10 Things You Must Know About Procrastination

Procrastination is a way of sabotaging oneself by putting off activities and delaying success. This is an emotional and mental obstacle that many people face in varying degrees. So here is everything you need to know about procrastination.

  1. It becomes a lifestyle: As per medical research, about 20% of the people who procrastinate, have been doing it on a chronic basis and can now safely say that this is a lifestyle and not just a habit that one has fallen prey to.
  2. It is cultivated: Contrary to popular belief, procrastination is not something that anyone is born with. It is cultivated with constant inaction over a period of years, which also includes the act of making excuses to put off a task.
  3. Excessive alcohol consumption: In many cases, procrastinators will end up enjoying higher consumption of alcohol than their contemporaries. This may be done to alleviate boredom before the excessive consumption becomes a habit, which further dulls the senses.
  4. Hiding from the truth: It has been seen that procrastinators often lie to themselves or hide the truth about their problem by making mindless excuses, which do not actually exist. They are chronic liars who come to believe their lies, which can give rise to even more severe behavioural issues.
  5. Distractions: Most people who procrastinate will look for distractions that will keep them from doing their work properly. This may include watching television or eating, or even doing mindless chores that are not important.
  6. Focus: Many of these procrastinators have problems when it comes to focusing and finding solutions for various tasks. They cannot prioritise and put their mind to a certain task, which also prevents them from understanding the requirements for completing that task.
  7. Avoiders: These types of procrastinators usually avoid doing the tasks that will lead them to success. They do not make the effort to carry out the necessary tasks in a proper manner.
  8. Decisional procrastinators: These kind of procrastinators simply cannot find the motivation to take a decision that will change the direction of their lives by putting one step in front of the other on a daily basis.
  9. Cost of procrastination: There is a huge cost that is borne by these kinds of people in the long run. While missing deadlines, losing jobs and not graduating from college are just some of the consequences, many of them also come down with a plethora of health conditions including gastrointestinal diseases.
  10. Therapy for procrastination: The best way to transform a procrastinator is with the help of cognitive behavioural therapy, which can help in reprogramming the brain with fruitful, guided discussions and internal dialogues. This kind of therapy works well in the long run.

For skin problems, we need to see the case to come to any conclusion. Without visualizing the condition, it is difficult to come to any conclusion regarding skin disease. So if possible, do visit the clinic or book an online appointment for the treatment. Fungal infection usually occurs recurrently, so the type of infection needs to be analysed. It may be either allergic, scabies, fungal, urticaria, eczema, psoriasis, lupus or any other disease. For this, you need to take proper homeopathic treatment along with maintaining of hygienic conditions.

I am facing poor Digestion problem, constipation and lack of appetite. Suggest me some syrup or medicine to heal it.
Take care of your eating habits, please make it a point that too bitter, too sour, salty, hot, pungent, dry and burning foods are to be avoided as such foods cause distress, misery and disease. Thus deep frying foods or foods taking lot of oil as in gravy vegetables, salty foods, spicy foods, long preserved, frozen foods, junk foods like pizzas burgers chips are to be avoided. Drink two glasses of warm water on empty stomach every morning about 30 minutes before breakfast. Try it! this works amazingly! in addition, walk fast for 30 minutes every day or engage in some service every day. Please also do meditation regularly and sincerely which has been scientifically proved for overall health. Use parsley and jeera seeds while cooking vegetables.

The Surgical Treatment For Portal Hypertension!

FELLOWSHIP IN HEPATOBILIARY AND LIVER TRANSPLANT SURGERY, Fellowship in Abdominal Multi Organ Transplant Surgery, MS - General Surgery, MBBS Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
Gastroenterologist, Delhi
The Surgical Treatment For Portal Hypertension!

There are veins which carry blood from the various digestive organs to the liver. When there is an obstruction in the free flow of blood in the liver, it increases the pressure and is known as portal hypertension. This increased blood pressure stresses the blood vessels in the esophagus, stomach, and other digestive organs and results in internal bleeding.

What causes portal hypertension?
Cirrhosis is the most common cause of portal hypertension. The cirrhosis could be a result of excessive consumption of alcohol, chronic hepatitis, or thrombosis in the liver vessels. Blood clots in the portal vein are schistosomiasis ( a parasitic infection) are some other causes of portal hypertension. It is also important to know that in some cases, the causes of this condition remain unknown.

What are the symptoms?
Although, the symptoms of portal hypertension may not be very evident until you identify that there is some damage in the liver. the chances of developing a portal hypertension are increased if you suffer from a liver disease.

  • Ascites, which is fluid accumulation in the abdominal cavity
  • Bleeding in the abdominal vessels
  • Blood in the stools and/or vomitus (black tarry stools or blood in the vomitus)
  • Reduced platelet count
  • Encephalopathy, fluid accumulation in the brain, which can lead to confusion and other issues

How can it be managed?
Once diagnosed, treatment of portal hypertension is at two levels.
At the first level, dietary and lifestyle changes and medical treatment should suffice.

  1. Alcohol, a street drug, and tobacco use should be completely stopped. Sodium and protein intake should be reduced.
  2. Avoid taking any over-the-counter medications without consulting a medical personnel.
  3. Have a good, balanced nutrition
  4. Medications like propranolol are given to control blood pressure
  5. Medications are also given to prevent internal bleeding
  6. If there is encephalopathy, then lactulose is given to clear confusion
  7. The ends of the bleeding vessels are tied and cut off (ligated) endoscopically, and this is known as sclerotherapy. Alternately, bands may be applied to the cut vessels to prevent further bleeding. This is known as banding.

If this first line does not work, then the next level of interventional therapy is initiated.

  • TIPS, which is a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt, which is a shunt that is placed into the liver to reduce pressure.
  • Distal splenorenal shunt (DRSR) is when a shunt or link is created between the splenic vein and the left kidney vein. This also helps control variceal pressure and bleeding.
  • Both these shunts are widely performed and require follow up once in 6 months to ensure they are performing well and without any blockages.

Other options:

  • In cases where a shunt is not possible, then devascularization is done. This involves removal of the bleeding varices.
  • The fluid in the abdomen may be removed surgically by paracentesis.
  • As a last option, a liver transplant surgery may also be considered.

So, while portal hypertension definitely is a serious medical condition, there are different levels of treatment. The important thing is to alert yourself once any symptoms set in. Early intervention always ensures minimal intervention and good prognosis.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
