This is due to weakness of calf muscles. You should search for calf muscle strengthening and stretching exercises on Google. After practicing these exercises for a week, you will see the change by yourself. Avoid prolonged standing posture and keep a pillow under your knees and ankle joints while sleeping.

Why Is Physiotherapy A Key To The Treatment Of Arthritis?

There are over 200 types of arthritis that are known to medical science. While some are easy to manage, some can be deadly if proper care is not taken on time. The common factor of any arthritis, however, is the physical pain in the joints and muscles.

How Does Physiotherapy Help?

It is known that some forms of exercise go a long way in managing the symptoms of arthritis. Physiotherapy focuses on the right form of exercise that helps in relieving pain. Furthermore, they help to improve the movement of the joint, the walking posture and muscle strengthening. Based on the condition and severity of the pain, a physiotherapist might recommend free hand exercise or workout sessions in a swimming pool.

What is the Role of a Physiotherapist?

Apart from helping in managing pain, a physiotherapist’s job includes the following:

  1. To improve the flexibility, balance and coordination of the body in order to achieve the maximum physical function.

  2. Recommend appropriate exercise to fix improper posture that may be causing the pain.

  3. Assist in using devices such as canes and walkers.

  4. Recommend various other treatment options such as thermal therapy, shoe inserts, braces and splints in order to relieve the pain.

  5. Recommend changes in the environment such as using of cushion, ergonomic chairs etc.

Exercise:

A physiotherapist recommends various exercises in order to relieve the pain. They start with graded exercises. These start slowly and quantify in an incremental manner. Graded exercises help to strengthen the bone and increase the fitness of an arthritis patient. It also helps the body secrete a hormone known as endorphins which help to manage the pain.

Strengthening and Stretching:

Stretching and strengthening are basic starters that a physiotherapist recommends. After assessing the strength of the muscle, a physiotherapist advises on the techniques and of various stretching and strengthening exercises. Stretching helps to relax the muscle and free up any cramps in the body. Strengthening, on the other hand, helps the bone to become more flexible and reduces the pain.

Avoiding Arthritis Pain:

  1. It is important to be active. Keeping the muscles strong and moving the muscles is a key to get relief from the pain.

  2. Maintain a healthy diet in order to ensure the right BMI for your body. Being overweight or obese can exert added pressure on the bone resulting in arthritis pain.

  3. Maintain good body posture, especially walking and sitting posture. Good posture helps in ensuring normal breathing and proper digestion.

  4. Regularly practice the exercises recommended by the physiotherapist.

  5. Using of cooling packs and thermal treatment on the joints often helps to relieve the pain.

Investigations advised - hb, tlc, dlc, esr, sugar f & pp, uric acid, vit d3 urine r/e x ray of the affected part. Anyway you may try- sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomentation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck back knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, inform

Hi Go for proper exercise on regular basis. Reduce body weight as much as you can. Use cold compression around pain area. Consult after 3 days.

What exercises are good to protect your joints? The best choices are low-impact options like walking, bicycling, and swimming. That's because high-impact, pounding, and jarring exercises can increase the risk of joint injuries and may slowly cause cartilage damage. Light weight-lifting exercises should also be included. As rightly advised by the other doctor, you need to take proper precautions before taking the blood sample. If its persistently high, then you need further evaluation. The symptoms you are having is because of increased prolactin levels in your body. The cause can be a small tumour in the brain, certain kinds of medications etc. An endocrinologist will help you with medicines to control the level of prolactin. If there is a treatable cause, then that should be treated by surgery.

Try sitting on a soft cushion at work to avoid constant pressure on the coccyx. And try taking a break every hour and walk a little. Ultrasonic treatment at a physiotherapy clinic will give you relief.

Dear Lybrate user over weight also leads to knee pain. Climbing stairs may also be reason. Massage with Bala taila daily about 15mnts. Take dashamularista 25 ml with equal warm water 2tms. You need complete knee rest.

I am 42 years old, 5'10' and 76kg with no chronic ailments. I've started body building at the age of 16 and intermittently continued till now. Initially took weights for 5 years. But due to time constraints used to do freehand exercises thereafter, mainly, push up 140 to 160 in a set of 10 to 12 at quick succession and few stretching for last 10 years. But for last few years I am feeling pains in the muscle around left collar bone. The pains move from left shoulder to neck to in between muscles of collar bone and even inside (lower part) ear. Consulted few surgeon and they advised to take rest till the pain is over. But the pain again starts after myself re continue the free hand exercises. I became restless if I cannot undergo the physical activities. Please help.
