My son is 9 years old. He has a bed wetting problem almost since birth. Otherwise he is fit and healthy. Recently we did the urine culture test but it is negative. We also did sonography and mcu test and both test reports are normal. What shall we do?

Pediatrician, Pune
Don't make him feel bad about his passage of urine, he can strengthen his urinary sphincter by trying to control his urine during day time, avoid drinking of water after 7 pm, make him pass urine before going to bed, reward him for his dry nights.

After every feed burp your baby. Babies may puke out extra milk after every feed which is like curd. But see if baby is gaining weight. If gaining weight normally then nothing to worry.

She is suffering from a disorder of convulsions. So get her eeg (electro encephalogram) done and consult either pediatrician or neurologist for further managemnt. Care should be taken to avoid such attacks while near any machines, riding cycle on main roads, swimming pool which may be life threatening.

Start giving him Naturamore Children's Powder 1 spoon daily in morning and evening for 1 month. This will definitely give you results. As the Powder is just a supplement containing proteins, vitamins, minerals and all. You will get result 110%. Just inform me if you are not getting the powder anywhere. Take care. :)

His birth weight is 3.25. And he is crying in night daily. My pediatrician said its stomach pain and gave him colimex. Shall I give him when he is crying more.

You have not mentioned age. If child has colic pain then colimex will help. Sudden excessive cry in healthy child in evening and between to 3 wk to 6mo. Then it is likely to be colic. But make sure there is no other disease or illness. Give medicine as adv, by doctor.

My brother aged of 9 years his palms were very rough. Due to heat in body, these cracks on his two palm wouldn't able to do anything else. He couldn't able to eat with is hand. Its very painful to him. He is using Safi medicine and applying boroline. please can you give any more suggestion regarding this.

MD - Homeopathy
Pediatrician, Mumbai
Tell him to apply a very good moiturising cream 2-4 times daily and overnight also. This will keep his skin soft. Use a mild handwash and after every handwash always apply moiturizer on dry palms and increase your water intake and amount of citrus fruits in your diet to get that vitamin c which is good for skin.

If sleepwalking is caused by underlying medical conditions, such as gastroesophageal reflux, obstructive sleep apnea, seizures, periodic leg movements, or restless legs syndrome, sleepwalking episodes should stop once the underlying medical condition is treated.

Most of the preterm babies loose 15% body weight and starts regain after 15 day. Expected wt gain is 20- 30 gms on dialy basis. What your feeding now is good. Instead of bottle feed, start spoon feeds. Look for dilution of milk, 1 scoop for every 30 ml of water. Do not stop breast milk.

Causes and Symptoms of Uterine Fibroids

Fellowship In Minimal Access Surgery, MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Hyderabad
Causes and Symptoms of Uterine Fibroids

Uterine fibroids are referred to as benign, abnormal growths which tend to develop in the uterine walls of a woman. The size of such growths can range from a few centimeters to even excess of a few inches. As such, they can cause the uterus to increase to the size of a five month pregnancy. Although, the symptoms of fibroids are not always apparent, they often cause heavy bleeding and pain in women. A recent research concluded that around 60 to 75 percent women contract such fibroids by the age of 50, at least once in their life.

Depending on the site of formation, uterine fibroids are distinguished into different types. Intramural fibroids in the lining of the uterus and subserosal fibroids which develop outside the uterus are the most commonly observed fibroids.

What causes Uterine Fibroids?
Although, the exact reason for the formation of fibroids are obscure, medical professionals have determined certain factors that may affect their formation. Some of them are:
1) Hormones: Progesterone and estrogen, produced by the ovaries regenerate the uterine lining during each menstrual cycle and trigger the growth of fibroids.
2) Family history: If you have had a family history of uterine fibroids, then you're likely to develop the condition yourself as well.
3) Pregnancy: The production of progesterone and estrogen increases during pregnancy which increases the likelihood of fibroids.

What are the signs of the condition?
Depending on the location and size of the tumors, symptoms of such fibroids include:
1) Heavy bleeding and blood clots during periods
2) Pain in the pelvis
3) Frequent menstrual cramps
4) Pressure and pain in the lower abdomen
5) Swelling in the abdomen
6) Pain while intercourse

What is the procedure of the treatment?
Ultrasound and pelvic MRI are common diagnostic procedures to check for uterine fibroids. After diagnosis, depending on your age, size of the fibroid and your comprehensive health, the doctor would prescribe you with appropriate medications. Only after medications prove futile, doctors opt for minimally invasive surgeries. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

Hi, my son is 1 year and 1 month. Till 1 year he had food with out any problem. But last 10days he refused to eat some types of food like rice. He s earing rava upma and wheat bread in a good amount. What food I can give it to him. Is it good to eat wheat breads. I m still feeding my milk during night.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
This change in diet may not be significant. Children are moody also. He can eat any thing. Wheat bread is also ok. But try to add green leafy vegetables to his diet. He should also be encouraged to eat seasonal fruits and seasonal vegetables. This will improve his body metabolism and increase appetite. He should also be given pulses. If he takes non-veg, fish and egg may be added. Breast feeds can be continued.
