my mother had Brain clot and stroke what is it and what treatment & consequences are there. Currently admitted in hospital. suggestion required.?

MD - Pathology
General Physician, Amritsar
Brain clot obstructs blood supply to the part of brain that is being supplied blood by that particular blood vessel. This will impair functioning of part of body which is controlled by that part of brain. If blood clot is dissolved within 6 hours, there is no resultant deficit. If weakness or paralysis of any part occurs, it has to be treated with physiotherapy. If there is lies of speech, speech therapist will help. Medical treatment will continue for sometime, with physiotherapy and patient's will power and attendant's support, threes painters shows remarkable recovery.

Pain is complex phenomenon , so there are many treatment options medications, therapies, and mind-body techniques. Apart from pain killers,There is evidence that certain dietary supplements and vitamins can help with certain types of pain. Fish oil is often used to reduce pain associated with swelling. A therapeutic diet complemented with few medications for pain management can also work wonders. Do reply back for medication prescriptions.Being also a General Physician, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

Hello, I am high BP problem since last 2 years and I am taking BETACARD 25 mg tablet for it. Now I want to stop this ...
Your BP is in control because of the medication. If this medication is leading to side effects, you can request your treating doctor to change it. There are other medications available as well. Also follow diet precautions and exercise daily for 40-45 mins. Prescribing medication online without seeing your records, as well as Blood pressure trend, will not be a good idea, so consult a cardiologist locally and stay connected with them, because BP medication require titration from time to time.

Smoking - How Quitting It Is Good For Your Heart?

MBBS, DM - Cardiology, MD
Cardiologist, Hyderabad
Smoking - How Quitting It Is Good For Your Heart?

If you are concerned about the health of your heart, one of the primary and most important things to do is quit smoking. Avoiding and abstaining from smoking will heal the nicotine damage caused to your heart. This will enable you to lead a long and healthy life. Here are the reasons why you should quit smoking for the sake of your heart:

  1. Reduced risk of heart attack: The benefits of not smoking start hours after you quit, and the heart rate and blood pressure get normalised slowly. By quitting smoking, your chances of having a heart attack are reduced by 50%.
  2. In case of women, quitting smoking has special benefits: Women generally have a smaller body frame than men, and the harmful effects of smoking on a woman’s heart are considered to be more dangerous and concentrated. Female smokers under the age of sixty are more likely to experience a condition known as cholesterol plaque erosion, which is a fatal blood vessel condition. Women smokers are likely (seven times more than men) to develop heart complications due to smoking.
  3. When you quit smoking, your heart is no longer exposed to harmful chemicals: Cigarette smoke contains toxins such as arsenic, formaldehyde and benzene. The chemical substances may be hazardous to the blood vessels in your body, and the heart muscles get damaged. Once you quit smoking, these chemicals will no longer enter your body, making your heart healthier.
  4. Quitting smoking benefits other people as well: When children and people are exposed to tobacco smoke, their chances of having plaque in their heart’s arteries are enhanced. This may cause a stroke.
  5. Quitting smoking reduces the chances of getting hospitalised: A smoker may be at the risk for getting hospitalised because of several conditions such as congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, much more than a non-smoker. After quitting smoking, the chances of being hospitalised decrease within five years.
  6. Quitting smoking lowers the risk of having atherosclerosis: Atherosclerosis is a blood vessel disease which is caused due to inflammations all over the body. Because of this, the arteries may stiffen and thicken. Smokers face the risk of acquiring this condition three times more than non-smokers.

You can quit smoking most effectively by combining behavioural support along with prescribed medication. People using this type of multi-treatment are likely to become successful at quitting smoking. You should consult a specialist who is certified in tobacco treatment, who will provide you with a plan. It will include counselling, medicines and a nicotine replacement therapy. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Cardiologist.

ECG can give condition of functioning of the heart. It does not give a direct reference to the presence of blockages, although, sever disturbance in ECG can indicate blockage kind of disease. 2D Echo reports will be required to see if damage is so extensive that angioplasty is required. Rotablade may not be the best option for treatment. Angiography is an invasive, extensive visual study of the condition of blood vessels supplying nutrition to the heart, the treatment that follows would be implanting a stent or ballooning. There are other options that are non invasive and medicine based. If you can take a private consultation with our doctors, we will be able to help you better.

How to control heart attacks and taking precautions against heart attacks and taking first aid precautions?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

How to control heart attacks and taking precautions against heart attacks and taking first aid precautions?
Improving your diet is an important step toward preventing heart disease, but you may feel unsure where to begin. Take a look at the big picture: your overall eating patterns are more important than obsessing over individual foods. No single food can make you magically healthy, so your goal can be to incorporate a variety of healthy foods prepared in healthy ways into your diet, and make these habits your new lifestyle. Eat More: Healthy fats: raw nuts, olive oil, fish oils, flax seeds, or avocados Eat less: Trans fats from partially hydrogenated or deep-fried foods; saturated fats from whole-fat dairy or red meat Eat more: Nutrients: colorful fruits and vegetables?fresh or frozen, prepared without butter Eat less: Packaged foods, especially those high in sodium and sugar Eat more: Fiber: cereals, breads, and pasta made from whole grains or legumes Eat less: White or egg breads, sugary cereals, refined pastas or rice Eat more: Omega 3 and protein: fish and shellfish, poultry Eat less: Red meat, bacon, sausage, fried chicken Eat more: Calcium and protein: Egg whites, skim or 1% milk, low-fat or nonfat cheeses or unsweetened yogurt Eat less: Whole or 2 percent milk, whole milk products like cheese or yogurt, or yogurt with added sugar.
