Pls follow the doctor prescribed medicine. Which controls the diabetics and will not allow you increase. But along with medication, you need to concentrate on food also. Make sure you food must have high protein, fiber and omega-3 nutrition. Its good to have more protein. What we suggest is the nutrigemoic protein, who certified, with 9 essential amino acids. This will help you cure your diabetics in a year time. But you will definitely have a result, if you can use protein with vitamins and minerals, fiber and omega-3 supplements,

Mr. Lybrate-user, by saying thyroid 15.04 are you referring to tsh level? if so it is very high. On treatment it should be around 3 to 4 milli units. As for vitamin d, best source is to get exposed to early morning sun. There are vitamin d3 supplements available, they can be used. More importantly your hypothyroidism needs to be checked properly. Thanks for the question.

How thyroid happens?

Do you mean hypothyroidism? this happens because of the deficient functioning of thyroid gland leading to reduced production of thyroxine. Some times this happens because iodine deficiency in the diet. That is why in india iodinated salt is marketed.

Hi. I'm a diabetics patients. And i'm 45 yrs old. So please suggest me what to eat nd what to not to maintain my suga...
The moment we get diagnosed with diabetes, our minds cringe in fear by the thought of all the restraint on our life, especially diet, which would be imposed on us for a lifetime, taking away the joy from celebrations and fun eat out sessions etc. Diet management is of utmost importance in diabetes not only to control blood sugar levels but also to keep other risks such as body weight and heart risk factors at bay. People with HbA1c levels mild to moderately elevated (<7.5%) at diagnosis, may be advised to take a diet and lifestyle modification trial before they are put on any drugs and some of these people will be able to control their diabetes/pre-diabetes for a significant amount of time without drugs. Even for people on drugs or insulin diet and lifestyle management is equally important. But, the evidence based medical advice, on diet for diabetics, is not that restrictive and allows a lot of room for having fun with food! All the expert agencies on diabetes in the world, such as ADA, AACE, IDF and our own ICMR, have published guidelines on managing your diet in diabetes, which we at FWI analyzed to formulate our advice for diabetics, which you will find below: The three most important considerations in diet management in diabetic people are: Managing the carbohydrate intake to control blood sugar Managing the overall calorie intake to lose weight or to maintain a healthy weight Keeping the intake bad fats and salt in check to reduce the risk of CVD 1. Managing the carbohydrate intake to control blood sugar Diabetes is a primarily a disease of insulin resistance or insulin deficiency, in which the physiological action of insulin, that of helping in uptake of blood glucose by body cells and thereby keeping the blood sugar levels in control, is less than adequate. All dietary carbohydrates are broken down by our digestive system into glucose, which then is added to the blood. Therefore, the most important consideration to prevent or delay complications of diabetes is keeping the blood sugar levels in control Diabetics have to know their carb containing food very well and monitor their carb intake on regular basis, but they are not required to give up totally on sugar, rice or sweets, contrary to what is the general notion! Same amount of carbs whether as whole grains or table sugar, will raise the Post Prandial (two hours post meal) blood sugar to nearly the same level, so substituting regular roti with say a laddoo, once in a while is OK, provided you make sure that laddoo gives the same amount of carbs as the rotis you have given up and your overall calorie intake in the meal is constant as well. This you can manage by portion size control and carb counting But having laddoos instead of roti regularly is not a good idea because good sources of carbohydrates such as whole grains have proteins, dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals in addition, whereas bad sources such as table sugar or laddoo will not have these and will give you empty calories. Also, these sweets will be more calorie-dense (1 tablespoon sugar gives 60 calories whereas one roti gives nearly 80 calories) and will not be very filling! So, if you want to have simple sugar or sweets occasionally, make sure that you replace the healthy carbs with these sweets, such that same amount of calories and carbs are provided by them and don’t just add sweets to your regular meal Remember, quantity control and moderation are absolutely imperative! 2. Managing the overall calorie intake to lose or maintain a healthy weight Losing excess body weight helps in patients with diabetes in several ways. Besides this will help you in controlling your risk of heart diseases and a host of other diseases at the same time! In diabetes, even losing 3-5% of your existing body weight will result in better blood sugar levels, but losing up to 10% results in better blood lipid profile and reduced risk of heart disease To know more, go to ‘weight loss for diabetics’ and read your way into fitness! 3. Keeping the intake of ‘bad’ fats and salt in check to reduce the risk of CVD The complications of CVD, include heart attack, stroke (brain attack), foot gangrene etc. All complications of CVD, which is the biggest cause of death in diabetics Therefore, dietary modifications to manage risk factors for CVD are very important in diabetics. These modifications include controlling the intake of salt and ‘bad’ fats in your diet, and the recommended levels of intake are lower than those in general population Diabetics in general are often advised even by their doctors and dieticians, some times, to consume ‘low fat’ diet to manage their heart risk. But In India, where average intake of carbs is much higher than recommended intake of fat, for most people, such an advice is not only erroneous, it is harmful! (Read: Indian diet: ‘pro’s and ‘con’s, to know more) Instead what is needed is to replace the ‘bad’ fats, present in high quantities in vanaspati (found in snack items and restaurant/ fast food meals etc.), full cream milk, butter, ghee and red meat (but not mutton: read more), with vegetable oils (such as olive, canola, rice bran etc. But not coconut and palm oil)

What precautions should be adopted for diabetes curing?
Unless your lifestyle is ideal with discipline and no stress you cannot cure diabetes but you can definitely maintain it. For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - have small frequent meals. Do not fast for long hours. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Exercise and stay active. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

it is very bad if no treatment is being taken for diabetes. Uncontrolled diabetes can cause serious damage to almost all vital organs and systems in the body. Diabetes can cause retinopathy leading to blindness. It can affect small and big blood vessels affecting kidneys, heart, peripheral blood vessels. In india alone more than 1 lac legs are amputated due to diabetic foot problems. It causes severe neuropathy and loss of sensation in lower limbs. Causes silent heart attacks. I do not understand why treatment was stopped by you. If very competent doctor was treating, then his treatment and instructions should be followed. With the high blood glucose levels mentioned you will have to start on insulin injections or else you are heading for serious problems. Thanks.

Lybrate-user kailashji, from the details mentioned it appears there is a sudden increase in blood sugar after food. Fasting as in the evening low sugar can be countered by proper selection of type of insulin sued along with dosage. Plus there has to be a closer look at the dietary intake and exercise that you are doing daily. Plus now there a continuous glucose monitoring system available which when applied to your arm remains with you for 14 days, checks blood glucose level every 15 minutes (96 times a day), for 14 days, gives various graphs showing highs and lows of blood sugar, which should help your doctor to give clear guidance in terms of insulin dosage and food intake. This is called libre pro glucose monitoring system by abbott. Ask your physician or diabetologist to use and help. With regards.

Lybrate-user, your concern about developing t2 dm is quite right. Because this is a disease which does show familial trait. If both parents have diabetes then 75 % chance of children getting it. (3 out of 4 children may get). However, one thing good about t2dm is that it is a preventable disease. So if you do following things: 1) maintain normal weight, (height in cms - 100 = kgs), by regular exercise for more than 1 hour a day. 2) take a balanced diet that provides exact amount of calories needed based on ideal body weight and extent of daily exercise. 3) avoid excess sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods and pastries. Also avoid sweetened aerated drinks and fructose corn syrup containing products, high fat cheese, ghee and butter. 4) refrain from alcohol and smoking. 5) consume good deal of green leafy vegetables and salads and fruits. Also take a good deal of fiber containing foods mainly whole grain foods. If you stick these things then you can delay the onset of t2 dm or be free from it. All the best.

Hello Doctor, I want to know the reason behind my mother's sudden death. When I came from college, I saw my mother lying in kitchen, there was no scars, no pain, it seemed like she is normally sleeping in peace. I called ambulance, but they said that my mother is no more. I asked the reason to them, then they requested to do post mortem. I can not see post mortem happening with my mom's death so I refused. I do not know the reason what happened with my mom. I can tell you step by step whatever I know which may help you to find the exact reason behind my mother's sudden death. 1) My mom was a diabetic patient since 10 years and it was normal usually does up and down between 100 to 300. 2) Mom got injury on head due to table corner attack onto her head. It got swallowed so I took her to hospital in May, 2015, there they said that my mom's diabetes has been reached upto 500 and she has to be admitted in the hospital immediately to control diabetes. 3) Dr.from Hospital did treatment for 3 days and than discharged when diabetes got normal with 100. 4) We took mom at home, she was having tablets and seeming like she is recovering. 5) My mom died on 8th Sep, 2015. Prior to this day i.e. 7th Sep-she was all fine but on 8th Sep, 2015 from 1 am till morning she dint sleep. I can say she dint sleep for whole night. She said this to me while waking me up in the morning at 6 am. She also said that she dint sleep whole night DUE TO ACIDITY. 6) I than left college at 7 am by kissing her on her chick and putting her on bed to rest. She slept on bed than I do not know what happened to her as I left for college. 7) I came from college and saw my mom is lying in the kitchen peacefully, no pain on face, no scars, nothing, Seems like she is sleeping peacefully. I also saw a pan of tea, that means she had milk tea though she was having high acidity. I assume that might give her stroke and due to stroke, she might got died. But I am just assuming. Please help me knowing the exact reason behind her death. I have mentioned the whole case study and for medical records to analyse better.
