If you have recurrent attack of headache 1. It could be a tension headache due to anxiety/stress, depression inadequate sleep, low bp/high bp, migraine, prolonged use of cell phone/computer, chronic anaemia, refractive error, chronic sinusitis, organic brain lesion 2. Avoid stress, physical and mental exertion, have adequate sound sleep for 7-8 hours daily in the night 3. Go for regular exercise 4. Practice yoga, meditation and deep breathing exercise to calm your mind, control your emotion and relieve stress 5. Check for refractive error, sinusitis hemoglobin, bp 6. Avoid prolonged use of cell phone/computer 7. Consult neurologist to rule out other causes of headache, if required take a ct scan of head to exclude any brain lesion 8. If it is migraine you have to take migraine prophylactic drug after consulting neurologist.

My weights 83 kgs with a height of 6 feet. And I want to lose weight as according to my BMI calculation I am in overweight category now. Please suggest me how I can lose weight upto 10 kgs as early as possible. I runs daily morning for 2 kms at normal speed but then after doing that I remained tired and feel dizziness for whole of the day and it affects my study a lot. Please suggest me a proper diet plan and other measures to solve out my issue.

Hye, thanks for the query. Firstly it is important to understand that weight /fat loss involves sensible eating. Just running as exercise without concentrating on eating right as per your body's needs is not going to help. You must know that losing weight is not about restriction or crashing your diet but about eating as per the body's needs. So, manage a nutritious diet fist so that you have the stamina to workout right. You have to eat the right foods at the right time. Eat small but frequent meals. Reduce your main meals by 1/4th the amount. Take a glass of lime water 10 minutes before meals. Avoid long gaps in between meals. Avoid junk as far as possible. Exercise at least 4 times a week. Lastly be committed. Remember it's a lifestyle change and not a one time thing. It's a balanced intake that will last you longer. All the so called diets will only give you muscle and bone loss. The fats will remain as it is. So, try to first follow this seemingly simple tips.

Hello Doctor, I have a habit of snoring while sleeping. It starts from the throat and is loud. How can I prevent this?

It has to be taken seriously if you have disturbed sleep & choking spells awakening you in the night & additionally having daytime drowsiness, affecting the quality of your work. Losing weight can help if above mentioned complications are absent. Best go to the nearest ENT for proper evidence based assessment & treatment.

I'm 22 years old I am having suddenly having alcohol problems, I get rapid heartbeat, metallic taste in mouth, dizziness, red eyes after a drink, if I drink more these symptoms gets severe even vomiting. Please help me find a solution to this problem. I never had these kind of problems before.

These are symptoms of alcohol intoxication occurring due to abnormal rise in blood alcohol level. The dizziness occurs as the inner ear hair cells (responsible for balance) malfunction because of high alcohol levels. Initially this will become normal once blood alcohol normalises with repeated such symptoms there's a real risk of permanent problem. Get a pta tympanometry lft (liver function test) done to rule out any damage. You can share your reports on lybrate. Hope this helps

Lifestyle changes to stop snoring Lose weight. If you’re overweight, dropping even a few pounds can reduce fatty tissue in the back of the throat and decrease or even stop snoring. Exercise can also help to stop snoring. As well aiding weight loss, exercising your arms, legs, and abs, for example, also leads to toning the muscles in your throat, which in turn can lead to less snoring. There are also specific exercises you can do to strengthen the muscles in your throat (see below). Quit smoking. Quitting is easier said than done, but smoking irritates the membranes in the nose and throat which can block the airways and cause snoring. Get help with quitting here. Avoid alcohol, sleeping pills, and sedatives because they relax the muscles in the throat and interfere with breathing. Talk to your doctor about any prescription medications you’re taking, as some encourage a deeper level of sleep which can make snoring worse. Establish regular sleep patterns. Create a healthy bedtime ritual with your partner and stick to it. Hitting the sack in a routine way together can help you sleep better and often minimize snoring. Bedtime remedies to help you stop snoring Clear nasal passages. If you have a stuffy nose, rinse sinuses with saline before bed. Using a Neti pot, nasal decongestant, or nasal strips can also help you breathe more easily while sleeping. If you have allergies, reduce dust mites and pet dander in your bedroom or use an allergy medication. Keep bedroom air moist. Dry air can irritate membranes in the nose and throat, so if swollen nasal tissues are the problem, a humidifier may help. Change your sleeping position. Elevating your head four inches may ease breathing and encourage your tongue and jaw to move forward. There are specially designed pillows available to help prevent snoring by making sure your neck muscles are not crimped. Sleep on your side instead of your back. Try attaching a tennis ball to the back of a pajama top or T-shirt. (You can sew a sock to the back of your top then put a tennis ball inside.) If you roll over onto your back, the discomfort of the tennis ball will cause you to turn back onto your side. Alternatively, wedge a pillow stuffed with tennis balls behind your back. After a while, sleeping on your side will become a habit and you can dispense with the tennis balls. Try an anti-snoring mouth appliance. These devices often resemble an athlete’s mouth guard and help open your airway by bringing your lower jaw and/or your tongue forward during sleep. Do steam inhalation 2-3 times daily, Take one tablet of crocin 500mg sos after food if there is headache, and put otrivin nasal drop. If no relief you have to take antibiotic. consult

Diabetes care – tips Follow the doctor’s advice properly Eat plenty of vegetables Have sufficient fibres in your diet e.g. salads Cut down on sugar/ sweets Cut down on salty processed foods Cut down on energy dense, processed food - such as crisps, cakes, biscuits and pastries Make at least an hour rigorous physical activity part of your daily life i.e. jogging/ brisk walking/ running/ gym/ else you like Yoga/ meditation will help you in reducing stress level If you are non-vegies Eat fish regularly Cut down on processed meat but no problem with fresh (unprocessed) meat/ chicken If you are alcoholic/ smoker Cut down on alcohol/ smoking Check your Blood Pressure/ Cholesterol level (Lipid Profile)/ Renal Function Tests regularly. Take medicines regular to keep controlled your blood sugar as advised by your doctor. Remember, not only medicines, all the advices of doctor are precious and very useful.

Hello, Few lifestyle changes can help you in controlling and preventing the high blood pressure, even if you're taking blood pressure medication. Eat healthy foods. Consume more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish and low-fat dairy foods. Eat less saturated fat and trans fat. Decrease the salt in your diet. So, avoid eating processed foods, such as canned soups or frozen dinners which contains extra salt in it. Keeping a healthy weight, or losing weight if you're overweight or obese, can help you control your high blood pressure and lower your risk of related health problems. Increase physical activity which can help lowering your blood pressure, manage stress, reduce your risk of several health problems. Get indulged in regular exercising (if your doctor allows you). Limit alcohol. Even if you're healthy, alcohol can raise your blood pressure. If you choose to drink alcohol, do so in moderation. Don't smoke. Tobacco injures blood vessel walls and speeds up the process of hardening of the arteries. Reduce stress as much as possible. Practice healthy coping techniques, such as muscle relaxation, deep breathing or meditation. Getting regular physical activity and plenty of sleep can help, too. Monitor your blood pressure at home. Vertigo is very common these days in any age group due to excess of noise exposure and damage to inner ear, humming sound, whistling and giddiness are the problems which are getting in people are very common these days, these get complicated when they are not taken care of at proper time whistling or buzzing in the ear is getting commoner these days in people of all ages. Most common causes is wax or any object in the ear, after getting your ears clean these gets over. But if ears are already clean than this is worrisome. Common causes which are responsible are high cholesterol diet, alcohol, smoking, loud noises, cervical spondylosis, trauma (self or inflicted) over the ears. If this is the situation than report to your ent doctor immediately tinnitus is basically due to hampered blood supply to ears due to which ears start dying. As this process starts a person starts hearing noises. When a person starts hearing noises then it is already late diagnosis as these noises gets heard by someone when they are of 40 db intensity, below that threshold these noises are not heard. So it is already to late and the damage has become permanent. Problem with these noises are that we can control at what level person goes to his specialist otherwise these noises keep on increasing and can give you headache frustration and depression. Now a days tinnitus maskers are available which help you to lead your life peacefully. Giddiness is never the side effect of medication. And you need to show up for psychiatrist.

Giddiness, vomiting and breathlessness in mountain can be due to mountain sickness. For erectyle dysfuction have faith in you and can consult a urologist. For hair loss have good diet and scalp message.

Sudden nose bleeds occur occasionally. Dont blame your body. Whenever nose bleeds, take sitting position and pinch your nose for atleast 10 min. Take breathe from mouth. Bleeding stops mostly. Later you can put ice cold packs around your nose. If you have habit of nose picking, then you need to stop it.
