Hello sir/ mam. Please my three year old son dont want to take milk. He want to eat only roti all the time, i' m so worried about him please suggest me what I do?

Pediatrician, Pune
If he drinks 2 cups of milk in a day, it is more than sufficient, excessive milk reduces appetite, may cause iron defeciencies, he should eat rotis, and everything made at home, including dal rice vegetables, fruits, his weight is appropriate for his age, he is ok, you need not worry, we have come to be in a habit of unnecessary worry, try to avoid this, relax.

My lower stomach is paining since last two days. Is it a symptom for kidney stones.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
The pain due to kidney stones starts in lower back and is always a referred pain in abdomen and so in your case the pain is not due to kidney stones but the real cause can be found out only after physical examination.

He has completed 9 months but his weight is not increasing from 5th month. His weight is still 8 kg as he was in 5th month. I am giving him diet of meshed cereals, cerelac, and some vegetables (5 meals a day ). Also to mention that he does not like mother's milk, every time he refuses that within a minute or two. Please suggest.

He has completed 9 months but his weight is not increasing from 5th month. His weight is still 8 kg as he was in 5th ...
Don't compare his wt with 5 month's wt. Now his expected wt should be about 9 kg. 8 kg is slightly at lower side. As the child grows, his wt doesn't increase with the same pace as at younger age. I am not seeing any place of milk or its product in his 5 meals. Give him ideally 2 meals but not more than 3 meals in a day consisting of varieties like ghee added haluwa, rice/ sujee kheer, khichadi, dal-roti very small pieces, vegetables well cooked in ghee/ oil, fruits etc of his taste and to develop taste. 3-4 times sweetened milk and rest breast milk 3-4 times. Probably he may be refusing mother's milk because she may be trying to feed her own milk most of time. If it is so I hope with above regime he shall like mother's feed and start gaining wt.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
These are temporary teeth to be replaced by 6-9 years. You need not worry much. But you can carefully clean after each feed and show a dentist if you want. But giving too much chocolate is not healthy and what is the weight?

I have less breast milk. When I squeeze breast it comes in drops. My mom says it should come more. Also my baby after sucking for some time gets irritated and starts crying so I have to give him formula feed. My baby is 17 days old and my breast milk is not sufficient for him. Please help as I want to breast feed him and discontinue formula feed.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Tumkur
Don't try to squeeze as you can not get milk by that. Only way of getting adequate milk is suckling the baby. If the baby is irritated while feeding you check for proper attachment. You must stick on to breastfeeding only. Drink good amount of water.

5 Ways to prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SID)

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
5 Ways to prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SID)

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SID) refers to the unexplained and sudden death of a seemingly hale and hearty baby. This condition tends to occur when the baby is asleep and that's why it's also known as crib death. Although the reason for the condition is still not known, many experts have attributed the cause of the condition to abnormal development in the parts of the baby's brain that oversees breathing and awakening from sleep. Nonetheless, there are ways that can prevent the problem from occurring and which are:

  • Always place your baby on the back to sleep - Sleeping on the back is the safest position that your baby should be in, whenever he or she sleeps. You shouldn't let your child sleep on the sides as he or she can roll onto the stomach, and may hamper the breathing process. You can place your baby on the stomach when he or she is awake.
  • Place your baby on a firm surface to sleep sans of any objects - It's best to place your baby on a firm mattress to sleep while avoiding thick and feather padding like a thick comforter. At the same time, objects like toys, stuffed animals or pillows should be removed from the crib as they may get in the way of your child's breathing by pressing on his or her face.
  • Make sure your baby doesn't become very hot - For keeping your baby warm during sleep, it's best to opt for sleep clothing or blanket made of light material so that it doesn't make him or her feel very hot. If using a blanket, it should be placed loosely over the baby and one should also remember to not cover the baby's head during sleep.
  • Use a pacifier - Research suggests that the use of the pacifier can reduce a baby's chance of dying from SIDS. This is because the pacifier helps in preventing the baby from rolling over onto his or her stomach during sleep. At the same time, it's also believed that the instrument helps in keeping the baby's tongue positioned in a manner that keeps his or her airways open.
  • Breastfeed your baby - Breastfeeding your baby for a minimum of 6 months can help in preventing the occurrence of SIDS. Several studies have revealed this beneficial aspect of breastfeeding.

My son is 22 days old and is pooping quite frequently these days. He poops every time he is being fed by his mother (sometimes during the feed as well). The excretion is mainly watery and small sprouts of poop (with gas). The poop is bright yellow in shade. He feeds good for 10 mins each time and approx 10 times a day. I am little worried by this condition. Is this normal?

Mother might be having problem of retracted nipples which the baby can't hold in his mouth. So help of a senior lady can help this by doing massage of the nipples. Always try to give breast feed directly through sucking otherwise milk secretions will be reduced gradually. --you can use a blunt forcef to hold the nipple and put in mouth of baby. --baby's are very smart. After feeding with bottle (which require no effort) they will avoid breast sucking as it requires effort. --always avoid feeding with bottle.
