The difference is sr means sustained release, where the drug metformin is released over 12 hrs at a constant rate and the drug action is prolonged. Normal tablet releases the drug in about an hour or so, action lasts for lesser time. Sr tablets also produce lesser gastro intestinal side effects.

Post Menopausal Health

DGO, MD, MRCOG, CCST, Accredation in Colposcopy
Gynaecologist, Kolkata

The diagnosis of menopause is made after periods have stopped for at least 1 year after the age of 40 due to reducing ovarian activity. The age span can vary between 45 to 55 and the median age is 52 years.Menopause occurring before the age of 40 is premature and one needs to consult a Gynaecologist.

The time span for several months to several years leading to menopause is called perimenopause. The periods during this time may become irregular and the patient may experience hot flushes, night sweats, anxiety, mood swings etc; 30-60% of women may experience emotional symptoms at this time. The major symptoms include:

  • Hot Flushes and Night seats
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Tiredness and sleep disturbances
  • Mood swings and lack of concentration
  • Loss of interest in having sex

Every woman experiences menopause differently. A few will have a combination of different mild symptoms while others will have more severe symptoms. Some women choose to go through menopause without any treatment whereas others prefer to have hormonal or non-hormonal medications to help control their symptoms.

However it is important to consult a Gynaecologist as irregular periods and other symptoms may be due to other pathologies and may need investigating.

A healthy lifestyle is very important during this time to maintain good bone health and general health.Regular aerobic exercises like swimming, jogging, brisk walking and in general maintaining an active lifestyle and maintaining an optimal body mass index is very important and helps in preventing osteoporosis, heart disease etc;

  • Low-intensity exercises such as yoga may help to reduce hot flushes and boost general well-being.
  • Reducing intake of tea/coffee/ caffeinated drinks will help reduce hot flushes and night sweats.
  • Vaginal lubricants and moisturisers help in reducing vaginal dryness during intercourse.
  • Also equally important is having a diet rich in Calcium, proteins and low in fat and refined carbohydrates like sweets and junk foods.
  • Soya-based foods like soya beans, chickpeas, peas are rich is phytoestrogens nad may help in reducing perimenopausal/ menopausal symptoms.
  • Getting an annual health check up done helps in identifying risks earlier and taking appropriate actions earlier on.
  • Women should have regular PAP smears, BP check, Mammograms, Lipid profile done and other tests if clinically indicated.

Finally, it is best to consult a Gynaecologist if a woman is having any perimenopausal or menopausal symptoms so that appropriate treatment can be instituted.

I am feeling dhatu (semen) coming when my Penis erect and I feel weak and my Penis so small for this.

BHMS
Homeopath, Sindhudurg
I am feeling dhatu (semen) coming when my Penis erect and I feel weak and my Penis so small for this.
What you are noticing is the pre-ejaculation fluid coming out of your penis, which in slang terms is sometimes called pre-cum. When you are feeling romantic, whether talking on the telephone or even just holding hands with your girlfriend, your body doesn't know if those romantic feelings are going to lead to sexual intercourse or not. Obviously it should not until you are married, but your body doesn't know that. All it notices is that your are sexually aroused. A number of things happen inside your body in response to sexual arousal. Your heart rate rises a bit and your blood pressure goes up. This leads to your penis getting bigger and depending on the amount of arousal, it will get erect. At the same time, preparations are made for the possibility of an ejaculation. Pre-ejaculate fluid can contain a few sperm. However, it only takes one sperm reaching a woman's egg to cause pregnancy. Also, because the pre-ejaculate fluid is from your body, it can spread sexually transmitted diseases if you had picked up one from sinning in the past. This is why boys should not fool around with the genitals of a woman to whom they are not married. Even without ejaculation there is a small chance of getting her pregnant, and a much higher chance of spreading a sexually transmitted disease. Consult for further help.

Hello Dear, Sexual vitality is a vital factor to lead pleasing sexual life. Some time people lose their sexual vitality due to change in lifestyle and emotional problem. In ayurveda there is a complete branch to explain the treatment for vigor and vitality is known as vaajikarna. Vaajikarana is the branch of Ayurveda dealing with the promotion of sexual health and the management of seminal disorders and male sexual disorders and their natural solutions. Ayurveda is the best natural way to treat sexual problems. Both physical and psychological disturbance can be responsible for the weakness. According to Ayurveda, there are seven basic types of dhatus in a human body. These seven basic dhatus are composed of five mahabhutas. These dhatus remain inside the human body in a proper equilibrium so that the body can function properly. It is said that any kind of disturbance or imbalance in their equilibrium due to body dosha causes ailments and diseases. Each of the Dhatus is built out of a previous one and they develop on the nourishment that comes from the digestive system.

Hi You cannot work on a specific body part. You have to work on overall fat loss and toning. Try to eat small but frequent meals. Avoid long gaps in between meals. Drink a glass of lime water in the mornings to lush out your system & avoid bloating. Avoid junk as far as possible. Exercise at least 4 times a week. Include exercises that tone your back and abdominal muscles too. Lastly be committed. Remember it's a lifestyle change and not a one time thing. It's a balanced intake that will last you longer. All the so called diets and singular ab exercises or ab machines will not give you targeted results. The fats will remain as it is. It's all about overall work out and balanced diet.
