patents with anxiety disorder. There is no features of bipolar disorder in your case so bipolar disorder is highly unlikely. You can take paxidep in night time to avoid daytime drowsiness. You can take other medicine for improvement in sleep. It will take min 2 week to get improvement on high dose of paxidep. All d best

There are several things you can do to prevent an episode of acidity like: Avoid alcohol. Normally alcohol in moderation is well tolerated but for people prone to acidity even a small amount of alcohol can cause discomfort. Avoid smoking .The nicotine in the tobacco affects the opening and closing of the food pipe allowing back flow of the normal stomach acid into the food pipe. Eat small meals. Instead of 3 big meals, have 5 small meals every 3-4 hours. Eat slowly. Don’t sleep on a full stomach. Try to have an early dinner. Make sure there is a gap of 3 hours between your last meal and bed time. Wear loose-fitting clothes. Avoid certain known foods which cause acidity like, coffee, tea, colas, and citrus fruits, oily and spicy food. If your weight is high – losing a few kilos will reduce acidity too. Keep a gap of 2 hours between exercise and meals. Drink at least 3 litres of water every day. Try meditation and yoga to minimise daily stress.

1. Protein is the key for the muscle building. Without adequate protein, muscle gain and growth is not possible because weight training demands for amino acids (which comes from protein). You should daily eat about 2.2g of protein per kilogram of your weight. For example, if you are 50kg, then you should eat 50x2.2=111g of protein spread over 5-6 meals in the day. Include high protein foods in your diet. Your protein intake should be from foods rather than from supplements. Good protein foods: beans, soybeans, whey, fish, dairy products (low fat variety), meats, nuts and seeds (almonds, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds), peanut butter. Many of these are easy digestible foods. Milk is one of the best muscle foods. The milk contains two high quality proteins, about 80 percent whey and 20 percent casein. Whey is quickly broken down into amino acids and absorbed into the bloodstream. Whey is very good to consume after workout. Casein is digested more slowly and provides the body with a steady supply of protein for a longer period of time. Cheese is concentrated milk, so it is high in protein and calcium, fat and cholesterol. Include healthy skim yogurt in your diet, which can give you as much as 120 calories.----------- 2. Eat custard apple (saripa, sitaphal) to put on some weight. This fruit is high in calorie.------------- 3. Healthy fats: avoid fatty foods. Most mothers, especially in india give too much ghee or butter to their children, thinking they will put flesh fast. But ghee is mostly saturated fat which is not a healthy fat for any body. Healthy fats are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids. Good fats: cold pressed oils (olive, sunflower, linseed, canola).---------- 4. Drink pure fruit juice. It is full of sugar and added nutrients so it is a healthy and nutritious way to gain some pounds.----------- 5. Complex carbohydrates are also needed for gaining weight. Corn bread is also full of carbohydrates, one piece gives approximately 328 calories. Potatoes are rich sources of carbohydrates and complex sugars, eat baked or as grilled potatoes. Pasta is a calorie rich cereal carbohydrates.----------- 6. Eat bananas. These are rich in carbs and nutritious, one banana contains approximately 100 calories.---------- 7. Some people think that drinking beer helps, but it is not true, it accumulates in your abdomen, making it fatty.---------- 8. Don't take protein supplements for gaining muscles. ------------------------ 9. Non vegetarian foods--------- some of the non-vegetarian foods that help increase weight are given below:---- 1. Red meat ------ 2. Pork, ------ 3. Fish: eat two portions of salmon, or tuna every day.------- 4. Shrimps: the nutrients and necessary acid content present in shrimps gives healthy calories.- 5. Chicken breast chicken breast, is supposed to be the healthiest and non-fat part which has approximately 78 calories for each serving.-------- 6. Whole eggs: eggs are loaded with protein, vitamins a, d and e.--------

Dear, Anger and aggression are emotions. Anger comes when you become irritated. Irritation happens when you don't like something, or when something is repeated. As anger is an emotion, it should be vent out. You should be able to throw anger out instead of controlling it. But more perfect will be, know the frustrating situations and stop being emotional. If practiced properly, you will not get irritated at those circumstances at all. Those techniques are much easier to understand. Please post a private question with all the details and I shall help you with those tips and tricks. Take care.

Depression: Is it Related With Food?

Depression: Is it Related With Food?

Depression is a clinical, mental, and emotional condition that may give rise to feelings of hopelessness and chronic sadness. It slows down the way people process everyday activities and leads the patient to a sense of constant gloom and doom. It is a disabling mental condition as per WHO, and may be caused due to reasons like genetics, changes in the balance of hormones, stress, grief, trauma and prolonged, chronic physical ailments. Depression is also connected with food and nutrition. Do you want to know how?

Read on to see the three ways in which food and depression are connected.

  1. Severity and Duration: Depression is a mental illness that signifies an imbalance in the hormones and the emotional faculties in the brain. Nutrition is the fuel that keeps the brain and body in prime working condition. When a depressive state sets in or becomes emotionally rooted, then nutritious eating and a proper diet take a back seat as the patient succumbs to a state where he or she is not concerned about the food intake. As a result, the brain and hormonal balance get further affected. This can have an adverse effect on the severity and the duration of the depressive mode, which makes it all a vicious cycle of sorts. Poor appetite, not having proper meals, skipping meals, eating junk, avoiding social settings where food will be served, and even emotional eating are all outcomes of depression too.
  2. Eating Disorders: Many patients who have eating disorders often experience deep rooted and chronic depression. Since despondency and hopelessness are the main characteristics of depressive behaviour, the outcome is that the patient tries to behave in a way that seeks approval. And in all this, the patient usually thinks that he or she is not 'good enough'. In such a scenario, the patient may start trying out fad diets and eventually fall prey to eating disorders like Bulimia that make the patient overeat and then vomit. These eating disorders usually come with phases of binge eating, throwing up, starving and then repeating the cycle again. Eating in secrecy is also a symptom of this condition.
  3. Nutrition to Fight Depression: Nutrition and proper food intake can build a sense of resilience by first of all improving the overall physical condition of the patient. This can take care of a lot of angst even as the minerals and vitamins travel to the brain for better functioning in the long run.

Ensure that you eat right as a part of your therapy for depression. This is as good as taking your medication on time. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a psychologist.

What is main causes of dengue? And what is the symptoms of dengue? How we do first treatments for it?

AUTLS, CCEDM, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Faridabad
What is main causes of dengue? And what is the symptoms of dengue? How we do first treatments for it?
The principal symptoms of dengue are: -high fever and at least two of the following: -severe headache -severe eye pain (behind eyes) -joint pain -muscle and/or bone pain -rash -mild bleeding manifestation (nose or gum bleed, petechiae, or easy bruising) Watch for warning signs as temperature declines 3 to 5 days after symptoms/fever began, as this is the most dangerous period when platelet counts decline significantly. Report immediately to hospital if any of the following warning signs appear: -severe abdominal pain or persistent vomiting -red spots or patches on the skin -bleeding from nose or gums -vomiting blood -black, tarry stools -drowsiness or irritability -pale, cold, or clammy skin -difficulty breathing There is no specific medication for treatment of a dengue infection. Use analgesics with acetaminophen (crocin or dolo -650 mg) and avoid those containing ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin or aspirin containing drugs. Take rest, drink plenty of fluids like coconut water, lime water etc. To prevent dehydration. Avoid visiting heavily populated residential areas, if possible. Use mosquito repellents, even indoors. When outdoors, wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants tucked into socks.

Hi I am having Regular hair fall. How to control? any tips to control? any suggestions?

Diploma in homeopathy, B. Sc
Homeopath, Gurgaon
Look, hair fall has become the prime problem with young males/females. It is mainly related to the diet one consumes and, of course our polluted air. When I say' diet' it is an accumulation of all we consume and have consumed since school and college days. Fast foods are the main culprit. If you are even slightly over-weight it is an indication of unhealthy eating. Too much carb, little protein and a lot of junk or unhealthy food. When my grandfather departed at 83, he had a head of full hair. I would suggest you buy a bottle of homeopathic arnica plus and use it as instructed on the package for 5 months and advise. Hi, This is due to iron deficiency. Get her Hb levels tested and even routine stool examination has to be done to rule out worm infestation. Please follow these tips to overcome anaemia: - Consume plenty of green leafy vegetables like spinach, methi, broccoli, beetroot, drumsticks, brinjal, carrot, tomatoes, etc. - Consume fruits like apple, pomegranate, dry fruits like dry grapes, dates, fig, almonds, walnuts, pista, etc. As it contains lot of proteins and vitamins. - Intake of citrus fruits like oranges, musambi helps to increase the absorption of iron as it contains vit. C. - Intake of deficient haematinic supplements like iron, B 12, folic acid, etc according to the peripheral smear reports.
