Mr. Lybrate-user, if one has well controlled diabetes then fasting sugar should be closer to 100mg and pp should be 150 to 160 mg/100 ml and hba1c% <7. If you have maintained these readings consistently then diabetes is in control. With that one is able to prevent or postpone the long term complications of diabetes, which are very serious. You have not given all the details to give any suggestions. Plus there is no mention about fasting, pp sugar levels, hba1c%, dietary pattern and extent of daily exercise. Without these details it is difficult to give any suggestions. As regards the combination drug that you are taking, voglibose in that is supposed to be taken with the food. Glimepiride before food and metformin is ideally after food but can be taken earlier too. I prefer to give voglibose separately along with food.

Hello Madam, Your prospective partner's thyroid reports are normal. He definitely needs to take the thyronorm all his life and he needs to get his thyroid tests done every 6-12 months. As long as his thyroid function tests are normal he should hopefully not have any symptoms. Low sex drive, erectile dysfunction, infertility etc are observed if the patient's thyroid function tests are abnormal and it has been found that even in these patients the symptoms become better/disappear after the patient has been on thyroxine supplemention for six months. May I also suggest you if you could directly ask your prospective partner about this. I wish you all the best Hope this has helped you Thank you.

Will eating dates on regular basis not increase blood sugar level in diabetic patients?

Will eating dates on regular basis not increase blood sugar level in diabetic patients?
lybrate-user, Yes eating dates repeatedly in substantial number will definitely increase blood glucose level. So one can consume just 2 or 3 dates a day, that too when blood glucose is well in check. Thanks.

Gentle massage over knees with lukewarm herbal pain relieving oils daily for about 15-20 minutes and hot fomentation afterwards will greatly help in subsiding the pain. These procedures would give strength to your knee and reduce the pain and stiffness. Regular oiling the joint will improve the lubrication also. Use knee caps over the joints and avoid over exertion of the joint. This will greatly help. Although some herbal medicines might also help you but after proper history taking.

Does whole grains like wheat flour, oats give glucose supply for brain as I have read in the Lybrate as I am diabetic 39 years old pls advice.

Dear lybrate-user, Glucose is the end product of carbohydrate digestion. Any food that has carbs will finally be broken down to simple sugar glucose for absorption into the body. This glucose gives energy to brain. Hence consumption of complex carbs like whole wheat flour or multigrain flour or oats does give glucose and it is released slowly into the blood stream helping to manage diabetes. Regards

Diabetes and bp can be controlled by 1. Diet - reduce sugars and salt in your diet reduce intake of rice 2. Excercise ---exercise everyday for 1hour either in the form of walking or playing sports 3. Take meds regularly if already taking 4. Check sugar levels and bp regularly.

Hypo & hyper glycemia are common problems asscociated with diabetes which might lead to headache. It is very im[ortant to keep blood glucose levels in check. 1. Kindly have small frequent meals at 2-3 hrs intervals 2. Avoid feasting & fasting 3. Exercise daily but not on empty stomach 4. Be physically active all the time 5. Lose some weight. Losing weight will improve your health a lot. 6. Have fibre rich foods like whole fruits, salads, stews, vegetables, seeds, nuts, whole grains (millets, atta, brown rice, dalia, suji), whole legumes (sprouts, rajma, soyabean). 7. take medicines to reduced thyroid.Standard treatment for hypothyroidism involves daily use of the synthetic thyroid hormone levothyroxine (Levothroid, Synthroid, others). This oral medication restores adequate hormone levels, reversing the signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism. One to two weeks after starting treatment, you'll notice that you're feeling less fatigued. The medication also gradually lowers cholesterol levels elevated by the disease and may reverse any weight gain. Treatment with levothyroxine is usually lifelong, but because the dosage you need may change, your doctor is likely to check your TSH level every year. Determining proper dosage may take time To determine the right dosage of levothyroxine initially, your doctor generally checks your level of TSH after two to three months. Excessive amounts of the hormone can cause side effects, such as: Increased appetite Insomnia Heart palpitations Shakiness If you have coronary artery disease or severe hypothyroidism, your doctor may start treatment with a smaller amount of medication and gradually increase the dosage. Progressive hormone replacement allows your heart to adjust to the increase in metabolism. Levothyroxine causes virtually no side effects when used in the appropriate dose and is relatively inexpensive. If you change brands, let your doctor know to ensure you're still receiving the right dosage. Also, don't skip doses or stop taking the drug because you're feeling better. If you do, the symptoms of hypothyroidism will gradually return. Proper absorption of levothyroxine Certain medications, supplements and even some foods may affect your ability to absorb levothyroxine. Talk to your doctor if you eat large amounts of soy products or a high-fiber diet or you take other medications, such as: Iron supplements Cholestyramine Aluminum hydroxide, which is found in some antacids Calcium supplements If you have subclinical hypothyroidism, discuss treatment with your doctor. For a relatively mild increase in TSH, you probably won't benefit from thyroid hormone therapy, and treatment could even be harmful. On the other hand, for a higher TSH level, thyroid hormones may improve your cholesterol level, the pumping ability of your heart and your energy level.

Hello, Thanks for the query. Normal blood glucose level for all age groups and for male and female is fasting 70 to 110 mg & PP <140 mg. If fasting gose above 126 mg and PP above 200 mg then it is diabetes. Treatment is required for those persons. Plus diet control and exercise are also needed. Thanks.
