My Blood sugar fasting is 139 and PP 157. Please advice what I should take and what I should avoid.
Mr. Lybrate-user, your fasting sugar 139 mg, shows presence of diabetes, but pp 157 mg is in the pre- diabetes state. So it is not clear whether you have diabetes. Please get hba1c% checked. The criteria for diagnosing diabetes are: fasting equal to or above 126 mg / 100 ml, pp equal to or above 200 mg/ 100 ml & hba1c% >6.5. You should avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, other bakery items, sweetened aerated drinks, fructose corn syrup containing products and highly processed foods. Exercise regularly so that weight is maintained near normal. Plus avoid alcohol and smoking. Basically it means you have to adapt a modified lifestyle. Thanks.

most probably u r suffering from a complication of diabetes called gastroparesis.in which there is delayed gastric emptying causing nausea vomiting and early satiety. management include dietry modification, glycemic control,and if not relieved some meds like prokinetics and antiemetics help

Mr., to suggest a dietary plan, all the information like fasting, pp sugar levels hba1c%, extent of daily exercise is needed. Because diet has to be based on blood sugar levels, ideal body weight, and amount of daily exercise and present dietary habits. However, avoid sweets completely, avoid deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, other bakery items, sweetened aerated drinks (colas), sweet corn syrup containing products, highly processed foods and high fat containing milk products. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and permitted fruits (100 g a day). Use whole grain products, avoid refined flour like maida and foods made out of it. Total caloric intake should e about 1700 calories per day. Thanks for the question.

I am 54 years male having diabetes for last 24 years . I am taking insulin 12 units 4 times a day (ie before food and before night sleep . My sugar level at the morning fasting is 140 to 160. But it reducing gradually and becomes 60 at the evening . Please advise.

You need to reschedule your insulin doses the level of insulin in the evening as you mentioned is very low and you may go in to coma due to hypoglycemia keep a pouch of sugar always with you for emergency. Consult your doctor immediately for review of your insulin dosing.

Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. Have protein Rich foods that will provide a sustainable source of energy. Eat and sleep on time everyday.this will regularise your routine

If you have blood sugars in the range of 350-500 then you should not leave insulin injections. In fact your insulin dosage or type of insulin needs to be changed. Some times oral diabetic drugs can also be added. Some times diet/exercise failure /stress/infection/ thyroid dysfunction in the body does not allow your sugars to come under control.

it can be only control by any system of medicines. IN HYPOTHYROIDISM:--- where there is deficiency of thyroxine hormone leading to sluggishness, tired feeling, weight increase, slow heart beats, intolerance to cold, swelling of legs, feet and face, difficulty in concentrating and at times in speech. Treatment for hypothyroidism is giving thyroxine tablets. And dose are according to level of thyroid for life time. Avoid bad habits . Avoid stress. Some Relax during work. Go for walk, Take plenty of water, high-carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, rice, pasta and bread. Nutrient-rich foods that improve your health may also benefit your thyroid gland, antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables more plenty of water: Blueberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, and other foods rich in antioxidants can improve overall health and benefit the thyroid gland. Eating foods high in B vitamins, like whole grains, may also help. flax oil, Selenium: Tiny amounts of selenium are needed for enzymes that make thyroid hormones to work properly. Eating selenium-rich foods, such as sunflower seeds or Brazil nuts, can be beneficial. Tyrosine: This amino acid is used by the thyroid gland to produce T3 and T4. Taking a supplement may help, avoid oily foods,junk foods, go for walk. Do Tests every 3 to 6 months. And consult doctor on time.

Mr. Lybrate-user, there are no medicines to control the craving for sweets. Sometimes, if patients use artificial sweeteners, then those chemicals increase the craving for sweets. Controlling craving is entirely in your hands. If you do not control then blood sugar is bound to very high. I am sure you are aware what serious complications result from uncontrolled diabetes, things like retinopathy leading to blindness, damage to kidney leading to end stage renal failure, severe neuropathy, non- healing ulcers on foot leading to gangrene and amputation, silent heart attacks etc. So choice is yours, either control the cravings or face/invite complications. I am 65 years old man. Suffering from diabetes since last 15 years. Taking Glutowin fort tablets 2 in morning and 1.5 in evening before lunch. In early morning before breakfast I take piopod 30 daily My sugar remains fasting 100 to 110. Ppbs remains 170 to 175. I do not have common symptoms like frequent urine. Pain in legs. Pain in back etc. Secondly I am not having sexual emotions, it is weak To control sugar and sexual activeness please Guide me.

Requires detailed investigation and examination. Preliminary investigations suggested: hb, tlc, dlc, esr, blood sugar fasting & pp, uric acid vit d urine r/e x-ray of the affected part. Anyway it may be tried sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back, knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Do not ignore it. Let it not become beginning of a bigger problem. Make sure that patient is not allergic to any of the medicines that he/she is going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, inform.

Fruit salad and blood sugar estimation by glucometer do not mix.
Eating fruits with fingers and doing blood sugar by glucometer without washing fingers with soap and water can give high blood sugar just by sugar sticking to fingers.Even cleaning finger tips with alcohol swab will not help.If eaten fruit with fingers,then wash your hand first before doing blood sugar by glucometer.

What should be the symptoms to avoid diabetes and please explain the precautions for diabetes.
Individuals can experience different signs and symptoms of diabetes, and sometimes there may be no signs. Some of the signs commonly experienced include: Frequent urination Excessive thirst Increased hunger-even though you are eating Weight loss - even though you are eating more Tiredness Lack of interest and concentration A tingling sensation or numbness or persistant pain in the hands or feet Blurred vision Frequent infections Slow-healing wounds Vomiting and stomach pain (often mistaken as the flu) Extreme fatigue Early detection and treatment of diabetes can decrease the risk of developing the complications of diabetes.Following are the tips to prevent onset/or control diabetes 1-Control Diabetes by Losing Weight:-The most significant thing which can make a big difference to your health is to lose your extra weight.This will not only lower your blood pressure but also helps lowering your cholesterol too. For woman:waist of 80 cm or more & for man:waist of 90 cm or more are at risk 2- Constant and regular food timings :-the timings at which you have your meals should be set fixed and at regular intervals each day. This will considerably improve your metabolic activity and helps reducing your weight. 3- Split your meals and eating in moderate amount:-Spliting your meals into 3-4 times per day (including snacks)and eating in fair and consistent amount , improves ur metabolic rate as the food u take is not concentrated at one time. 4- No long Gaps and skipping of meals:-There should be no long gaps between meals.Never miss out breakfast. 5- No overeating:-Never eat in a bulk on one time .Try to have moderate amount of food each time u eat.It will help maintain your blood sugar at a healthy level and wont let it to fluctuate.Remember to eat your food slowly, chew well. 6- Proper Exercise and work outs:-Exercise is very important and a fast way to trim down calories ,extra weight and controlling glucose level.Brisk walking for 30 min.atleast five times a week is the best and easiest way of excersicing.You can also try Cycling,swimming,dancing.Timings for exercise should be fixed and regular.Avoid heavy exercise.Do not eat right away after a workout . 7-constant and regular timings for medication 8-Avoid fried foods and meat:Limit fats and sweets.Rather choose a variety of foods including whole grains, fresh vegetables, salads, fruits, low fat dairy products. 9- Take high-fiber and complex carbohydrates:-as they are easily broken down to basic sugars. Add whole grain foods in your diet.Avoid carbohydrates like white bread, pasta, pizza , candies, and snacks.Instead include high-fiber carbohydrates like wheat bran,flaxseed and methi seeds to your wheatflour.This will increase fibre in your diet. 10-Drink enough fluids:-Keep your body well hydrated.Drink a lot of water that will help flush the toxins off your system. 11.Fresh vegetables and fruits:- gives essential benefits as these contain a lot of vital minerals as well as nutrients .Include sprouts in the diet as they are easily digestible and a rich source of nutrients. 12- Avoid excess salt:-in form of pickles/papads etc..just 1 tsp(5 gm)is sufficient for a healthy diabetic hypertensive individual. 13-Avoid alcohol consumption:-Alcohols such as beer and wine contains large amount of calories .choose sugar-free drink. 14- dairy products :-Dairy products are high on fat content such as cheese, curd, milk etc.So instead consume skimmed milk products , low fat cheese, yogurt (curd) etc.Do not have more than two cups of tea or coffee every day.Try green tea instead.

Both high levels of ldl cholesterol in your body and improper blood vessel functioning increase the chances of developing type 2 diabetes. Recently a study conducted by the harvard university proved that having a fixed amount of walnuts per week was instrumental in lowering the risk of getting diabetes. This study consisted of a detailed analysis of the health and lifestyle of about 138, 000 women over the last 10 years. They were asked in every two years about their health and daily routine. Once in every four years, they disclosed information about their daily diet and the kind of food they had and how often they had it. When the research was initiated none of the participants were suffering from diabetes, while at the end of it there were nearly 6000 women who had been diagnosed with the condition. The study led researchers towards the conclusion that those women who consumed 57 or more grams of walnut every week (which is equivalent to 14 walnuts/week) reduced their risk of getting diabetes by 24%, and those who ate about 28 grams of walnut per week ensured 13% lower chances of developing diabetes.

So, start eating walnuts today to get the most of its health benefits. You can have them as a snack or you can add chopped nuts to your usual foods like rice, soups, smoothies or breakfast cereals to keep diabetes at bay.

Mr. Lybrate-user, tagara, is supposed to be helping in calming down the mind and also inducing sleep. It seems to be fairly safe, from various reports that are published. But my advise is better not to go in for any medication for sleep induction. If one exercises regularly for over 1 hour a day, maintains blood glucose levels well with in normal limits, practices pranayam and simple relaxation techniques, then there is no need for such medications. Usually increased thyroid dont have any direct effect on muscles. The pain is due to vit E deficiency. Apply orthomove oil over calf and hand. Consult for any other help.

Yes please add third Insulin at night at time of sleeping. Lantus start with 10 units. Then tell after 3 days.
