What Are Anti-Depressants?

Psychiatrist, Mumbai
What Are Anti-Depressants?

Are you suffering from acute depression? Well, in this case nothing can be a better solution than taking anti-depressants. Anti-Depressants are nothing, but specialized medicines or drugs that can help in releasing the stress hormones and finally the depression is completely eliminated.

These medicines need to be taken only if the doctors have prescribed the same, otherwise you might face innumerable complications. Some people think that these drugs are equivalent to sleeping pills; in fact they are not.

What are the benefits of the ani-depressants?

  1. Provide Tranquillity: You can feel calm by taking the tranquilizers. However, in this case, you have to be very much aware of the perfect dosage as overdose can create innumerable troubles that cannot be easily rectified. In fact, these medicines can be treated as one of the major aspects of any psychological treatment. These drugs are the most powerful of all, and on the other hand, you can have greater effectiveness after consuming the same. If you are facing heath complications while taking these anti-depressants, then you have to immediately inform about the same to the doctor so that you can remain absolutely safe and protected.
  2. Increases Comfort: Your comfort level can be increased to a great extent. If you think that alcohol can provide you comfort, then you are wrong. Your health will get deteriorated a lot by having alcohol. But in this case, you will not face any health complications until and unless dosage is exceeded. All anti-depressants are not suitable for your health, and this is the reason you should listen to your doctor and then only consume the same. You should learn the safest usage of anti-depressants so that you can remain healthy and safe along with the elimination of stress and depression.
  3. Treating Anxiety Disorders: Anxiety is of the most critical types of mental disorders that cannot be easily treated, and this is the reason doctors often prescribe different kinds of anti-depressants so that anxiety can be controlled. In this case, Barbiturate deserves special mention and this drug is suitable for all. Nembutal and Phenobarbital are also very much beneficial in treating anxiety disorders. Acute stress and panic attacks can be resolved only by consuming Benzodiazepines. Brain activity can be reduced, and your nerves can get relaxed. This calming effect is really quite soothing in nature and can help you to stay away from all kinds of depression.

Take plenty of oral liquids. Donot try holding urine for a longer time. Have barley water thrice a day and avoid taking palak, brinjal and nonveg foods. Milk products need to be restricted for some time. If the stone size is big, then it may have to be removed surgically.

I've got facial hair arising from temple to upper portion of cheek on my face. What are the options available for me to get rid of them? If cosmetology hold some answers please give me approximate cost trtmnt would incur. Thanks.

MD - Dermatology
Dermatologist, Pathanamthitta
Facial and body hair is due to hirsutism. This does not improve with home remedies, medicines or creams, but definitely improves with laser treatment. This is the only permanent solution for it. It's very effective, safe and economical. It gives you your money's worth. Its very reasonably available in many places today.

My age is 19 years I am a male. I get. To the point. I am suffering from from a disease which all doctors call IBS (irritation bowel syndrome. I frequently experience loose motions and cramps in stomach. It has been 2 years since I am ill. No medicines seem to help me even 1 percent. They say that this disease is related to mental stress but I do not take stress that much and my condition is not improving even a single bit. Please help me. The quality od my stool is less solid than normal (semi solid. I get cramps and pain in stomach while in toilet and every now and then. Please suggest me something. All doctors say its IBS. But somehow their allopathy treatment doesn't help me.

Hi, irritable bowel syndrome (ibs) is a chronic condition that manifests itself with abdominal pain and changes in bowel habits. As partially digested food moves from the stomach through the intestines, the intestines squeeze and contract to move the food. With ibs, intestinal movement becomes irregular, causing food to move too quickly or slowly through the digestive system. When the food moves too quickly, the bowel does not have enough time to extract the water and the result is diarrhea. Food that moves too slowly causes the bowel to extract too much water, resulting in constipation. Increase the amount of soluble fiber in your diet to increase the bulk of your stool. Bulkier stool is softer and easier to pass through your digestive system. Be cautious with insoluble fiber, such as wheat bran, which can worsen ibs symptoms. Take lecithin. Foods rich in lecithin are egg yolks, soybeans, cow milk butter and animal brains. You can also buy soy lecithin granules in most supermarkets or health food stores. Lecithin helps restore the endothelium which is often damaged in irritable bowel syndrome (ibs). Caffeine and nicotine serve as muscle stimulants and may aggravate sensitive bowels, contributing to ibs symptoms. Alcohol is known to be a gastric irritant. Get regular exercise. Exercise helps your body to deal with stress and promotes good bowel function. Some people who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome are lactose intolerant. Try avoiding all milk and dairy products for two weeks to see if your symptoms improve. If you have been diagnosed with ibs and have bad period pains with it, then ask your doctor if you can try buscopan cramps (tablets) they're not recommended for everyone but they do work for period and ibs issues and the cramps that you get with ibs. Peppermint has been thought to help ibs (constipation and diarrhea) as it aids healthy digestion and relieves abdominal cramps, it can be taken in many forms, for instance in capsules taken before or after meals, herbal tea's and fresh peppermint.

DNB (Orthopedics), MS - Orthopaedics, MBBS
Orthopedist, Bhopal
If you stand with your ankle touching each other and the inner aspect of your knees rub each other, you have knock knees. Its a physiological variation and you cannot correct it by any means except surgery which is only advisable in genu valgum (significant knock knees) (certainly not in your case). So cheers. The army has this weird protocol since colonial times which they are reluctant to change.

My hydrocele is big n its from past few months I want to get it in original size. What shall I do to reduce its size?

General Physician, Nashik
Hydroceles often go away on their own within six months. A hydrocele requires treatment only if it gets large enough to cause discomfort or disfigurement. Then it might need to be surgically removed.

General Physician,
Heavy sweating (also known as hyperhidrosis) is a very real and embarrassing problem, but there are some effective ways to treat it. What Is Hyperhidrosis? Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is a common disorder which produces a lot of unhappiness. An estimated 2-3% of people suffer from excessive sweating of the underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis) or of the palms and soles of the feet (palmoplantar hyperhidrosis). Underarm problems tend to start in late adolescence, while palm and sole sweating often begins earlier, around the age 13 (on the average). Untreated, these problems may continue throughout life. Sweating is embarrassing, it stains clothes, ruins personal contact, and complicates business and social interactions. Severe cases can have serious practical consequences as well, making it hard for people who suffer from it to hold a pen, grip a car steering wheel, or shake hands. Causes OF Hyperhidrosis:- Although neurologic, endocrine, infectious, and other systemic diseases can sometimes cause hyperhidrosis, most cases occur in people who are otherwise healthy. Heat and emotions may trigger hyperhidrosis in some, but many who suffer from hyperhidrosis sweat nearly all their waking hours, regardless of their mood or the weather. Antiperspirants This may be the first treatment that a dermatologist recommends. It is affordable. When applied as directed, an antiperspirant can be effective. Your dermatologist may recommend a regular or clinical-strength antiperspirant. Some patients need a stronger antiperspirant and receive a prescription for one. Iontophoresis (the no-sweat machine) If excessive sweating affects your hands, feet, or both areas, this may be an option. You will use this treatment at home. It requires you to immerse your hands or feet in a shallow pan of tap water. As you do this, a medical device sends a low-voltage current through the water. Many people obtain relief. Some people dislike that this treatment can be time-consuming. Uses: Hands and feet It works by the electric current shuts down the treated sweat glands temporarily. Side effects: Some people develop: • Dry skin • Irritated skin • Discomfort during treatment Prescription medicine Some patients receive a prescription for a medicine that temporarily prevents them from sweating. These medicines work throughout the body. However we cannot prescribe in open question answer session as a rule but you can ask in consultation. These medicines prevent the sweat glands from working. Athletes, people who work in a hot place, and anyone who lives in a warm climate should use extreme caution when using this treatment. The body may not be able to cool itself. Uses: These medicines can effectively treat sweating that involves entire body. This medicine also can be an effective treatment for post-menopausal women who sweat excessively only from their head. Side effects: The medicines that prevent the sweat glands from working can cause: • Dry mouth • Dry eyes • Blurry vision • Heart palpations (abnormal heartbeat) Surgery If other treatments fail to bring relief, surgery may be considered. Surgery is permanent and carries risks. The following surgeries can stop excessive sweating: • Surgically remove sweat glands • Sympathectomy A dermatologist can surgically remove sweat glands from the underarms. This surgery can be performed in a dermatologist’s office. Only the area to be treated is numbed, so the patient remains awake during the surgery. A dermatologist may use one or more of the following surgical techniques to remove sweat glands from the underarms: • Excision (cut out sweat glands) • Liposuction (remove with suction) • Curettage (scrape out) • Laser surgery (vaporize) Sympathectomy is another surgery used to treat hyperhidrosis. This is major surgery, which a surgeon performs in an operating room. During sympathectomy, the surgeon tries to stop the nerve signals that your body sends to the sweat glands. To do this, the surgeon will cut or destroy certain nerves. To find these nerves, the surgeon inserts a mini surgical camera into the patient’s chest just beneath the underarm. The patient’s lung must be temporarily collapsed so that the surgeon can cut or destroy nerves. Uses: • Surgical removal of sweat glands is used to treat the underarms • Sympathectomy is mainly used to treat the palms
