Majority of people believe the right time to see an Orthodontist (M.D.S. orthodontist is a specialist who uses braces and wires to bring the teeth into perfect place, thus enhancing the smile) is once all the milk teeth fall and new ones erupts. This cannot be more wrong. Every child should be taken for an orthodontic checkup at the age of 7. Another criteria could be emergence of any permanent tooth that in an odd place or looks rotated, inclined, zig zag position.

I am having cavity issues since the last 3 days. Is there any home therapy? What should I do?

Dentist, Agra
There is no home therapy for treatment of cavities. You need a proper filling to reverse it. And in future you should maintain proper oral hygiene to prevent getting cavities.

I have tooth ache. I thought that it would be fine but it is getting more and more painful. What can I do?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need root canal treatment. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush.

Dear lybrate user with the limited amount of information provided we assume that as you are a diabetic you are concerned about tooth issues. It could had been better had you provided us with your fasting and hba1c levels for better understanding of your condition. Tooth decay is a common problem in diabetics due to unmanaged sugars and this should be regularly taken care of. Ideally diabetics should get their tooth inspected every 6 months and any infection should be taken care of at the earliest. Good that you are already consulting a dental surgeon and he has advised you wisely, please go ahead as advised by him. Take care that your sugars should be well in control before the procedure. Hope that solves your query. Anything more then please feel free to revert.

I' m a 32 years old male. I' m brushing daily morning thoroughly before breakfast since my childhood. But the colour of my tooth is not pure white. Is there any tips to do along with daily brushing to get pure white colour?

Start using colgate visible white toothpaste, if still you are not satisfied, you can go for bleaching of teeth(dental bleaching, also known as tooth whitening, is a common procedure in general dentistry. According to the fda, whitening restores natural tooth color and bleaching whitens beyond the natural color. There are many methods available, such as brushing, bleaching strips, bleaching pen, bleaching gel, and laser bleaching. Teeth whitening has become the most requested procedure in cosmetic dentistry today)

Doctor, I am a 18 year old guy. I have irregular teeths. I don't want to put braces on my teeths, is there any other solution to straighten my teeths?

Dear , good evening - there is a treatment protocol - clearpath or invisalgin - it can be done by anyone who has been doing it. Basically it is a carry home system and you are responsible for wearing and correctly using the same. Of course it is hardly visible - but if you do not wear as expected do not expect the desired results too. The cost could be a bit discouraging as all the work is done outside the country and shipped to the dental surgeon who again guides you to the same.

Hi, The most common cause of bleeding gums and bad breath is gum disease caused by accumulation of tartar deposits on the teeth which harbour bacteria. The solution would be to see your dentist and, probably get a professional cleaning done.

Soft food or food which does not require any chewing should be consumed in the initial stage of the orthodontic treatment.

Hey, I have a problem like my teeth are yellow and very small. I brush twice in a day. But, there is no improvements in it. Please suggest me something.

Dentist, Kota
Size of the tooth determined by genes. You can not grow it. The natural color of teeth again determined by genes some have bright white shining teeth while others have with yellow tinge. To make more whiter avoid aggressive brushing, though brushing twice daily with soft bristles brush and good toothpaste is good to maintain hygiene. Need to evaluate your teeth to know exact treatment plan or possibility.
