BDS, CDE Endo-Prostho, CDE - Cast Partial & Complete Dentures

Hello, after root canal treatment, crown should be placed over that tooth. If not done, the filling will get dislodged. Visit the dentist and get a filling and crown done so that the tooth lasts longer.

Sir In my mouth 1 white spot is there, When ever I eat something it taste chill. Form childhood I have this problem. Sir please tell me what to do. Thank you Sir.

BDS, Master of Hospital Administration
Dentist, Patna
It sounds like Leukoplakia. Avoid hot and chilly foods. Visit your dentist and get proper diagnosis. If it is Leukoplakia you should be prescribed with Topical corticosteriod ointments like Amlexanox gel or kenacort gel or something like that. Please visit the dentist.

Either it is a gum issue because of food getting stuck or a tooth is getting a cavity. Either case you need to go to the dentist.

Is it possible to take painless gum scaling treatment using advanced laser treatment.

BDS, MDS - Pediatric Dentistry , Certificate Course in Conscious Sedation
Dentist, Hyderabad
Pain is very subjective - different people react to it differently. Having said that, a procedure such as scaling can vary from painless to mild sensitivity to severe pain depending on the condition of the gums and pain threshold of the individual. If your gums are already inflamed and there is pre-existing gingivitis, you can expect mild to moderate sensitivity during scaling (even with laser assisted scaling). This can easily minimized by using an anesthetic gel or cream which the dentist will take care of. For advanced gum disease, your dentist will give you an injectable anesthetic to make sure the procedure is not painful.

Everyday some blood coming from my teeth so what should I do for stop this blood?

BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
Few advice to stop bleeding gums-- - use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water to keep the area clean. Avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums.

I have gap between front two teeth. Can I do bonding? Will it be visible? Will it be permanent?

FDSRCS, MOrth RCS, MDS - Orthodontics, BDS
Dentist, Sonipat
Treatment depends upon amount of gap. Ideal treatment is braces. Bonding can be done but some times it may not look very good, may increase size of teeth.

Dentist, Thanjavur
For effective teeth whitening and preventing them from discoloration, munch on foods like apples, carrots, pears or celery after brushing, as they produce tooth-bathing saliva which whitens the teeth.

Can the teeth made aligned without using clip? Would that depend on how complex aligned it is! Please advice Thanks, Nazeem.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Kindly consult an orthodontist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations (Model study, Full mouth & profile x-ray) & clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need fixed / removable braces. Requirements may depends on the age, complaint, duration of the treatment & affordability. Cost of cosmetic dentistry (braces) varies with dentist. You may consult me in person.

Dear user. I can understand. Chewing Tobacco is addictive. It also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. Chewing can affect your mouth, throat, lungs, heart, stomach and brain in many ways. Cancer is one among the potential diseases chewing can cause. The best method is to leave it and sustain with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. Nicotine chewing gums too help as an alternative. But still you will need will power. You may consult a physician or deaddiction therapist or a rehabilitation facility for further advice. You can also opt for online deaddiction therapy. Take care.

I have hypersalivation problem from two years. I feel irritated as my tongue feels rough. Please tell me some solution.

MDS Prosthodontics
Dentist, Ranchi
Hypersalivation and rough tongue seems inter-related in your case. You might have fungal infection on your tongue. Take medicine for that and do regular cleaning of your tongue alongwith teeth.

How to remove tobacco and pan masala spot from my teeth, my teeth get yellowish. I have pain in some tooth, before chewing pan masala my mouth was opened fully, but this time closing why? Can I get fully open mouth as like before? Is it painful treatment?

BDS
Dentist, Vijayawada
This condition is called as osmf. You have to immediately stop the habit of pan masala chewing. If the habit continues, the condition worsens and it is very difficult to get your mouth opened. There r few techniques like certain injections or surgery to open the mouth only with limited success rates. So stopping the habit is of tremendous importance.

I'm 22 year old male. Every morning saliva forms in my mouth unusually as soon as I realize that I'm awake. Even I spit it once, it forms again and this thing repeats again and again until I brush in the morning. This thing also happens before sleep at night many times where I don't brush and slowly fall asleep with continuously spitting the saliva. This thing is happening to me for 7 months from now but never happened before. What should I do?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Hypersalivation also called ptyalism is excessive production of saliva. It has also been defined as increased amount of saliva in the mouth, which may also be caused by decreased clearance of saliva.Hypersalivation can contribute to drooling if there is an inability to keep the mouth closed or in difficulty in swallowing the excess saliva (dysphagia). Reasons for Hypersalivation are---------- 1.Gastroesophageal reflux disease, in such cases specifically called a water brash, and is characterized by a sour fluid or almost tasteless saliva in the mouth. 2.Excessive starch intake 3.Mouth ulcers. 4.Oral infections 5.Liver Problems 6.Medicines----certain medicines initiate salivation if you are presently on medicines for any problem. Treatment of your problem can be done by treating the underlioned factor causing salivation.

Under denture teeth there are cuts due to which problem in chewing food and pain in mouth. Any Antibiotic or medicine to recoup the cuts. Taken pain killer but to no vain.

MD - Homeopathy, BHMS
Homeopath, Vadodara
If it is because of dentures... then you may have to adjust that... as until the cause is not removed the effect will persist... Antibioics are for infection and have no role in healing if it is Non infectious...you may try taking multivitamin and multimineral tablet for fast healing.. And also Arnica homoepathic medicine.

Dental Health in Pregnancy

BDS
Dentist, Gurgaon
Dental Health in Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a transformation phase in itself -it brings with it changes to almost all body systems. The oral tissues and the teeth are also affected significantly. Extra precaution is required to maintain regular oral health and avoid severe decay and/or gum disease. If not avoided, the dental infections can cause severe systemic infections and require strong antibiotics, x-rays, minor surgeries, and root canal therapy which may not be safe during pregnancy.

Higher levels of estrogen during pregnancy in the blood lead to a lot of visible changes in the oral cavity - higher incidence of tooth decay, gingival and periodontal inflammation, and even minor benign tumours in some cases. The notorious morning sickness plays havoc with the person's oral hygiene habits, thereby further complicating the situation.

Prior to pregnancy: A pre-pregnancy dental check-up to look for gum health and decay would go a long way in a healthy pregnancy, from the dental point of view at least. A thorough scaling and screening for cavities done before pregnancy can help avoid dental visits during the term, other than for routine checkup.

Pregnancy: If that pre-pregnancy visit could not happen, then visiting your dentist should be one of the first things to do as soon as you have confirmed your pregnancy. At this stage, no dental treatment can be done. Any elective procedures (cosmetic, etc.) will have to be done only after delivery. If the dentist identifies no cause for worry, that is great news. However, if there are any causes for concern, like a decay, the non-invasive treatment should be done at the earliest. When you are pregnant, note the following from a dental point of view:

  1. Oninvasive treatments like minor fillings can be done
  2. Regular scaling and polishing is not a problem
  3. Let the dentist know about all the medications you are taking
  4. Visit the dentist every 3 to 4 months for a regular check-up
  5. Follow good oral hygiene practices including, brushing, rinsing, and flossing
  6. Switch to a bland toothpaste in case of severe morning sickness
  7. Watch your diet - the teeth forming in the fetus require nutrition through you, so ensure adequate intake of minerals like calcium and potassium
  8. Avoid sweets and sticky/chewy foods that can lead to plaque formation

Though dental procedures can be done during the 4th to 6th month, they are best avoided, which can be done with better planning and some minimal care.

After delivery: After the delivery of the baby, please visit your dentist to ensure you have again ensured there is no emergent dental condition requiring attention. Resume your regular dental care after delivery.
With a little planning and extra care, dental health can be managed nicely during pregnancy with minimal to no pain. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dentist.
