Hemiplegia is the term used to denote a condition wherein one half of the body gets completely paralysed. An injury to either side of the brain can cause hemiplegia on that particular side, leaving it completely paralysed. A stroke can also result in this condition. Other causes of hemiplegia include health conditions like diabetes, inflammation of the blood vessels, migraine syndrome, etc. A person suffering from hemiplegia has difficulty in walking and loses balance as he tries to walk. It can cause difficulty in swallowing, vision and speech problems, numbness in one half of the body, loss of bladder and bowel control, etc. The memory may become poor and the affected person suffers from depression. Homeopathic treatment for hemiplegia uses natural medicines that are very beneficial in treating the symptoms in the patient. These remedies do not cause any side-effects and are safe for long term use. there are about hundreds of remedy for hemiplagia. detailed history taking followed by video conferencing will help me to select a remedy for you...

My son is 26 years old. His brain was declined and was operated at Hospital before 4 years. After operation he is unable to walk without support. He is doing physiotherapy everyday. Still he has not recovered. What should I do? Is second operation required? As per doctors consulted, not to go for second operation as it is not assured that he will start walking.

MD - Psychiatry, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Patna
I understand your concern. I can imagine how painful it is to see somebody so close suffering with such condition. Neurological illness like brain pathology even after brain surgery is very slow to recover. Although the current situation appears to be not good. It will improve gradually. Brain has a very slow recovery and regeneration rate. It may take many months to years to get the desired function of limbs. I wish your son a better health.

Based on the location and extent of tumor, the recovery period various. Nobody can guarantee the exact time for recovery and to what extent the recovery might occur. Many patients may have to live with and accept residual weakness.

My father met an accident a week ago he fell from bike .and get injured he had injury in head. After seeing c.t scan doctor said there is little clotting in left frontal lobe. But my father acts very strange he doesn't recognize us generally .he gets very aggressive sometime. Especially when he is not allowed to do something. Let me mention the c.t scan report. It was. Haemorrhagic contusion in left frontal lobe everything else is normal.

Fellowship in Endoscopic Neurosurgery , M.Ch - Neuro Surgery, MS - General Surgery, MBBS
Neurosurgeon, Lucknow
Left frontal lobe is the part responsible for personality and social behaviour. Injury to this part causes these symptoms. Most of this would recover with time. Sometimes psychiatric medicines need to be given for some time. Its nothing serious. I wish him speedy recovery.

I am suffering from epilepsy from last 15 and taking medication for the same, as I didn't had any attack since from last 3 years so I was been advised to reduce one pill i. E. Epilan immediately after reducing the pill I had an attack kindly advice what to do now?

DM - Neurology
Neurologist, Hyderabad
If you are getting repeated seizure attack on reducing the pills, it suggests that you may need this medication for few more days. If want to reduce the dose reduce it very slowly gradually tappering of the dose of medicine. Get an eeg done to see whether it showing some epipesy activity or not. If repeat eeg shows abnormal discharges you will definitely need this medicine for more time period.

Understanding Autism.

Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder that affects 1-2 people out of every 1,000 people worldwide. It is a wide spectrum disorder, so no two people with autism will have the exact same symptoms. There are those who function easily, those who are impaired and struggle to live normally and then there are others in between. Difficulties in communicating, social impairment and repetitive patterns of behaviour are some of the major symptoms that characterise autism and the related autism spectrum disorders (ASD).

Read the following articles to gain a better understanding of this condition:

Diagnosing Autism

In order to create awareness and combat this problem, early diagnosis and social acceptance is necessary. Here's a brief on what we can do to recognise autism.

Decoding the Symptoms of Autism

Although there is no scientific cure for autism, its symptoms can be worked upon with the help of a communication or behavioural therapist.

Treatments for Autism

In this article, we chalk out the main treatments and therapies for curing autism in children and adolescents.

In conclusion, it’s important to treat these conditions not as disorders but to accept them as differences. Accept them in the same way we accept people of all races. These conditions are not caused by any disease or injury but because of genetics andenvironmental factors. Science suggests that neurological diversity has helped humans throughout their evolution to survive in the environment. It’s possible that those affected might just come up with solutions for problems that might escape those with normal brain wiring. Not because they’re necessarily smarter, or better, but because they think differently.  So it’s necessary to accept, respect and accommodate those with such conditions.  To care, not repair is the outlook we should have for the betterment of mankind.

What are preventive measures for Parkinson's disease in old age? What are the measures to keep mental faculties sharp? What contribution a diet variation makes to keep the intellect in fine shape, particularly in old age?

What are preventive measures for Parkinson's disease in old age? What are the measures to keep mental faculties sharp...
Healthy balanced diet consisting of green leafy vegetables and fish if possible are important. Just as physical exercise improves muscles, mental exercise increases what is known as cognitive reserve and protective against dementia. So after retirement or so, continue to actively engage in activities that utilize intelligence. Similarly, do skilled physical activity depending upon what you know, eg, playing piano, writing, drawing etc.
