Dear lybrate user. I can understand. Smoking cigarettes can cause cancer and other respiratory problems. The best method is to change your attitude. You can use your will power to quit smoking. There are other methods like deaddiction therapy. But without willpower none will work. Therefore best and most effective way is to use your will power. Take care.

Committing or trying to commit suicide is not a way of showing our importance in others' lives. I can completely understand the level of stress you are going through, but there is always a better way of handling it. I sincerely feel that your depressive symptoms, self harm thoughts and being overweight could be a part of hormonal imbalance. So I would advise you to do a complete hormonal profile including thyroid hormones, serum dhea levels, serum testosterone levels etc. Consult a gynecologist to rule out pcod if you continue to feel depressed and have feelings of hopelessness nad worthlessness, I would recommend you to visit a psychiatrist personally and start treatment and counselling. Depression is treatable so are hormonal problem. I am sure you will feel much better after treatments.

Dear friend, why is it that one expects things to go in a desired way all the time? how can it be possible? this demand for things to go in a certain way is the root cause of worry/stress. If you look back at your life events, everything happens in a ordained way. Unburden yourself, leave the results to destiny!

Recently my friend is passed away. So I'm mentally affect them I'm not normal now. What I do?
The loss of a friend is very difficult to take especially if s/he was a young person. This loss will make you feel sad and you must express this feeling to someone who will lend a listening ear. If you have to weep, please go ahead and do so. Crying is very cathartic to grief. All the thoughts, experiences, good times, the shared moments etc. need to be spoken about and this process may take some time but will be very useful to dealing with this loss. A visit to the family and expressing your condolences and sharing your relationships with the person will be beneficial too. Do not wallow in the misery but make it an expressive and sincere experience. Of course in all this the idea is to move the emotion out of your system, and finish with the grieving. You must realize that eventually you must move on and show more importance to the living and those left behind who also need to complete the process. Attend whatever rituals, memorials, prayer meetings, and ceremonies that are held as a method of finishing with the process of grieving. Once these are all done you must focus on life and move on. The vacuum s/he has left behind must be duly filled by another person after some time and you must feel like you have done adequate justice to his/her memory. You yourself must get back to life with a vigor and into routines that are useful to your well being. You can then carry fond memories and live in peace with that.

Achilles tendonitis or heel pain or plantar fasciitis is a very common condition. During night our feet are in a downward position which causes their stiffness. When we try to straighten them in the morning, they are stretched and hence the pain. You can start by doing feet stretching exercises in the morning before getting down from the bed and do ice packs.

My husband is molesting our girl child, but refuses to admit & gets very furious, when confronted. It is causing lot of stress on me & creating differences between us. I don't want to take any extreme step, as it may ruin my child's life. What should I do?

Dear, there is no need to take the extreme step. This problem can be cleared just by alerting him. You cannot do that because he justifies himself and will confront you. Let some trained psychologist do the alerting job. Some how take him to a psychologist. If you desire so, I can also provide my services through mobile or through online. Please convince him to talk to me. Take care.

I am suffering from pain in region including lower abdomen and scrotal sac I think it might be orchitis but I'm not sure. Pain occurs suddenly and is sharp in nature. History of present illness is past 3 months as pain occurs suddenly no fixed time. I had my USG OF ABDOMEN DONE. IT WAS NORMAL. I also fear of it to be hernia? But actually what it is and proper treatment for it.

May be a simple pull on the testis during some inadvertant jump of vehicle over some speed breaker or a pothole on the road, because your USG is reportedly normal ( ruling out a ureteric stone, which could cause a raditing pain in lower abdomen to scrotal sac ), and you are not complaining of burning or obstructed urination hence less likely to be due to bladder infection. Try to wear a लंगोट to support the testis for 15 days and drive cautiously in rough roads. I hope it will subside after that.

My grand son is uncontrollable. He throws the things on slightest talking. He appears as he feeling unsecured. Doctors say that he is hyperactive for which they suggested to consult a therapist who gave some exercises to him for one hour on weekly basis for about one and a half year but we did not see improvement.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
I think that your kid does have hyperactivity. My assessment is that he may have extraordinary intelligence and that he is getting frustrated with the low level of expectation on him. For that level of intelligence, he needs highly stimulating challenges to his mind. I suggest you try higher grade school material and see how he fares. Train him in some simple relaxation exercises from Yoga, to naturally calm himself down. Make him do some active exercises everyday and try to exhaust him physically. Get him some highly challenging jigsaw puzzles, some mechanical toys, and those large 3,000-piece puzzles etc. These will teach him patience, self-control, and help him to slow down too. Give him a lot of physical affection and contact. Reduce high-energy foods from his diet. Give him a lot of fiber food too. Cut out milk for some time as suggested, and see if this has any noticeable effect. If it does, then give him calcium supplements. There are some good concentration exercises that will help him too. His environment must be very stimulating to occupy his intelligent mind. If you can admit him into a Montessori school, that would be the best place for him. I really like your observational comment: ?He appears as though he is feeling insecure? This could after all be an emotional problem where he is learning an early bad habit of dealing with his fear by acting angry. You must talk to him and give him permission to share his fears or insecurities without ridiculing or demeaning him. As he talks about it, he will definitely show remarkable changes.
